^^It doesn't? You have a college of Art on campus...what an interesting class project/department competition/grad project. The thing I hate about universities is they're constant outsourcing to groups outside of their university to do work. Why not use your best assets which already exist on campus?

The 2015 Football Commitment List
Balsy replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Reading between the lines here: but he's probably going to JUCO? Because in his tweet he says "still got love for the school #Zips #AkronZips"? -
I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record with this: Terry Bowden will retire as Head Coach of the Akron Zips.
-
@BuckZip I completely agree with that. There's all this talk about Hackenburg being the next coming...I remember talk very similar to that in regards to a certain Michigan QB last year. They're even more ripe for beating when you take into consideration: We essentially have a "pre-season" game week 1. We have 9 days to heal/prepare afterwards. We only have to travel 4 hours away. They're first game is in Dublin Ireland, on a Saturday, they have a 12 hour flight back, with 7 days *cough* better make that 6 days *cough* possibly just 5. To rest/heal/prepare They have a first year coach (yes I know he's good). Bowden needs to buckle the boys down week 1, and pull out the game-planning skills he has.

Those are wonderful articles that I believe were posted in other threads at some point...but they are very good! It's cool to think that Akron has a once National Champion caliber coach here. If we can keep him for years to come, this program will blossom into the best in the MAC.

Update: Added Punter Kyle Foster.

Or perhaps an actual investigative report, that presents real evidence. Johnathan Goldberg has some good points a lot of good points in there (that I agree with), but also has some fallacious (and politically motivated) jabs thrown in there.

The playground part I'll give the caveat that it's a necessity for institutions; because students are looking for X, Y, Z thus will go to a University that has decent/good X, Y, Z. Students are directly paying for that, and (for the most part) demand those things. I personally think it's because these young adults have grown up in a society that portrays the "college life" in the mass media as A, B, C, so those young adults expect the college life to include A, B, C. Unfortunately many of these young adults don't think about the cost of those things of which society has marketed to them. The biggest problem is absolutely the dramatic increase in bureaucrats and administrators, as well as their pays. There seems to be a rush to pad resumes with BS initiatives, "building processes", and program creation. We need not look any further than the Hiring of Jim Tressel at the University of Akron. A BS position, with BS job requirements was created to pad resumes with BS. All while costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Absolutely amazing.

If anyone has a problem with it for 1-2 games a season...I suggest that they pull they're resources with other ZipsNation members and make a donation for new uniforms for the team.

Thanks for posting. I still HATE the framing by the media that the sales tax increase is for a new stadium for UA...because it's not. I did like the focus that UA is becoming an important part of the Akron economy.
-
Alright, alright GP1 I agree. "Act Boldly" is much better. "Time To Shine" I think is a decent line for our posters.

The "Zipper" on the helmet didn't last very long last year. Some here hated it, some love it. Every media picture/replay (Michigan game mostly, and our new football promotional stuff has it) actually makes the team look more interesting IMO. I all honesty I hated the stripe on the helmet when I first saw it (I hate change to uniforms, and I'm very concerned about the pending "change" to the Browns uniforms...). But after seeing it used, I was actually more than okay with it. Perhaps we should give it a shot.

@GP1 I was thinking of not just of an impact on the football program, but an impact on UA in general. I agree with you that most of the people who come to a Browns practice on campus won't give two-s***s about UA or the football program. However there is a number who will, a number of families with kids (who are younger and will one day be college kids) will have a better image of UA than they ever did before. Having events like this IMO has more of a long-term impact. For the short term: UA should absolutely schedule a "Meet the Bowdens" event that day, it would do nothing but help the image of UA and our FB program. I never had even been to UA before my sister had her graduation (from HS) there while I was in HS...I saw that the campus wasn't that bad. When I started my search for colleges, UA was on the list because of my positive experience at UA. That was before UA had a stadium on campus. That was before a lot of the upgrades that have taken place over the past 8 years, and it has only upgraded since I've been there. Now I'm a proud Alumni, who buys season tickets. I agree with that being a little much to ask (the Tuesday night games)...but perhaps far more will grab a schedule...look at it...see that there are ESPN games on Tuesday nights in November (when no other football playing) and say "hey, maybe I'll watch that game". They watch the game: (hopefully it's an entertaining one that we end up winning) and they get more positive experience from UA. I get where your coming from GP1, your being realistic, but I don't think we can so easily write off the possibility for creating future Zips from these positive experiences.

@akzipper...again, isn't this new uniform just for 1-2 games a season? Everyone's over-reacting to this.
-
A win over Penn State would be the desperately needed press for the Zips. I'm beginning to think that this season may be one of the most important seasons in a long time. Not because we can improve, but because it's an opportunity to take a giant step forward. Let's borrow a term from basketball shall we? ThinkBigger.
-
@GP1 that's awfully cynical. Sure they know there is football at Akron, but have they ever been to the Stadium or the Campus? How many of those families (because it is family night) haven't been to UA before...and will get to see the campus/the football facilities. Most of them won't care, you're right, but some of them may leave with positive feelings towards the Akron program.
-
Sorry I'm ignorant...but why is there not enough room at Browns headquarters?
-
It's time to capitalize on this opportunity Terry. 12-0 Baby! But seriously...I will likely go to this event...in full Zips gear. Out of my two football teams (Cleveland Browns and Akron Zips) I have more faith in the Zips turning it around.
-
    I do agree with Zach though...White with green lines would look better...until they play on it and it gets dirty. I don't like the gimmick colored turfs.
-
I absolutely love this quote! THIS is the kind of guy we need to be recruiting, and if it's true that he's one of the top underclassman QB's in the state...than this is a wonderful get. Now it will be interesting to follow his Jr and Sr seasons.
-
Considering it was a one-time gift to be worn on "special occasions" I like them. Put the "Fear The Roo" patches on the shoulders and the tank patch on the front. I agree with some of the criticisms....black uniform should be navy...numbers don't match our numbers...but these look good enough to be used 1-2 games a year. Perhaps The ZipsNation faithful can all start a fund to make a donation for new uniforms. I'm in favor of anything new that makes this team look exciting and fresh.

I'd also like to point out in the Link that I provided, there is a chance for "group of 5" (which are non-power-five conferences) to be pitted against the lower rungs of bowl eligible power-five teams. Peach Bowl is two At-Large spots for exclusively Group of 5 teams Fiesta Bowl is an At-Large spot vs At-large Group of 5 team Cotton Bowl is an At-Large spot vs At-Large group of 5 team The ideal situation for the MAC would be to get a team into basically the Top-3 of the "Group of Five" teams, to fill a position at one of these three bowls. Had this been the situation with ranked NIU they probably would have stood a chance of winning the game because of a better match-up.

This is awesome!! Go Zips!!!

Unfortunately GP1 (as an educator) that plan of action would create another headline: "Akron coaches bully players" or "Bully Bowden" or some sort of nonsense like that. It's important to note: I completely agree with your POA GP1; however there's a hypersensitivity issue.
