  1. Much like last week, BG opens up as a bigger favorite but the line is now down to 4 points.
  2. Miami post-game thoughts 1. I haven’t questioned the tactics of this staff once in 2012, but I definitely think there were errors in clock management towards the end of the game. And as Lee Corso used to say on the NCAA video game “I’m not second guessing, I’m FIRST guessing” because I told a few people up in my section that I thought the Zips should install the olé defense with about 2 minutes left and one timeout remaining (instead of 1:04 with no timeouts). By the way, I also thought Miami should have simply centered the ball and worked the clock down to nothing before kicking a FG to win it. But maybe they don’t have much faith in the FG kicker since he missed an extra point earlier. 2. I didn’t hear Frenchie’s call, but where was Keith Sconiers? 3. Is Presley out for the year? If so, I’m not sure who steps up at end. That was a real shame, since he had just sacked Dysert a few plays earlier for a big loss. 4. Is Gilmer really the best matchup for covering a receiver spread out wide? Are we that short of DBs where we don’t use nickel or dime coverage very much? 5. I’m now getting VERY concerned about the need for a win (soon) to boost this year’s recruiting class. I really thought the Zips could take Miami, so this makes the BG game fairly high stakes from UA’s perspective.
  3. Keener's always the 1st to deflect props elsewhere, but his bagel breakfast sandwiches rocked! I second the appreciation for the Edmund Fitzgerald cupcakes. The baker has major talent Thanks also to gozips19 for the GL Octoberfest on tap and the magnificent ruben. Lastly I need to mention Zipgrad01 allowing me to try this unbelievably tasty treat from Germany: Many thanks!
  4. With the NIU game being at noon, might I suggest a breakfast theme that day and have the chili cookoff later for UMass when it's colder?
  5. I'm having a mini-Octoberfest, with Great Lakes and Thirsty Dog Barktoberfest.
  6. GT article on Cody in today's Beacon. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the front four performs against the MAC
  7. This article is actually a little old. I had noticed last week that Clayton struggled against Southern (8/18 for 82 yards and 1 int) before being replaced by McDonald. I hope he can get it going again for JSU.
  8. Here’s MY take Now I don’t know Joe Dunn personally in any fashion whatsoever. But I do have an anecdote that might suggest that his “vanilla” exterior hides a somewhat fiery interior. I have a friend who graduated from YSU and has been a part of the Penguins traveling fan base in the past. Many years ago, during one of the last UA-YSU games at the Rubber Bowl, he and a few of his inebriated Penguin buddies were in their own words “being obnoxious” near one of the tunnels used by the players to enter the field. There were enough of them that traffic was somewhat congested in the area. This was just as halftime was ending and Joe was trying to get through the jam to get back on the sidelines. One of them smarted off to Joe and with little warning Joe clocked the guy in the face with a short left and proceeded onto the field. The Penguin fans were stunned and thought about making a stink about it, but I think they sort of respected his unexpected reaction in a strange way and decided to leave it alone.
  9. Maybe it's time for you to give him a call and spice things up a little! One thing is for sure. If you want to call, he'll get you on the air.
  10. I thought I’d bump this thread since I’ve been listening to Joe Dunn pretty steadily for the last few weeks and he and his partners have really been promoting the Zips recently on the 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm show. They’ve been talking about the Miami game all week. They gave away tickets yesterday and I think they plan on giving more away today. Do they talk about other college teams? Sure. But I don’t think I’ve ever heard as much Zip discussion on local radio. He often talks to Dambrot and other Zip notables. Give it a listen if you haven’t already.
  11. Line is down to 3.5 It's dropping faster than Enron. Edit: apparently Miami will still be without standout WR Nick Harwell.
  12. The race starts at 7:00 am, so this shouldn't be an issue. Although getting to our parking spaces for tailgating could be affected.
  13. Although the Tennessee game was a tough one mentally, emotionally and physically, I can’t fathom this team not being ready to play against Miami this Saturday. The Sweaters have long been one of the more heated MAC East rivals for the Zips, and this team is hungrier than ever for a W. I believe the difference in this game will be UA’s ability to pressure Dysert. Nico Caponi and Cody Grice will consistently occupy the middle three of Miami’s O-line, allowing Albert “Takin’ Care of future Businessmen in a F.L.A.S.H.” Presley and JD Griggs to make big plays from the edge. I also think if Dysert decides to pull it down and run when Bre’ Ford happens to be on the field, it’s a fumble waiting to happen. The Zips will get contributions from quite a few players on offense and eventually pull away. Look for Tyler Williams to score his first (I believe) collegiate touchdown. UA 38 MU 24
  14. This guy likes the Zips and the points (sorry Lee). Besides, don't you just love the pic in the upper left hand corner (during the UT game)?
  15. You could be onto something. But I think the primary reason ZD11 was the holder is because he has probably the best hands on the team.
  16. Here's what the enemy is saying. Some are concerned. Some still think of the Zips as the conference patsy.
  17. I agree it would seem unlikely for him to get a red shirt for 2012 at this point. Plus I think he'd have to ask for a hardship request (for 6 years of eligibility), and I believe they might have to show that the 2011 RS year was due to injury as well. I'd be thrilled to get him back playing for 3 full years. On another note, we can't forget that ZD11 was also the holder for Stein on FGs and Xtra points. Hopefully the staff can work someone in quickly and seemlessly this week, especially now that Robert is finding his groove.
  18. I think it's a great idea, and I also like the timing. Hopefully the weather (which looks good at this point, with a predicted high of 65 F and only a 10% chance of rain) will cooperate as well.
  19. .
  20. Outstanding and well deserved! Hmmm I wonder if he'll get some love on the coach's show tonight?
  21. Some here will still think this paints a rosy scenario. I think it’s about as objective and logical as you can get. Of course it’s evident that the MAC is punching above its weight this year. But the results (especially the weekly improvement) of the 1st four games indicate the Zips are right there with them. Don Treadwell certainly has his work cut out for him this week, bringing the hated “sweaters” into town as the favorite. While the odds makers still aren’t believers, I’m sure the MAC coaches are fully aware of how well the Zips are playing.
  22. NZF, you were far closer to the pick of the century than many of us thought possible Although it really upsets me that ZD is out for the year, we appreciate the early news. He was really coming into his own, too! Hopefully, he heals perfectly and is ready for 2013. Adding to Keener’s central point, why would any of us look at the rest of the schedule and see ANY of the remaining games as “unwinnable”? The improvement from week-to-week is glaringly obvious. Every MAC team (save for possibly OU, and I believe they will grossly overlook the Zips) has thus far revealed at least one “chink in the armor”. As long as a few key players stay relatively healthy the rest of the season, we should have a fighting chance in every single game. If the improvement continues from week-to-week, I REALLY like our chances to finish the season with a bang
