  1. Good pickup! He must have been using last year's template and forgot all about them. Of course, this year if you neglect to mention TEs, you're neglecting to mention 8-9% of the team
  2. Maybe someone is editing the page as we type!!! If so, they're on break Richard Hall was basically running with the 1st team offense at TE during the scrimmage. What about him? They're also way behind on up-dating the profiles for each player. This could be slowing down the rest of the roster update. I am missing the media guide as much as anything. Surely they're having one made for the actual media, aren't they? Now I'll quit calling you all Shirley.
  3. My mistake....I only caught the last 30 minutes or so on-line. Thanks for the "in person" report!
  4. NOT REALLY HE DOES NOT DROP FOOTBALL TO BIG TO STRONG AND WHEN SECONDARY APPROCHES BIG BIG STIFF ARM Welcome aboard, moe! I like what I've seen out of Jawon on film. I was hoping he'd get the ball some in the scrimmage on the 21st. Do you think he'll be redshirted this year?
  5. I wouldnt say that. We've come to expect a certain level of excellence and success from our soccer team that a loss is a disappointment. It doesn't mean we expect them to be perfect, but we expect them to be damn near close to it. Still, I wouldn't read much into this loss. I want to say that this was just a fine-tuning match that Coach Porter used to try a few things when the consequences weren't as large. Id also suspect he put in some of the younger guys to get them some playing time, but can anyone confirm this? Just a thought. Both sides were substituting pretty freely when I was watching. The NCAA allows more of this in the exhibition games. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think Nanchoff played either. I'm sure they'd have rather won the game regardless, but sometimes you run into a hot keeper and this was clearly one of those times. If they get a couple of results next weekend, nobody will give this exhibition game a 2nd thought. I mostly in agreement with Zach in that we shouldn't expect the same results this year. It's all about the schedule. This year's team could be improved and still wind up with some losses and/or ties. The key will be avoid the "shock loss/tie" that could put a major dent in their seeding come tourney time. If they can avoid that, I like their chances.
  6. Here is Rasor's outlook on the 2010 season. I'm not sure if Mike realizes Odefin and Dawson are no longer with the team (unless they returned recently)
  7. I talked to the Ohio Brewing Company folks tonight, so I have a few updates. First, the brewery on Selle St is JUST ABOUT ready to come on line. I think it has more to do with state inspections, etc. than anything else. Now here is the interesting news. The Rockne's on Hudson Drive (just off of Route 8) in Cuyahoga Falls is soon to become the "featured bar" for OBC beer. I was there tonight and had some Cardinal Ale, Steel Valley Stout and Alternative Amber. They (Rockne's) are going to change their name to "OBC at Rockne's" (presumably that location only), and they will always have 5 or 6 OBC beers available on tap. And get this! OBC beer will soon (September, I was told) be available in bottles (6 pack) at select Acmes, Giant Eagles, and Fishers around the area. Verich Gold, Cardinal Ale, and Ohio Fest will be the 1st selections available in stores.
  8. +1 In this economy, and in his field in particular, how can we expect him to pass up an opportunity that may NEVER come along again? I'm sure Charlie had a great deal of respect for the competitive fire Nick brought to every UA-MU clash. It's a good lesson in giving your all, no matter the endeavor, because you never know who might be noticing.
  9. No media guide for the 2010 season yet either
  10. The folks in Athens are going to love this
  11. The one photo we absolutely NEED in this thread, is Dreal in his Zippy costume
  12. Here is the Beacon's story on the corrosion grant. Link
  13. Here's a Beacon article on this subject. Link
  14. I was only there for the 1st half, but I agree the team looked pretty sharp (Meves slip was no doubt influenced by the slick field at the beginning of the game) and the stadium looked great. The Rowdies were doing a nice job as usual (giving it to the ex-Zip keeper for VCU). I thought Kitchen was just a little tentative early on, but he seemed to settle as the game went on. On a side note, here's an article that quote's Porter as saying he think the team is ahead of last year's team at this point! Link I was thinking the same thing, Cap'n!
  15. CNN-SI has the Zips finishing in 5th place also at 2-6 in the MAC and 3-9 overall. More motivation. Link
  16. The Beacon has an article on Dylan Brumbaugh in today's high school football preview. His HC at Green is, of course, former Zip QB coach Tom Stacy. Link
  17. I had wondered about who was playing center. Rasor answered this in his latest blog. Link
  18. ESPN conversation has begun. Link
  19. Johnny, thank you so much for bringing this column to my attention. Steve Rushin used to be my very favorite sports writer -- and now I better understand why (it just figures we would both be Gunners fans!)-- when he had a weekly column INSIDE Sports Illustrated. He was dropped unceremoniously about three years ago, and I hadn't heard from him since. Here is the "personal" section about Rushin, and his wife - the former UConn great, from his Wikipedia website: Rushin is married to college basketball analyst and former basketball player Rebecca Lobo. In S.I., Rushin had written how he had slept with 10,000 women one night. He was referring, of course, to a WNBA game he watched and subsequently fell asleep. Rushin later recalled how Lobo confronted him in a Manhattan bar after reading that story. "She asked if I was the scribe who once mocked, in Sports Illustrated, women's professional basketball," he wrote. "Reluctantly, I said that I was. She asked how many games I'd actually attended. I hung my head and said, "None." And so Rebecca Lobo invited me to watch her team, the New York Liberty, play at Madison Square Garden. We both reeked of secondhand Camels. (And, quite possibly, of secondhand camels: It was that kind of a dive.) But my insult had been forgiven. It was—for me, anyway—love at first slight." He added: "She had the longest legs, the whitest teeth, the best-sown cornrows I had ever seen, and I imagined us to have much in common. I ate Frosted Flakes right out of the box, and she was on boxes of Frosted Flakes. I am ludicrous, and she was name-dropped in a rap by Ludacris. We were, I thought, made for each other."[30] Rushin and Lobo live with their three children in Western Connecticut.[31][32] In May, 2007, he was the Commencement Day speaker at Marquette, where he was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters for "his unique gift of documenting the human condition through his writing."[33] "Nineteen years ago, my commencement speaker was the honorable William H. Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court." he said. "And while I don't remember what he said that day, I do vividly recall being inspired by his example, and I vowed then and there that I too would pursue a career that allowed me to spend all day in a robe. And so I became a writer." Wow, what a great story! I had no previous knowledge of him, but I really liked his writing style in the article. One funny coincidence was that I was just watching the EPL round-up on FSC the other night and they were showing the highlights from the Fulham/Man U game when I turned to my wife and said something like "isn't that the greatest name for a sports venue?". I hate 'em, but here's an e-trip to the Ol' Traff: http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid=...BA953BCC1600%7D I don't like Man U either, but that is pretty cool. I was actually referring to this paragraph from Rushin's article:

  21. ESPN story on the same subject. Link
  22. Here here! Should be a great day of college football no matter what
  23. Looking back at the Sullivan thread (link), I'll concede that greatness at UA was not exactly predicted. My apologies BUT, your sources clearly thought the Zips had someone special by all of the Red and Silver references. You might say Alex wasn't given a fair shot here to prove or disprove that opinion. I don't think that's the case. But that's really another story. Link I know you've never actually said the words, but from your comments about Nicely it seems as though you think he has little to zero chance of being a quality QB for the Zips. It's just as hard for me to draw that conclusion at this point in time as it is for me to think he'll be a star for the next 3 years. Predictions and speculation are a big part of what a sports message board is all about. We discuss. We agree sometimes. We disagree others. No biggie to me. If we had to wait just for reliable information on Zip sports for every post, I think it might get a tad boring in here. On the first highlighted item, I do NOT think that Alex was not given a fair chance. But, I was hopeful that he would have stuck around long enough for us to see some of his abilities. And actually, considering the number of experienced guards ahead of him, I'm still surprised that we brought in another small guard at that time, regardless of his accolades. Obviously, our coaches were impressed with what they had seen/heard about him. The Red and Silver references are related to my disdain for OSWho Back to football... On the second highlighted item, I was actually was initially quite surprised by the negatives I heard about his game before he came here, and I don't like a lot of what I've seen of him since he's been here. And unfortunately, most of what I've seen has been consistent with what I was told to expect. On the third item, you are probably RIGHT. But, I could surely get by with a lot less of the "I'm right...You're wrong" fortune tellers, and the name-calling, which keeps so many other older fans I know away from here. But I appreciate your comments, especially since I know you're one of the older posters as well. I just try to pass along good information whenever I have it. Truth be told, there weren't any actually Red and Silver references.....it was Suckeyes. I just wanted to switch it up a little for Buckzip I rather like it that "Red and Silver" has caught on here. A guy I used to work with provided the inspiration.
