  1. Nothing concrete beyond that thread yet, but I think that thread defintley constitutes a "whisper." Oh I agree.....it seems as though several Bobcat fans are taking it to the bank.
  2. LeVon Morefield has been awarded a scholarship (way back in January evidently). Great job everyone involved and especially YOU LeVon! Go Zips!!! Link
  3. I might assume that this is one source of the whispers? Link
  4. LeBron partly explains his different feelings towards Cleveland as opposed to Akron. Link
  5. CBS isn't expecting much out of the Zippers either, although a 5th place finish is better than some have predicted. Their all-MAC team (link within the link) doesn't have a single UA player. Go on prove them all wrong Zips! CBS Sports Link
  6. Wasn't Sir Alex Ferguson just saying how difficult a physical match-up Teal Bunbury presents? Considering this sentiment from one of soccer's highest authorities, I'd say there are some pretty lofty expectations for Tulloch this year!
  7. Of course, this fails to give us credit for either time UC visited Akron (assuming they're remembering the 1996 Va Tech game). Va Tech UC Indiana UConn -- were they Big East yet? I'm pretty sure UConn wasn't a Big East football member when they visited the Rubber Bowl. So if the criteria is based on what conference the school was a member of at the time of the visit to Akron, I guess I have to take away the 1st UC visit. But still, UC was clearly a Big East member in 2008, so Syracuse will be the FOURTH BCS-conference team to visit Akron (after the first three you list above).
  8. Of course, this fails to give us credit for either time UC visited Akron (assuming they're remembering the 1996 Va Tech game).
  9. Excellent! Hmmmm former Orange and Miami Dolphin RB Larry Csonka played at Stow. I wonder if he'll show?
  10. Here is a Crain's Cleveland Business article summarizing the fairly recent upgrades to MAC football facilities and the expected impact on recruiting.
  11. Please allow the cloak of mystery to be slowly removed. Zipsnation FB Recruiting Thread
  12. While I've been one to say I expect smaller numbers out of him this year (not necessarily meaning he'll be less effective), Wagner gets some early recognition at Zach's favorite web site. Link
  13. Zach used the following link to show where Frank Stams has been hired by STO. At the end of the link, there is confirmation of Demetrious Treadwell, now listed at 6'8", as a walk-on for the Zips. Link
  14. As I read more about Orange HC Doug Marrone's approach to offense, it sure sounds like he and Ianello share similar philosophies. Both appear to desire a power running game and the use of the tight end in the passing game. This lead me to the following discovery. Remember when TE Jose Cruz transferred to FCS Hofstra after the 2008 season (and after a few noted drops, at least one a sure TD). Well with Hofstra dismantling football after last season, Jose became free to transfer anywhere. So now he resurfaces at SU for his senior year, ready to make a Carlton Jackson-like reappearance in Akron. Let's hope he endures a similar result! Link
  15. Let's also remember that this kid was offered an on-the-spot scholly because he impressed at a football camp he only decided at the last minute to attend. If I recall correctly, he was all set to focus on track in college until the offer from JD developed. I'll bet he decided this past week that he didn't really want to play football anymore period. Best of luck in your track career and Mike if that is the case, and good luck with everything down the road! I think sometimes we forget the focus and determination that is required at the D-1 level. It sure ain't for everybody and I respect those realize that early on and take appropriate steps.
  16. Got my tickets as well. I am thrilled to keep my lot 9 pass. My dad got his and he got upgraded from lot 10 to lot 9. This makes me think that season ticket sales have dropped quite a bit since last year. I hope that isn't the case. Got mine also and was upgraded from Lot 4 to Lot 9.
  17. Here is a link from the Erie paper. There goes my prediction against Syracuse Link
  18. Rasor comes through with some information on freshmen who are impressing. The interviews with Wagner and Nicely are interesting as well. I've said before that Wagner will probably take a step back this year in terms of numbers, but that the overall defense should benefit. You have to like PN7's opinion that there's too much talent on the team this year for the Zips to not make some noise. It seem to me that even Rasor, a noted Rodgers supporter in the past, thinks the job is Patrick's. Link
  19. I actually think Frenchy gives away the outcome with his tone even more than Joe Dunn. But I put up with it, because he seems to live and breathe Zips just like the rest of us. It's been hard to be a Zip football fan over the years and it's been hard to be the "voice of the Zips" as well. Hmmm maybe GP1 might have a point here. If the Zips were to drop down a classification, would Frenchy's overall "game mood" improve? Perhaps.
  20. Have you noticed he hasn't been mentioning any individuals lately in the video clips? As a fan it's natural to wonder who is impressing and who isn't. I guess we'll all get to see before too long at the scrimmage on the 21st.
  21. Here's another article about the transfer, complete with destination speculation (hey, I think I'll trademark that) in the comments. Link It appears Justin has grown some to 6'3", 200 LB. I think the angle UA should take is as follows: 1) Come and play closer to home (a given). 2) In the year you have to sit out, UA's stength and conditioning coaches will enable you to efficently fill out your frame. 3) You will be an absolute TERROR as a linebacker or safety in the MAC, garnering PLENTY of attention from NFL scouts. Think Brian Urlacher as a safety at New Mexico, but with more speed!
  22. I saw on Facebook where they have made the Tulsa TV game on FSC official. Here is an AkronNewsNow link confirming this. Link
  23. It's still early, but 193 votes out of 270 cast is a good start. Chicago politics has NOTHING on Zipsnation! Daley machine, schhmaley machine
  24. Now your just trying to make me mad. Cope is the only football announcer to be inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame and the recipient of the Pete Rozelle Award for "long-time exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football. Cigarettes took Copes life. Cope gave the rights to The Terrible Towel (one of the greatest marketing ideas in NFL history) to the Allegheny Valley School in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. The school provides care for more than 900 people with mental retardation and physical disabilities, including Cope's autistic son. Proceeds from the Terrible Towel have helped raise $3 million for the school. He was like Herb Score, you turned your tv off and listened to the radio because you wanted to hear what he had to say. He was a little more than "drunk out of his mind." I'm glad you cited Cope's extremely generous gift to the Allegheny Valley School. Interestingly, he is not the only Pittsburgh professional sports broadcaster to have had a key role in AVS's history. Longtime voice of the Pirates, Bob "The Gunner" Prince, was instrumental in getting the AVS off the ground in the earlies '60s.
  25. Here's a guy we REALLY need Rob to go after! Link
