pouring more concrete this a.m. --- home side lower stands...and UNT looking at a new stadium too....North Texas stadium fee to go on student ballot 09/25/2008 8:52 AMThe representatives have spoken and now it's the public's turn. In this case, the public is the student body at North Texas. When the annual elections are held there October 13-17, the students will vote on whether to level a $10 per semester credit hour fee. The money gathered would go towards the estimated $60 million tab for a new football stadium. The Student Senate vote wasn't closer: 29-5 (with one abstemption) in favor of sending the issue to the ballot. The fee would stay in place after the stadium is paid off to help fund the athletic program in the future. The Mean Green currently play at 57-year old Fouts Field. “I am excited that the student government association will take it to the student body and let them decide,” UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said. “I can’t say how important this project is overall to the university. This takes us one step closer to where we need to be.”In addition to the funds raised by the fee, UNT would have to raise private money as well, an amount that Villarreal estimated would be around $40 million. The project would be bonded out, with payoff going over a 30-year period. The stadium would be built near the school's basketball home, the Mean Green Athletic Center. It would take roughly two years to build, meaning it would probably not be ready until the 2011 season.

Rutgers struggling to get financing needed for stadium LinkMany people thought Rutgers' meteoric rise to the upper echelon of college football would make requests for renovations to the football stadium an easy end run.Guess again.Despite the fact New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine personally kicked in $1 million, the school is far short of the $30 million it is looking for to make desired changes to Rutgers Stadium. The country will get a look at the place tonight when Rutgers hosts North Carolina in a game televised by ESPN.Scarlet Knights supporters had donated or pledged only an additional $92,962 as of Sept. 3The situation is dire enough that the school's Board of Governors held a four-hour closed-door meeting on the issue Wednesday. When it was over, the Governors had nothing to say to reporters. The silence spoke volumes about the concern over the issue.

Potential Butt in seats issue for the Info??? Anybody know what the seat width at Info is going to be???"A big problem for Nebraska fans 09/01/2008 9:21 AMWell, this might be one reason some fans like to sit in suites. They have room to move around. It seems the bleachers are getting a bit tight these days. This discovery was recently made at Lincoln's Memorial Stadium. There are several Nebraska season ticket holders who sit on bleacher seats at the old stadium. As it turns out, those seats aren't as comfortable as they used to be. The material is the same but the people sitting there are ... well ... bigger.According to the Trust For National Health, which released a survey on the subject last week, the average American man's hips measured 17.2 inches in 2000, the last year statistics were available. That's 1.3 inches bigger than in 1962, when Memorial Stadium was opened. The average woman's hips spanned 19.7 inches, 2.6 inches larger than four decades before.Since the bleachers were designed with seats to be 18 inches apart, you can see the problem. It's getting a little tight in the seats.Katie McMichael, a longtime season ticket older in the stadium's West End (which is totally bleachered), describes it this way: "You're hot, and you're crowded," she said. "It's just plain uncomfortable."School officials have tried to work with the big issue. They installed fiberglass covers on the steel bleachers. That may be better to sit on but it doesn't do much for the big picture: Studies show Nebraskans are among the biggest people in the country. A study suggests the rows would have to be six feet longer than they were originally constructed to get two inches of room between each person. As it turns out, Nebraskans aren't the only ones struggling with this weighty issue. At the University of Mississippi, seats are alloted at 18 inches apart. That's better than Nebraska but still a little snug. That's because Mississippi is considered to be, on average, to be among the biggest people in the country. Folsom Field in Colorado also goes the 18-inch route but this is considered our leanest state. Life is better there.Otrher schools don't want to talk about this issue. At the University of Michigan, school officials refuse to discuss the width of the Big House but some folks have measured the seats at 17 inches. All the stadiums mentioned here are older venues so any significant changes in the bleachers are highly unlikely. McMichael probably spoke for all season ticket holders of the schools when she said, "Heck, if it were standing room only, we'd still go," she said. "

http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/27007644.html"Warner Mendenhall, attorney for Joe and Mona Nemer, said he was happy to take his case to mediation.''We've had some productive discussions lately with the university on how this could be resolved,'' he said. ''Mediation could be very helpful to this process.''UA spokesman Ken Torisky declined to comment. The university wants the couples' properties to build a 450-bed residence hall next to a stadium already under construction.Neither couple contested the university's need for the land, only the price that was to be paid."

For the record, YSU-Akron already have a trophy to play for,...The Steel-Tire Trophy.. And the Penguins won it more than we did...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_TireABJ Story 80's"NO TROPHY NEEDED TO SPUR PENGUINSSource: Roland Queen, Beacon Journal staff writerGerry Faust may not attach special significance to the Steel-Tire Trophy, but Jim Tressel certainly does. The trophy has been the symbol of victory in the football series between the Faust's University of Akron Zips and Tressel's Youngstown State Penguins for the past 13 years. For the past two years the trophy has been the property of Tressel and the Penguins. Youngstown leads the overall series 14-12-1. I had a big long post ready for you.. but it isn't worth it if I have to explain the difference between a home game vs a mega-major and a road game at UNC Greensboro.Am I alone on this???For the record, your previous post started the higher expectations:"Playing West Virginia this year at home might happen. Due to unforeseen circumstances a team that the Zips scheduled for a home-n-home series was suppose to play in Akron this year. They want out of the contract. Apparently they are willing to pay a substantial penalty and give us a home game next season. They will not get a home game per the penalties in the contract. This leaves an open home date that was suppose to have been filled. This team is NOT any one I have previously mentioned. The Zips may have to buy a home game. Problem is that most schools have already filled their schedule. There is a silver cloud will a black lining hanging near by. A high major-major is willing come to the JAR this year as part of a home-n-home deal. Problem is that the Akron coaching staff view this as two loses. They are probably right considering the high major that made the offer. Perhaps the follow up return game could be put off until 2010-11 season. The Zips should be competitive with anyone then.Forget PITT. They will not play Akron in the foreseeable future. Certainly not as long as rubber band legs Jamie Dixon is the head coach. "

So let me summarizeThe big news is we said "No" to a home game with some big names to play a road game at UNC Greensboro??? (UNC Greensboro Spartans are in the Southern Conference with Appy State, Chattanooga, Elon, W Carolina, Davidson, Ga Southern, Charleston, Wofford, Furman and Citadel. Finished 19-12 third in SoCon North)We would have taken the games if we were more experienced? WTF? Sorry but you take em when you can get em.....To be the best you gotta beat the best. To beat the best you gotta play the best (a la Gonzaga) and we turned down home games??? What are we afraid of???sheesh....Who were the names????Oh and the EKU tourney? Didn't we beat Mississippi State in San Juan a few years back (83-72 2005)? Then fell to Clemson???

http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=796874"Big Ten: League members have nine games against I-AA schools, with all but Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue partaking. Big Ten teams are playing just 13 non-conference games against "Big Six" schools – the lowest total among all the conferences. Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin are playing zero non-conference games against "Big Six" programs. Of note: Big Ten teams are playing 13 games against MAC schools, with each league team except Iowa playing one and Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota playing two each. Indiana also is one of the four schools nationally with eight home games this season. ""Mid-American: There are eight games against I-AA opponents. But the MAC can crow about its 28 games against "Big Six" programs, the most of any league (13 of those are against Big Ten schools). Four of those 28 will be on MAC campuses – at Akron, Bowling Green, Miami and Temple. But eight of the 13 league members have just five home games: Akron, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Can't State, Ohio University, Temple and Western Michigan. "

I believe when we joined the Association of Mid Continent Universities (AMCU) it was known as the Mid Continent or Mid-Con... It is now The Summit League... We know CFN sucks.. but here it is:"The overall talent level needed an upgrade, so the coaching staff found former Miami Hurricane Andrew Johnson to help the running game, former West Virginia Mountaineer Jeremy Bruce to fill a receiver slot, and former Iowa Hawkeye Ryan Bain to anchor the defensive line. One thing was proven last year, the coaching staff can change things around, taking the woeful special teams and making them great. Now they have to show they can improve an offense that was among the worst in the MAC, and help out a defense that gave up too many points in bunches. The coaching is solid, the tradition is good, and the recruiting has been decent. Now it's time to see if it can all come together to form one of the league's surprise teams.""The season will be a success if ... the Zips come up with a winning season. Getting over the .500 mark used to be a given around Akron, but after two straight losing seasons, the team has to start winning the close games and it has to start beating the mediocre."http://cfn.scout.com/2/745595.html

More to consider:http://www.footballstadiumdigest.com/news/...?article_id=129Price to watch Gopher football skyrocketing 05/24/2008 7:56 AMIt's an age-old story. The local college gets a new facility -- in this case, the University of Minnesota taking their football games to TCF Bank Stadium next year-- and ticket prices rise accordingly. But there's a twist here that makes this story a little unusual. There are several season ticket holders who are now going on their third stadium in 28 years. (There are 535 season ticket accounts that go back more than 40 years.)And these people have suffered through a lot. They were forced to move their seats from the beloved on-campus Memorial Stadium to the hideous (although made for football) Metrodome downtown. They have stuck it out through several losing seasons (Minnesota was 1-11 last year and hasn't been to a Rose Bowl since 1962 -- the longest current drought in the Big Ten). So, they are understandably unhappy when the school told them recently their seats in the new place will depend on a points system based on how much money they contributed towards the new stadium. It may be standard practice in the college stadium biz but it's not going well with everybody in Minneapolis. There are details about the plan and some folks reaction to it in the Star Tribune's article on it here. http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/..._refer=Homepage
