It's just my opinion, but I don't think Keith is anywhere near the runner that Chandler Harnish is. Spencer Keith's Stats Chandler Harnish's Stats I seem to recall LOSING to K.E.N.T. as a 17 point FAVORITE once. Marcel Weems days? Game at K.E.N.T.? Anyone else recall? Wow. That's really surprising to me. I've seen both of them play, and Keith appears to be a lot more mobile to me. But I am sure glad we don't have to chase around Edelman anymore. Johnny...I hope someone can recall the game you might be referring to. I'd just be really surprised if either Ken+ or Akron has ever been a 17 point favorite in this game. I'm pretty sure the game was in 1992 (see edited post).

EDIT: I think it was in 1992 (link), the year we had our best record as a D-1 team at 7-3-1. K.E.N.T. pulled off a 20-14 upset that year. That was one of Pete Cordelli's (another Notre Dame WR coach, IIRC) total of THREE victories in three years as K.E.N.T. head coach

I've thought about this from time to time and we have been able to avoid any big injuries so far. I'm just not sure what that means Unfotunately, I think it means that there is no other excuse for why we are losing so badly except that the other teams are just that much better than us. Could the 1st five games have gone any worse? That's what I'm unsure of.

So no ZN questions were asked? One that I forgot: Coach I watch team after team that run a pro style offense use the TE to move the chains, do we have TE's that catch the ball, do we send them out in routes, does PN7 have enough check downs if coverage is tight down field? I'll hang up and listen to your answer.... The one about Carter was asked. I missed some of the show so maybe I also missed a few other ZN questions. IIRC, the host identified a period of the show as one in which "e-mail" or "internet" (not sure about these terms) questions would be asked (no specific mention on ZN by name, although he may have said message board). Here is a note for Fox 1350 Guy - If you use our message board as supporting material for your show, you give our message board due credit on the show. I can't believe the guy would enter a specific request via a post, asking for help from our members, then not mention "ZipsNation.Org" as a source on the show. It can't be true. No one lacks that sort of ethics. I probably should have said that I didn't happen to catch any specific mention of ZN by name. Like I mentioned before, I wasn't listening full-time.

There is no doubt most everybody was screaming for an end to the 3-3-5, but I can't recall anyone on here (much less "ALL PEOPLE") demanding a pro-style offense.

I listened to it, on and off, while I was doing a few other things. He gave an immediate and emphatic "NO" to whether they've considered switching Carter back to safety (although, he left a tiny crack open in the door by ending it with "never say never" and "if injuries started to accumulate" etc.). He thinks Holmes did OK in his 1st start at corner. He mentioned the interception for a TD was the product of a receiver running the wrong route (not PN7's fault). He gave general, (near) mid-season grades to all of the positions, but it seemed to me like he was pretty generic in his assessments. Among the players he seemed to be the most pleased with are Bailey, Wagner, Thomas, Allen, and Burney (in no certain order). He talked about K.E.N.T. a little, but he didn't offer up anything we don't already know. He was familiar with their personnel by name. I probably missed a few things, and perhaps someone else can fill in the rest.

I realize many of us didn't want to hear it at the time, but Joe Dunn was on the mark during the NIU post-game show when he mentioned the K.E.N.T. game as coming at a very opportune time this year. The Zips went from playing their best game of the year in Bloomington to last week's shellacking at the hands of the Huskies. At this point ANY win would be more than welcome, but a win over our eastern foes would certainly turn a few frowns upside down, at least for an afternoon. Here is Gaffney's early take on the game.

Ask him if he has any suggestions for a new avatar. I might need one after this Saturday

I'll throw out the obvious one. Has any consideration been given to putting Jalil Carter back at safety?

Hindsight is 20/20, but perhaps the fact that Dale was having trouble making his way up the Louisville depth chart during the woeful Kragthorpe years should have been a clue as to his level of play (whether it be due to injury or anything else). It makes me think that, when going after transfers, it might be a better option to find the player who may have had some off-the field issues rather than a former "X"-star recruit who is buried somewhere in a BCS depth chart. Of course, that's assuming there is reason to believe kid has turned things around in his life. The Michigan St DT transfer Oren Wilson might fit this scenario. At least we know the guy can play. I understand these opportunites are few and there will always be some risk in taking on a player who has been in trouble before.

To reply or not to reply– that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the intarwebs to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous commentary, Or to make posts against a sea of idiots And, by opposing, become one. To post, to reply No more – and by a reply to say maybe next week Classic!

Excellent! I really like the music selection too It makes me want to bring one of those shiny gold pompoms tonight, just to strike fear into the heart of NIU!

the only thing the zips learned is "dont except to get ANY calls when you play the Buckeyes" Yes, there were no penalty kicks awarded to the Zips or red cards doled out to the Buckeyes. We played a lousy game, get over it. Spoken like someone who wasn't there. This wasn't a loosely officated game, this was a case of the Buckeyes pushing us around and when we attempted to push back WE GOT whistled and/or carded. The red card was one of the most blatant acts of unsportsmanlike conduct i've ever witnessed and to be honest, two of their players should have been ejected from that as another one took a swing at one of our players. Like i said before, anyone that was there saw how bad it was. Spoken like someone who complains about the ref every time we lose or has some insane conspiracy theory every time something bad happens to us. Actually I was there. I saw some lousy calls go both ways... and the refs had N-O-T-H-I-N-G to do with last night's result. Lack of focus, shoddy execution, and an entirely too passive approach with a one-goal lead had everything to do with it. oh im sorry, you were there...However i'm sure it was your first soccer match.

Thanks for the heads-up, Cap'n. While I won't be in the burn-off, I will be bringing a large quantity of homemade bar-b-q Lima beans that should compliment the ribs well. Feel free to grab a side order.

The bell rings and Pavlov's dog salivates. The tailgating ends and my stomach begins to ache, but not from the food or beverages. THIS is the week our association with the Info as a house of horrors begins to change. Zips 30 Pups 27

While staying "perfect" throughout the season was always an extreme longshot, it does suck to have the Red & Silver be the 1st team to leave these blemishes. Nevertheless, the journey to an NCAA championship continues. Looking at the Big 10 standings, the Zips can't afford a let-down against UM, MSU or PSU. All seem quite capable. Here's to moving forward. Go Zips! Big Ten Overall Team Record Pct. Pts. Record Pct. 1. Michigan State 1-0-0 1.000 3 7-1-0 .875 Ohio State 1-0-0 1.000 3 5-2-1 .688 Indiana 1-0-0 1.000 3 4-3-0 .571 4. Penn State 0-1-0 .000 0 5-2-0 .714 Michigan 0-1-0 .000 0 4-2-3 .611 Northwestern 0-1-0 .000 0 3-4-0 .429 Wisconsin 0-0-0 .000 0 1-6-1 .188

iCoach Press Conference Video with Questions
johnnyzip84 replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
This guy is pretty upset over bullet point #1. -
Might as well start the pre-game chat here. Zips definitely played their best overall game last week. What I'd really like to see is the defense from Week 1 and the offense and special teams from week 4 show up on Saturday. If iCoach can muster up something close to that, I think it'll be a good game. Odds

Wow... and the decade is not even 9 months old?! This highlights the importance of getting the campaign started early!

Went to Bloomington with my wife this weekend and figured my observations might fit best here. 1. Georgio Bowers is a FOOTBALL PLAYER. He is consistently near the ball on special teams and he’s a good tackler. He also displays a lot of emotion and carries it with him to the bench. We need more young guys like him. 2. The biggest improvement in PN7’s game I noticed was the use of his checkdowns. He didn’t miss too many opportunities (making something out of nothing) in that regard. 3. I LOVED the way the staff had PN7 come out and immediately work with quick, possession passes. He actually got into a rhythm this game, and I think that was a big factor. 4. I don’t think Mondo has been healthy all year long. I give the guy credit for sticking it out, but you can see every time he comes in or out of the game that his mobility is very limited. I recall him coming out very early in the ‘Cuse game seemingly in a lot of pain. Maybe that’s when it all started. 5. Jalil Carter WILL return a kickoff for a TD this year. 6. IU’s offense will score points in the Big 10. It would be near the top of the MAC, IMHO. The size they have at receiver made for a particularly difficult matchup for our secondary. 7. IU’s defense is not very good (poor tacklers). They’d be middle of the pack in the MAC. I think the Zips offense will likely face better defenses in the next two games. 8. IU fans are a nice bunch. One who had made the trip to Akron last year went out of his way to compliment our new stadium. Most were quite civil. Several I talked to after the game focused on the two dropped TD passes and agreed the game should have been closer. They LOVE Bill Mallory. Maybe that’s why they’ve taken a “wait and see” attitude with Lynch’s squads. 9. IU has this mini-gridiron in the open end of “The Quarry”, where kids pack the field and play ALL GAME LONG. I don’t think the Info is set up too well for a similar feature, but it proved a nice distraction between plays (like watching an ant farm). 10. One-time Zip LB recruit Chase Hoobler (Orrville) was the IU defensive scout team “player of the week”. 11. Zipswin! is my early nominee for Zip fan of the year (if not the decade).

What if the opponent is offensively 1-dimensional, with a crappy quarterback? Interesting historical note: Garrett Wolf ran for around 200yards against us twice in 2005, and we beat Northern both times (going off memory, but I believe it is true). I think he (Wolfe) was hurt during the 1st game and limited to under 100. But their backup QB (Nicholson IIRC?) had a field day before finally losing out to Getsy in a shootout. I agree with assessment that NIU is probably more run-dependent than most teams. IF the Zips can limit them on the ground, maybe the secondary won't be as exposed against a team that clearly would prefer not to pass. I don't know much about NIU's receivers. Hopefully they're not all big like Indiana's. That was a matchup nightmare.

Someone call this guy a cab..... I'll say one thing. If there EVER was a time for an opponent to overlook another, this would be it. IU physically dominated us at the INFO last year, the 2010 Zips have stumbled out of the blocks, and the Hoosiers could be excused if they are peeking a little ahead to the Big10 season. Bill Lynch has a very difficult task on his hands in getting IU to take this game seriously.

My wife and I plan to be there, but we'll probably just barely make it to the game on the way back from Chicago. We're just going to wing it on tickets, hoping to catch a break at the last minute.
