  1. Good points and my thoughts are much the same. It will be interesting to see whether our defense is better equipped to handle a spread/finesse attack as opposed to the power running game it faced last week.
  2. Now that the season is underway, I am wondering whether George Thomas (or anyone else) might be able to find out why the following individuals do not show up on the current roster: 1) OL Curtis Black 2) DB Benny Cunningham 3) DL Arlington McClinton 4) OL Kevin Mills 5) DB Josh Smith 6) DL Jason Stargel I'm not trying to be an alarmist. I'm just curious if we can expect to see them eventually or not. I certainly wouldn't want to see a fall-out rate of 6/21 in every class (I realize we added a few late signees like Hakeem Lawrence and Jamel Turner).
  3. The opening line is déjà vu all over again. Edit: the link seems to have been removed (will probably be back up tomorrow), but the line is indeed 23 1/2 points once again
  4. Steve-O gets 1st start for 1st team since injury against FC Dallas tonight He's even got an assist already in the 1st half (1-1). Welcome back, Steve!!! Edit: sorry, Bobby I didn't see that you had already provided this information in another thread.
  5. I'm really glad you stated that before a certain Penguin poster graced us with his presence.
  6. I was watching a CFL game a week or so ago, and the left side of the Edmonton Eskimos D-line was comprised of ex-Zips Shawn Lemon and Almondo Sewell. This situation will get even stranger once Jermaine Reid returns to the Eskimos. Statistically, this is the best defense in the league. Hopefully 'Mondo and Shawn will continue to see time once Jermaine is back playing again. What are the odds of all three of these UA guys winding up on the same CFL team?
  7. 1st show tomorrow night at 7:00 pm on STO
  8. Getting back on topic, I didn't participate in the predictions, but the MAC had a pretty respectable day yesterday. It's just too bad Toledo (OT loss) and NIU came up just a little short in their upset bids. BGSU also played very well against Florida, but it's hard to tell what is going on on Gainesville these days. I don't think Muschamp will be around for next season.
  9. After a sub-par 1st half, Tyler really got things going after halftime. I was particularly impressed with his accuracy and consistency on 3rd down. That was the key to the game. He has somewhat of an odd, shotput-like delivery, but there's no denying he's a very effective college QB. Given his size, maybe he can switch to safety or slot receiver for a shot at the NFL?
  10. I just checked out the box score, too. FIU had a big edge in first downs (29-16), had more rushing yards, and had more passing yards. Must have been a crazy 2nd quarter as somehow Duke scored 30 points in it to blow things open.
  11. I must admit that it looks like I was WAY off on my view of FIU, based on Duke blowing them out in Durham. I'll gladly be wrong (again) if it means our Zips have a better shot to even their record come next Saturday!
  12. I take back my earlier statement. The attendance is 3077. You nailed it
  13. still 1-1 under 28 min to go in 2nd Yedlin needs to be careful there
  14. LOL!! So Yedlin AND Koroma have picked it up!!
  15. It looks well over 1/2 full to me. I agree that Yedlin needs to pick it up on both ends.
  16. I thought it might be interesting to start a thread for special individual talents that remain on the Zips schedule in 2012. I'm watching Tennessee jump all over NC State right now on ESPN. UT's JC transfer WR Cordarrelle Patterson is absolutely phenomenal The Tyler Bray to Patterson connection will be an incredible challenge for Freeman, Commack etc come September 22.
  17. I agree with the honorable Mr_Knightman in his assessment of FIU. The Crystal Ball didn't turn down Rutgers without a very good reason. They're loaded in 2012. BTW, Mr_Knightman thanks for visiting and best of luck to UCF the rest of the year. Hope to see you in Orlando in 2013
  18. I'll second Keener's opinion on the hot apple pie. It was candy. Also, thanks Keener for the 3 Floyds Gumballhead Wheat Ale It was like a cross between an IPA and a Witbier. I liked it a lot. Come to think of it, I believe Sam Adams (not usually a huge fan) has a similar hybrid in their Whitewater IPA which I enjoyed earlier in the summer.
  19. OK, I forgot to mention a few other things that come to mind: 1) I believe Frenchy said on the post-game show, in discussing March's INT, that the 2011 Zips didn't have an INT until the EIGHTH GAME OF THE SEASON. 2) We haven't seen this kind of competency at the QB position since Luke Getsy. And DW13 did this against what is expected to be a very good defense. I like his chances of posting some mind-boggling stats against a few MAC schools. 3) Since the staff has openly discussed allowing Zach Paul to possibly attempt long FGs, I hope they consider letting him kickoff as well. While I think Stein will settle into a fairly accurate PK before long, he simply can't get the ball deep enough on kickoffs. 4) From this point on when we're faced with 3rd or 4th and short, I suspect we'll be throwing the ball at least 50% of the time and I can't say I would disagree with that strategy given our current roster. 5) We all knew a 1-3 record was about a 95% probabilty after the 1st four games. If we cut down the mistakes over the next 3 weeks, we can still have a little fun in the MAC and spring a few surprises there.
  20. Excellent points made by all so far. When I went to summarize my thoughts, I first had a listen to Coach Bowden's post-game interview. He reiterates what many of you have already stated. There's not much left for me to add except it's one thing to face a team that is much bigger than you. It's exponentially more difficult when that team is also much faster than you. Go Zips!! ps. Although it occured well after the game was decided, I liked the little I saw of Horner and Jamel Turner on defense.

  22. And I forgot to renew my subscription Guess I'll have to get down there around 2:00 pm to see for myself
  23. I'll bet UA can offer more money than the Atlanta Silverbacks for Eric Wynalda!
  24. He must have switched the visit to tomorrow. Maybe they'll take him to the football game?
