  1. All kidding aside...I do wonder if Moorhead would rather the winner know nothing about football coaching...or be someone who HAS coached at some level before.
  2. They certainly may. The key is going to be "is Poffenbarger a good MAC QB?" If he is, Akron can win the whole darn league. If he's not, Akron will win 3 or 4 games.
  3. I believe they DO have a pregame tailgate party set up for the opener.
  4. That's just it - if Goodrich is going to leave (and, let's be honest he's probably looking for a better paying gig, though you can live comfortably on the UA salary, I'm sure)...they gotta make sure his successor keeps the forward momentum going, or it'll be as if it never happened.
  5. The Athletic Department has been so passive and just not engaging with the community for so long that it's just going to take time. If this promotion kick starts a bit, that's a good start.
  6. Ah yes Akron's radio play by play voice wouldn't have seen anything in practices or in talking with coaches to make us think "hey this guy might surprise."
  7. Seems like the sort of thing you could see them do for the Pop Tart Bowl too, given how screwy that thing has become.
  8. He's here in 27 unless he quits. They can't afford to pay the buyout. That said even if they could 6-6 would make him completely safe.
  9. Gotta wonder if they don't do Akron on one of the Tuesdays - it's not the day of the "playcalling" event, but who knows. That this is even a consideration...
  10. If this is the Moorhead we usually got speaking publicly, I think we'd all think a little better of him.
  11. Honestly zero, because Moorhead still will be relaying the call, so he's got the final say and can change it.
  12. I think you almost HAVE to make it an annual promotion, right? Keep trying new things, though! There's actual buzz for the Zips!
  13. I would love to see them put it on ESPNU or something that's an actual TV channel. It's unlikely, but no longer an impossibility...
  14. Ohhh okay. That makes sense. That's a smart way for them to do it.
  15. What does this mean? Buying the $75 general admission season ticket and switching it for a couple games in the better seats?
  16. If they're smart, they're using some of the payout for a few season tickets.
  17. It's a great promotion. Just absolutely perfect. I also don't want to win it. Just in case.
  18. This is the type of stuff that they need to be doing. There's not really much bad promotion when you've drawn 8000 people a game for years and years.
  19. If he's good enough to actually get this sort of nickname (I did edit to get the first four letters of his last name as it still works), Akron can win the MAC.
  20. Fair. I stand corrected.
  21. I'm not sure any MAC school has a ceiling higher than the Sun Belt (NIU kind of, but only kind of, did with the MWC move, though they went Horizon everywhere else...which does work well for them, to be completely fair).
  22. The only thing about that...I just don't see what's in it for the AAC. Another league? Absolutely, I think at least half the MAC is looking at what NIU did. But I don't see any team in the MAC being "big" or "important" enough for the AAC. Sun Belt? OK, you may have a little more interest there. Some kidding aside...how gung-ho is the PAC-12 with regard to its basketball...we can bring them some noon kickoffs for TV and a legitimately decent basketball program...
  23. Excellent writeup. I'm not sure I see all six of these wins, but this is a very well-reasoned argument. I'm still saying 4-8 (Kent and Ohio are the two of yours I would probably peg as losses). It's only Year Five; we can't expect Joe to increase on his win total for a third straight year with so many disadvantages.
  24. Is Moorhead physically capable of saying anything that gives Zips fans hope?
  25. If Joe had ever once said "we're going to succeed despite our limitations," I'd agree with your assessment. Or if he'd ever have been positive about where things are or could be. Then maybe. But nope, the public head of our program is just "yep it sucks."
