  1. College Soccer news released their top 150 list also: http://collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page610.htm Trapp at 5, Yedlin at 12, Gallego at 21, Culbertson at 41 and Chiu at 100. Looks like UNC, Wake and Indiana also have some good classes coming on. And where the heck did Furman come from from? 17,18,20,41,98 and 148. Wow. Wow! Maybe Zips will rebound better than we thought. Furman: Looks like the Purple Paladins are back!
  2. +10 Also: There is a long standing, if not widely known, soccer tradition @ Akron. The roots are as deep here as any place in America. Ask not how did this happen; rather ask what took so long?
  3. I'm a hardcore fan and I like ROOligans. Well don't worry, it's still in the chase. And we have weeded out the ones that no one is crazy about and narrowed it to five names. I'm going to do an official poll really soon. And that will decide it...period! lol Well, since it's obvious not everyone is going to agree with/like/tolerate the name, you might as well come up with something that everyone hates!!!! lol!
  4. I'm a hardcore fan and I like ROOligans. Really! Please recount your first Zips soccer match in detail.
  5. Measure twice seventy times; cut once! It is important to get this right. We have until ~ July. Right?
  6. Yes. Even though Porter signed a 10 year extension, the program will certainly exist well beyond his stellar tenure. Name cannot be officially Porter’s - anything. At this point, I am for any name that does not include ROOligans.
  7. Wow! This development is potentially very significant for USMNT as Zakuani would almost certainly take somebody’s starting spot.
  8. Interesting, to say the least. Since both Mattocks and Saad were not offfered GA contracts, did this mean MLS thought them inferior? Both Saad and Mattocks were considered unproven commodities by the MLS, and not just because they were freshman. Kitchen was also a freshman, but one with a sizable backlog of video with the national team. Generation Adidas is only available to can’t miss prospects, and really the type of deal no one should ever turn down. Should Mattocks clock another productive year @ Akron, he may go GA as well. Mattocks made the right decision to return to Akron. What Saad is attempting is dicey. I still have very high hopes for Soony Saad as a member of the USMNT. I hereby withdraw my odious prediction of a 2011 Wolverines’ championship.
  9. Ampaipitakwong is easy to pronounce; it only looks intimidating. However, the San Jose announcer could have a mouthful with Ampaipitakwong to Wondolowski. Now that is funny!
  10. Coming to theatres near you: Disney ROOligans (in 3-D). Starring the voices of Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus. Fun for the whole family!
  11. TB I just caught the replay of the match on ESPN3.com. Shameful that ESPN did not carry a live broadcast on an otherwise slow TV sports night anyway. Our boy acquitted himself very well. He is maturing rapidly and will press for a spot on the full national side. I dare say that had Teal been the player in 2009 he now is, Akron would have scored a goal vs. Virginia in the CC final. At any rate, we should all be extremely proud of how TB represents Akron. Unfortunately for Teal Bunbury, he and Jozy Altidore play the same position and are essentially the same type of player. Juan Agudelo is more of a compliment to Altidore. Therefore, I do not see a forward line consisting of Altidore and Bunbury ever occurring in a FIFA qualifying match. Teal will likely need to beat out Altidore in order to start. This is possible.
  12. So, you agree that Holmes already has a starting job. I thought all season that Speas showed more quality than Caldwell. I could never understand how Porter played Caldwell over Speas. And then, God bless him, Scotty had one of the best post seasons in Zips history. Go figure! Ontiveros will definitely push for time. I also think Genovese will somehow push for time. Poor Richard Diaz may surface. Who knows. Tulloch? Another thing is that Trapp may very well play the exact same role as Kitchen. I have to see him practice. Good shtuff from you, Jacob M.
  13. This is the thread I want to keep alive. What is your preliminary 2011 starting lineup?
  14. The only reason I even bothered to reply to such an inane topic was that the Exchange Street Elite really caught my eye. I absolutely love it.; I wish I had thought of it. T-shirts will read Exchange Street Elite, political wing of the AKR. We can easily get endorsement from AKR. Naturally, actual hooliganism is not our intention here as that would require far too much commitment, not to mention the sociopathic behavior. Ok, so I may have the sociopathic behavior. No one is perfect! Put a poll out there.
  15. Who has seen the movie Green Street Hooligans? Anyone? That group called themselves the Green Street Elite. True (English) hooligans do not refer to themselves as such. The group name is usually something a bit more obscure (and menacing).
  16. Seriously? You guys really prefer ROOligans to Exchange Street Elite? ROOligans sounds way too warm and cuddly for this.
  17. Exchange Street Elite. I like the hooligan conotation. BW3 is my usual tail gating stop as it it within walking distance of LJF.
  18. Exchange Street Elite, the political wing of the AKR. LJF should be the Outback. You know. out back?
  19. Trapp is definitely pick of the litter. Shocking to see so many kids on this list from NEO. Only one of those, Murrow from Strongsville, coming to Zips. Has Akron EVER got a kid from St. Ignatius?
  20. Is he left footed? Notice that Porter prefers the left footed back on the right side and vice versa. The formation is tactically aggressive with the backs building runs toward the middle for a shot rather than running to the touch for the cross. To that point, I hope Yedlin has a good left. Wing MFs are more for crossing ala Mikey Nanchoff on the left.
  21. Welcome Martin. I never much liked DCU, but I suppose I will follow them some now. Watch how many punts and goal kicks Kitchen will get his head on! Dude will stick his head in a blender for the ball. Oh yeah, say one more thing about taking our coach, and a sizable posse from NEO will hunt you down. Clear?
