Bre Ford with a nice stop

Rossi sighting

Merely looking for players to make plays at this point. Just before the last TD TRUE FRESHMEN and WALKON Gary Ransom (#47) made a really nice stop.

Bad use of time outs by Fickell, or Finkel. Good to see other first time coaches making dumb mistakes. Too bad we can't get a receiver open to make him pay, although 15 seems like he doesn't need to be open to come down with the ball. I'll try to be positive...our special teams look better this year. So far my favorite comment of the game, "since all scoring plays are reviewed in the NFL, Tressel won't have much to do on Sundays" I think a big tactical error to start the game was not letting Moore throw it a little after we got the initial 1st down on the opening drive. Field position sucked the rest of the 1st half. I thought Meriwether possibly had the 1st down on the play that was reviewed and I thought the Zips DEFINITELY held on 4th down before the 2nd TD. I don't have Frenchy on, but is Rossi hurt? I don't recall a FB in a formation even ONCE in the 1st half.

I'll take some heat for this. My plans for the day took a turn. I apologize.

Well done! The Goodyear Blimp is flying immediately over my house en route to C-Bus as I type this. I signaled for it to take some nice shots of your tailgate setup Go Zips!!!

The 10 Ten Reasons Why UA Might Give OSU a Game

They're not so fond of this list over here. -
+1 Everyone knows BWags was ready when he was in pre-school

Regarding Temple, the media is focusing on Bernard Pierce coming back strongly from his injuries. But in my view, it's this guy who really concerns me. He could very well solve the Owls main problem over the last few years. I was hoping the coaching transition might trip Temple up some. But early indications are just the opposite. It's OK. I want the MAC to be as good as it can be, and I want the Zips to be a part of that.

We had a solid kicker for about two consecutive decades. Then Igor mentally lost it...and we've been screwed ever since. I don't see how we scholarship a freshman kicker, then he gets beat-out by a walk-on Junior? I really hope our place-kicking isn't the Chinese Firedrill it's been for the past 3 seasons...but I have a feeling it will drive me to insanity yet again. The one thing I noticed during the open practice was the trajectory of Marchese's placekicks versus the others. His ball doesn't necessarily go the farthest, but it gets in the air more quickly on a steeper angle of climb. Hopefully this mean no more of those FG attempts that go straight into both lines.

Good point. I watched some of this game on CBS College Sports. Kelly Pagel (former Brown QB Mike Pagel's son) is now the QB at UMass after transferring from BG. UMass held on to win 24-16, but they were not particularly impressive. The CAA might be down a little this year based on early results. In other MAC game updates, the 58-22 score held up in the UT win over UNH. BG eventually defeated Idaho on the road 32-15.

The 10 Ten Reasons Why UA Might Give OSU a Game

Very good, Doc! I especially like the inside information from the ticket rep. -
The MAC is getting off to a fine start in 2011, with particularly strong showings against normally tough CAA squads. Currently the scores are as follows: Toledo 58 New Hampshire 22 8:00 left in 4th Temple 42 Villanova 7 Final Central Michigan 21 South Carlolina St 6 Final Bowling Green 27 Idaho 7 11:10 left in 2nd Next week could very well be just as much of a challenge as this week. Edit: Future foe FIU is rolling at home over North Texas 41-14 in the 4th

The 10 Ten Reasons Why UA Might Give OSU a Game

You're sort of a one issue candidate, aren't you? -
In spite of what this guy says, there is never a ZERO percent chance for an upset. Here are my top 10 reasons why this game could easily be very competitive: 10) The Zips are the only team currently in the MAC to have ever defeated the red & silver. 9) The red & silver could very well be mad. I'm not a big believer in anger being such a positive emotion in sports. I think it leads to more of a lack of focus and concentration than anything else. 8) No matter what the OSU coaches say, there is no way the players will be taking an in-state team that was 1-11 last year very seriously. 7) Fickell was once an assistant for O-wins. 6) OSU will be "looking ahead" to Toledo. 5) BWags is in year two of the same 4-3 system. He'll be even better than in his first two years. 4) Because of all the suspensions, UA's depth will actually look reasonably close to that of OSU. 3) The Lone Ranger doesn't lose very often. 2) By all accounts, it looks like Fickell will play it rather close to the vest (couldn't resist). This plays into the strength of the UA defense. It's easy to forget that the Zip run defense was actually pretty decent last year (#76 in FBS). They will be even better this year. 1) No matter how hard the red & silver try to ignore the distractions, the almost weekly reports of new problems has made this nearly impossible. The Zips seem to be pretty confident and relaxed for a team supposedly heading into the mouth of a lion. I really like that. Go Zips!!!!!

Story This might make them "madder" If the Zips can execute and not make big mistakes, this game is going to be a WHOLE lot more competetive than anyone could imagine.

USA Today picks it OSU 28 UA 7.

Clayton Moore article from Cbus Dispatch

Reading his story from high school reminds me of the story of Stefan Georgevic from Ampipe High school. He disagreed with the coach and got labeled a black sheep. My dad grew up in Ambridge, PA, so I always got a kick out of that. But I'm REALLY gonna be pissed if CM8 is only 5'7" I wondered if anyone would catch that. Old movie and I know I spelled names wrong. The yard trashing scene is classic -

I think this is awesome. All of the complianing about not having a place to root and here it is offered up on our board and it isn't met with an enthusiastic response? This is a heck of a good test case. Everybody who is interested ought to show up to show that we can be an actual fan base. Of course since I'd have to drive six hours to get there, this is pretty much just rhetoric from me. But if I was there I would absolutely go. I have to agree with MDZip here. Of course I won't be particularly happy if (when) the blue & gold patrons are outnumbered by the red & silver, but I can't expect the guy to turn people away from his business. He is apparently doing everything under his control to make it a better Zip experience. That's all I can reasonably request. My wife and I will be there screaming for every UA first down and every sign of hope.. Let's see what happens. Go Zips!!!

Name Your Top "Zips vs. BCS Opponent" Moments
johnnyzip84 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Now that we get to list FOUR, here is one I haven't thought of in quite a while. A couple of weeks after the Zips threw the scare into Va Tech at the Bowl, UA scored a TD in Champaign just before the half to pull within 10-7 of the Illini. Who scored the TD for the Zips? None other than Jason Taylor, who played a little TE in certain situations during the 1996 season. Alas, the the 2nd half was totally different with the final score 38-7. But it made for an exciting 1st half and halftime. -
Sounds like it's the Barley House. I'm willing to give it a shot

They did just to make the NY Times look bad. You know how those Texans operate! I think you're on to something!
