  1. Here are some video highlights: There are two things that I like that stand out: 1) High motor 2) Good vision
  2. That's certainly one possible interpretation. But let's review the following lines from the story: It's the dreaded, ambiguous use of the pronoun "he" (in bold) that causes the confusion. Does this refer to William or Marcus? That is the question. But taking a look at the last sentence, the word "few" (in bold) may be the smoking gun that implies William will be joined by more than just Marcus at Akron. Maybe George Thomas can solve the mystery. Getting back to Houst, it's great to see him being a disruptive force in an all-star game like this. I'm guessing his size (6'2", 230 lbs) at DE may have steered more prominent schools away. I'll take an undersized kid who can play any day over a paper giant. If he buys solidly into the weight program at Akron, he could easily wind up playing at 265 lb or so in a few years. The K.E.N.T. DE who has been tearing up the MAC isn't exactly huge.
  3. I wonder if he got a scholly? Here is the Ohio roster for the game. I'm still trying to figure the other "dude" from the roster who is also headed to UA.
  4. This story on the death of Minnesota Gopher LB Gary Tinsley refers to Avis as playing safety for the Zips.
  5. Whatever happened to zippyrifle32? Seems she's been dormant since Dec 2010. I'll bet she could straighten up these rumors.
  6. An excellent, humorous, indirect, and true answer all at once. Well done
  7. Regarding Cheatham, I sure hope we offer Rob Dewey and Broderick Howe as well. The UA Law School would salivate over a front line comprised of those three.
  8. The Winnipeg Jets play in an arena with a capacity of only 15,004, so they're selling out every game. And any long-time NHL fan knows NYC has always been about the Rangers, despite even the efforts of Bossy, Potvin and those great Isle teams of the 70's and 80's. That's why the folks in Quebec City think they might be able to snag the Isles into their brand new building in a few years. I hope they can too, because we've gone without the provincial war between the Nords and Habs for long enough!
  9. Here is a local story (Austin Statesman) that describes the difficult conditions Conor and his USA U-19 teammates are facing. I have a sister in Austin and I've been there in July. It's stifling heat. At least the competition in this tournament shouldn't be that strong. He ought to be in pretty decent shape come Zip summer camp
  10. Now THAT'S the way to bring the discussion full circle AND get it back on topic, Dr Z. Who can forget the "old" USFL WINNING their antitrust suit against the NFL and receiving a judgment of just 1 dollar, which was TRIPLED under antitrust laws to a grand total of THREE DOLLARS!
  11. Since they paid a buck for it, they would either be even (ignoring inflation) or ahead (assuming inflation). Maybe you're assuming the value of the bowl has been adversely affected by the housing bubble
  12. The Wikipedia entry for the Rubber Bowl has been updated to include its possible use by the USFL. It contains a comment that I find interesting. There was a lot of bellyaching by “the Don” with the way he felt he was left out of UA’s plans for the Info. Could part of this be seen as an opportunity the Don's revenge? What if a renovated Rubber Bowl starts to compete for high school playoff action?
  13. Here is a PD story with some additional information. Personally, I think all this talk about buying the Rubber Bowl is merely posturing on the part of the Canton marketing group to help with negotiating a better price to use the Info. But it would be pretty cool to have games back at the old bowl, I'll admit. There's still probably only a 1 in 3 chance, IMHO, of Akron getting a team period.
  14. Maybe it'll be the one that's been on the prowl since 1946?
  15. I'm not gonna argue with you.......or him......on that!
  16. Fair enough and I agree with CK's notion that it's "game over" at the QB position for the 2013 class, unless Stockett decommits (just threw that in there to get Keener's blood pumping).
  17. Agreed although I'd throw Davanzo Tate in there as well. We didn't realize how good we had it with those two. I've commented before on Commack's size. He's a HUGE pick up in more ways than one!
  18. Steve Rushin article on Euro 2012 This is a pretty good summary of what has been a pretty good tournament thus far, but the real reason I posted this link is it has one of my all-time favorite lines in sportswriting history (below): I thought that was about as funny and clever a quip as I've ever encountered
  19. Here is a George Thomas article on Commack and RB Hakeem Lawrence. Nice work, George
  20. That’s a pretty thorough list. Thanks for taking the time The one local recruit I see missing is Glen Oak QB Reid Worstell, who Akron has offered. Although you have to wonder how this will play out now that the McKeesport QB has given a verbal commitment.
  21. This George Thomas article provides a name (Akron Fire) and an owner (Canton-based Team 1 Marketing Group) for the proposed USFL team.
  22. Canton Repository story on Akron's potential entry into new USFL The article claims the Info, the Rubber Bowl, and ...........eh-hem DIX STADIUM are under consideration
  23. Don’t wait around too long for a computer-based, four-team playoff. I think it’s obvious why the selection committee approach won out. It is merely a way to placate the Big 10, who no doubt feared getting left out of the playoff far too often under an unbiased selection procedure.
  24. There have been so few that I just couldn't allow even one to go unnoticed! Here's to hoping 2013 might be the next
  25. It's actually seven, but who's counting? Oh wait, I guess I was
