  1. The Leakin actually has some video of Razor from camp today!Link
  2. The reaction of Iowa Hawkeye fans is pretty funny Link
  3. You know, I thought it was a little odd at the time when Toledo fired Stan Joplin. His program seemed to be reasonably successful on the court as far as I was concerned. It makes me think that the UT athletic department may have been aware of this point shaving allegation for some time.
  4. Excellent points all around. While I agree to a certain extent about the heightened importance of a good QB in the spread, I also cannot ignore the old FB adage of the game being won at the line of scrimmage. And this is where the 2008 Zips have a chance to shine IMO. I see this as the main reason this team cannot possibly finish last in the East (barring a horrible string of injuries, over and above what is typical). And if they DO, I agree it's over for JD. BUT, if that were to happen, I still believe the overall talent in place could become a big winner IMMEDIATELY with the right HC hire.
  5. The irony is, I asked for any info on Bowser that happened to be out there, and BFH came through. To paraphrase Sgt. Hulka (AKA "Big Toe"), "Lighten Up Zips Win!"
  6. Parma QB Rick Dockery is a little more "glitz" (OK, compared to Charlie that's not saying much ), but this is a good analogy, GP1 This is an entertaining, quick read as well.
  7. True but this preseason is the 1st game action for Charlie as a Seahawk. And I suppose a lot (perhaps his pro career?) may be riding on it.
  8. It looks like Holmgren wants to see during the preseason if Charlie has learned the Seahawk system well enough to allow current backup QB Seneca Wallace to play other roles.LinkHere's another link to a Seattle site with a little more from Charlie himself.KOMO
  9. There isn't much in details, but the Beacon does have a story on the opening of fall camp. It did mention that the secondary picked off Jacq and Rodgers FIVE times Can we hope it was just incredible DB play?I am very curious to hear anything about Bowser, if anyone happens to hear. He is another key to the offense this year, IMHO.Link
  10. I don't know, I think the Buckeyes could stay within 7 You know, I've seen you complain mightily about why can't this board be more friendly and open-minded to fans of both the Zips and Buckeyes, but there's no doubt you bring a lot of this on yourself. Now maybe you are just reacting to how you've been treated by some in the past? Perhaps, and much of this may have come before my time on this board. But here are a few of my own comments on some of the things you've said on this thread. TRUE, Syracuse will be favored and it WILL be an upset if the Zips win. But, I think it has all the makings of a pretty competive game (can't wait for this road-trip). While the final score was a little mis-leading, Indiana did NOT manhandle the Zips last year. And, yes the college football forecasters are probably not losing any sleep over how the Zips will perform in 2008, but couldn't you cut a ZIP FAN a break on this board??? And his main point is valid. The Zips are VERY much an enigma heading into the season. And I don't care if it's only the people on this board who care, that doesn't change the reality. My final point is this (and I apologize if someone else has made this point before). Maybe if you changed your name to Zipbuck others here would take you more seriously as a Zip fan. I'd call it "deferring to the home team". Just a thought. BTW, I am NOT trying to start one of THOSE discussions. I will only respond to the part about my name because that is the only part to me that I understand about your post. The rest is your opinion. This board is new compared to most college sites. When I signed up for my first site, years back, it was an OSU site. The name Zipbuck was already taken. Buckzip was the next best thing. I am too lazy to try to remember different names and passwords, therefor I use the same ones on every site. I hope that helps. Thanks for the explanation. The fact that you considered the use of "Zipbuck" on an OSU site is actually pretty brave. BTW I didn't expect you to AGREE with my comments, but I'm not sure why you can't understand them. I thought they were pretty straight-forward.

  12. This is fairly old news, but the Rockets will "host" (big laugh) the Suckeyes in Cleveland Browns Stadium in 2009, followed by a later game in Columbus.Link
  13. Can anyone say Gerald McNeill, Richard Johnson, and Clarence Verdun and Ricky Sanders? Just ask Jack Pardee!!!
  14. On the negative side, the Zips recently lost out to Michigan St. for 4-star OL Nate Klatt of Northwest HS in Canal Fulton (not that we had a great chance of landing him in the 1st place, but we DID offer).Link
  15. It seems as though not being part of the "field" is evidence of having more or less "arrived" as a mid-Major. It'll be even MORE interesting to see these odds NEXT year about this time
  16. That has to be one of the most absurd season projections I've seen. Granted Syracuse is down right now and I will be at the Carrier Dome like a number of you expecting a good game, but there is essentially ZERO chance that we WIN that game AND go winless in the MAC. Pretty silly
  17. Since Tressel got them going, YSU has generally traveled very well when playing UA or Can't St. so you would think this would be some incentive as well for them. I agree that we'll just have to wait and see. Attitudes may change.
  18. I'm not sure if Toledo fans ASK for it or not, but there has only been one season (2004) since Amstutz has been the coach that UT has NOT scheduled a 1-AA (FCS) team. Actually, I don't see it as being that bad of an idea. While not the cost of IC, UT put up a relatively large sum of money to add the luxury boxes, etc to the Glass Bowl some years ago. And while they bring in a yearly 1-AA team, they also bring in a "name" program about every year or every other year. It seems like a decent balance to me.
  19. Starship actually played the Rubber Bowl. I don't what year it was, as it was certainly well before my time. But Grace Slick apparently didn't like the presence of the police being at the show and she told the crowd to push through security and come on stage, thus leading to a riot. I don't know how it all turned out or the validity of the story, but this is what I heard from an old hippie from Texas when I told him I was from Akron. Thanks for bringing the discussion full circle, back to a UA football related item, BB! That story sounds vaguely familiar. I'll have to ask around.
  20. Is that like when MC decided to only go by "Hammer?"I'll leave myself open for "oldie" comments with this, but I'll throw in when Jefferson Starship (formerly Airplane, of course......not sure what would have come after Starship) decided to be just "Starship".As far as the original comment about CJ being gone, don't you think you might have jumped the gun a little uakronkid? I mean how do you necessarily know which CJ he was talking about? I'm just messing with you. YOU provide as much information and ENTHUSIASM as anyone on here (in all sports I might add), and I for one appreciate it And I do agree, the O-LINE should be pretty good and pretty deep as well.
  21. One of the best things about this is that it's one of the lead stories being rotated on ESPN.com's front page. It's as close to free advertising as you get, and I'm sure it's gnawing at the BCS schools to see the unofficial Lebron/UA connection in the news once again.
  22. 10-2 or better he leaves on his own.6-6 to 9-3 he stays.5-7 (and this is the most likely in my opinion) is right on the border (too close to call).4-8 or lower he is let go.
  23. Hey I was comparing this preview to the one on the Cincy Bearcat Rivals page (see earlier thread titled "the outside view") and uakronkid, you are all over this one. They just took it (UC Bearcat original) and stuck it threw a word grinder. Unreal.
  24. Here's to the Zips pulling off more than a few "unhappies" this season!
  25. Odds are I won't be able to make it unless the College Cup is played on the West Coast -- an unlikely scenario. Find me in the stands at UNM Soccer stadium in Albuquerque 9/12/08.I've noticed how many universities have "double-service" track & field and soccer fields. The place they play in Cowlumbus; Drake Field at UCLA; New Mexico's place are all track stadiums first. So the idea that Akron is at a disadvantage because they don't have a major soccer-only facility may not be that big a thing. It doesn't appear to be hampering Caleb's ability to recruit future pro players.BTW -- did anyone see the 16 year old Ethiopian, Ibrahim score for Toronto FC vs the Chicago Fire yesterday? Bob Bradley better get that kid's immigration documents to his doorstep, like now, man! Hurry before the Canadians get there first.I saw a replay of Ibrahim's goal after the game on FSC. It was impressive indeed, but I may have even been more impressed with how this kid handled the interview after the game. He seems to be extremely calm and mature for his age.
