  1. Not to disagreee or agree or whatever with anything that's been said on here, but I am wondering why there seems to be roughly ZERO news coming out of spring ball? Has anyone heard anything about anybody???
  2. One of my favorite forms of speculating is "conference hopping", so I'm going to combine a few of the ideas I've seen on here for one possible (perhaps not so likely, but hopefully amusing) scenario.1) The MAC indeed pressures Temple to commit to being a full member and succeeds, mainly because joining the MAC in FB has breathed the most life into this program that has been seen since the early 80's.2) After first considering WKU and MTSU in the West to balance the addition of Temple, the MAC receives a gift in the form of Northwestern due to bullet #3.3) After 123 years of playing as an independent, Notre Dame agrees to join the Big 10 in 2010. The Irish are joined by Big 12 defector Missouri, with Northwestern agreeing to leave amicably, seeking a more competitive environment in the MAC.4) Colorado State announces they are leaving the MWC to take Mizzou's former spot in the Big 12, leaving the conference formerly known as the Big 10 with a serious dilemma in terms of a name. After much discussion, some nutty graphic arts major develops a NEW Big 10 logo with the numerals 1 and 2 incorporated into the scheme. They decide to remain the "Big 10".
  3. Looking forward to seeing him show his talents at the Rubber Bowl and then in the spanking, brand new stadium Is he participating in spring practice? I didn't see his name on the roster that is posted on GoZips.com, but that doesn't really mean anything. If he is, can you comment on how he likes it here so far?
  4. Just like Ward and June used to say, I think you meant "Beaver" (not Duck).
  5. I also doubt if Marquinn Davis is 285 LB either. If this were true, at 6'6" and 285 LB with the athleticism he displays on film, this guy would totally dominate as a rush DE. Come to think of it, he may totally dominate even if he's, say, 260! Does anyone have any scoop on his development?I agree that this team looks to have more depth than any in the D-1 era. I, for one, think the defense has a chance to be very, very good. The glaring exceptions are at QB and WR, but we all know the story there. Does anyone else think that Alphonso Owen might be able to step up and have a much better SR season, in spite of (or because of?) the host of new talent being brought in at that position?
  6. You may think he is an idiot now, but within a month something BIG is going to break which should change your mind (and this is a four-star Zipmeister/Wisconsin lock").I think I got it! Northwestern will leave the Big 10 and joing the MAC. Right?
  7. I know he missed the 3 (someone had to shoot) at the end of the game, but today J-Wood played one of the best games I have ever seen a Zip play. This is especially considering that it was against a quality opponent. I hope he hooks on in Eupope or in the NBA developmental league, if he chooses. He has been a blast to watch over his career.
  8. agreed! J-Wood should be commanding plenty of attention now for the pass back outside to be open.
  9. and the Zips are putting on a defensive clinic!PLUS, J-Wood is unstoppable!!!
  10. J-Wood finds his 3-ball stroke at the end of his career! How awesome is that? Ever since that desperation shot against Cant he's been hitting it. Maybe it was always there but he was not encouraged to take it (for undertandable reasons).
  11. Well 34-31 at half isn't too bad, especially considering that it looked like a possible "runaway" after the 1st ten minutes. We will need to keep hitting the 3 to win it, though. Keep going inside to J-Wood and have him passout to the hot shooters. That and play the defense that got us back into it.
  12. we can always dream ha ha. if we can beat fsu on mass on the rd anythings possible. all i know is that we have been in the postseason longer then cant ha ha got to love it.plus if we CAN win today. Syracuse is driveable. We would play them in the Dome, right? It's only MSG in the semis I think.
  13. Much better D since it was 27-16. I like it that we're playing Brett McNight more.
  14. Looking like a big time learning experience right now
  15. Someone has to start it. They pronounced Dambrot correctly!
  16. When I was an undergrad at UA from 1979-1984, I was probably one of MAYBE a dozen full-time, on-campus students who were from Western Pa (Mom still lives in Crafton, I'm a graduate of Canevin HS). Since then, numerous sports programs have successfully recruited the Western Pa area quite well, so that now there seems to be a much larger contingent in general on campus. I also have to throw in how the campus is INFINITELY more student-friendly and attractive at this point in time. I'm selling it to my 12 year old nephew in Bethel Park every chance I get!Best of luck throughout the recruiting process, and I would love to see another fellow Pennsylvanian on the Zip front line for years to come.
  17. I noticed on Monday night, WKYC had stories about the Flushes, Suckeyes and Hagars but nary a mention of the Zippers. It seems they must have had a few people object, because by yesterday's newscast, the Zips were added into the mix.
  18. I watched a little of UMASS against SFA before the Zips game last night. The Minuteman front line is big and blocks a lot of shots. I think the "work it inside to Wood and back out for 3's" strategy can work against this team. I hope JW has his pump fake bag of tricks working too, because UMASS will go for 'em. The thing I keep reminding myself is that the Zips did not play a particularly good offensive game last night (although I agree with many, the D was outstanding). Now I know the competition is pretty stout in the NIT, but have there, up to this point, been 2 games in a row this year in which UA has played poorly on offense?
  19. I also thought Dials was spent when he missed both FTs, but I didn't realize he had a 3rd, 4th, or even 5th wind! They should be fine by Saturday.
  20. This is a huge win for the program. Coming off of a season low point, and winning a game like this while using a fair number of younger players will really help next season. Like coaches always point out, just the mere fact that they can continue to practice as a team will work wonders. I couldn't be prouder of these guys tonight.
