  1. UPDATED: Added QB Caleb Chapman (I got word that he's been working out with the team all summer), Tra'von Chapman and Richard Dorvillus.
  2. What a horrible video report. Lots of obligatory "sadness" over the loss while not mentioning at why he was fired. Journalism is truly dead.
  3. Goodluck getting people to attend games at the JAR. I'm sorry if I have sounded very negative or debby-downer on this thread lately...but seriously, if we want this program to "Think Bigger" or be bigger, it'll need facilities greater than the JAR. Period. I know there are many here that are scared a new stadium would get as little turn-out as the JAR has...I'm worried about that too...but it's a losing battle to say "Bulid attendance the JAR then build a new arena". It's not going to happen. The JAR is embarrassing for D-I team to play in. The University of Dayton has a better basketball arena.
  4. The JAR is already embarrassingly small, that doesn't even get Embarrassingly) filled.
  5. ^^Technically...don't we as well?
  6. University of Akron Ticketmaster has the game listed as 8:00pm. (Which would be fantastic actually...I'm a big fan of night games). I looked it up by seeing the "upcoming events" and the season ticket games are listed there.
  7. And what direction would we head in? Every other direction seems just as disastrous.
  8. By what I'm apparently hearing from everyone...UA should never bother building a new arena, we'll never be able to afford it (apparently even if UA doesn't have to foot the bill of building the building itself). So enjoy the JAR. Enjoy the mediocre play in a sub-mediocre conference.
  9. I guess I come at it from this angle: We're maximizing what we can do with the tax increase, and they're all that important. Kill three birds with one stone. Two things we desperately need now, the third thing we desperately need to proceed with other downtown business ventures, that cannot develop until it is there. If we're never building anything new, creating anything new, attempting anything new, we'll never develop past where we are. If you're always fixing what's broken down in lieu of upgrading or building new, you're just waiting to fall apart.
  10. All you have to bring up is that UA is responsible for covering operating costs if the arena doesn't turn a profit...that pretty much nulls all the arguments against it.
  11. ESPN has him as a RB? Good get by Bowden and company.
  12. 100% agree with you BuckZip, that's what I've been trying to say.
  13. Team recruiting rankings are totally going to win over those recruits more than new uniforms and helmets.
  14. I do think more highly than 247 sports or Rivals. Especially when those rankings are based upon #'s of recruits. 2014 Zips' recruits were an upgrade in quality over those we had in 2013. That is how I measure success.
  15. ^^Rival's also doesn't take into consideration transfers (Akron has **** Se'von Pittman as part of the class)...or some grey shirts. It doesn't take into consideration need/upgrade at positions either. It simply evaluates on star raking and volume. Volume does not equal success. Star Ranking does not equal success. I mean Ianello "brought it" numbers...but none of them were quality. I'd rather have few, high quality and high retention probability recruits, over number of recruits any day of the week. All things considering, our recruiting class for 2014 was excellent. Those "Rivals Class Rankings" are total BS. According to that logic 2010's class Akron was Ranked #89...2009's #69...2008 #80...We haven't seen much success from those "higher ranked" classes we've had. Since Bowden's been here our classes have been ranked 120, 110, 111, Yet I've seen vast improvement in our team. "Recruiting rankings" mean absolutely nothing.
  16. I know everyone doesn't agree with me...but this game is THE single most important game of the season (Penn State). We've had all this chatter about logos, recruiting, building a program...etc...etc...but unlike our big games from the past two years, this one will be on national television AND local television (ABC). OSU won't be playing until 8:00pm, so some of the day football watchers may tune in for the game. We had a decent stand against Tennessee two seasons ago, almost beat Michigan last year (without a national audience). If we really want to get something to brand this new era of "Z"ips football around...we need to beat Penn State at Penn State. I absolutely believe this to be a winnable game, and I can't believe I'm saying that.
  17. From my understanding, most commitment reporting is secondary sources reporting what they found. Some sources don't even list the source we've confirmed. So it's difficult to say it's really just one commit. But it is a bit concerning to me that we haven't seen much buzz. Perhaps Bowden's got something cooking...
  18. You'll never make tradition if you keep changing your primary logos.
  19. I knew when they sent out the "survey" about branding, that it was geared to have the marketing shifted towards the "Z". I don't have a problem with having the Z present on some things...but c'mon marketing department...we're the A-KRON, ZIPS....the A-Roo represents the best parts of both our school name and Mascot. The Z is best as a secondary logo PERIOD>
  20. Charlie Frye...oh Charlie...I always felt like he got a raw deal. But so did a lot of QB's in the league. Unfortunately the greatest QB from Akron wasn't able to tranlate to the NFL.
