That would certainly be the best way to go. Elevate the MAC by elevating the level of play. That would get the MAC noticed on a national level and take it beyond being a one team NCAA tourney/Tuesday night football playing conference. In that process, it is just as important to elevate the teams at the bottom (which unfortunately right now includes Zips football) as those at the top.

As I understand it, the refs are independent contractors and work for specific assignors hired by the conferences. If conferences have a common assignor, they will have common refs.

Am I in love with the MAC? No. Is there a better fit out there right now for University of Akron Athletics? No.

Looking at that first team I wonder if the code has been cracked on Insincere after the way he finished the season. The Zips forced him to go left and trapped him over and over and he really struggled.

Well, it's Wednesday and there's no thread for Saturday's game, so here it is. I think that's a symptom of how beaten down we are at Zips fans and how apathy is kicking in for this season. That apathy seems to have spread to the Athletic Department as there's no publicity for what is the last Saturday home game of the year as we enter the exciting period of MAC Tuesday night football. Miami comes into Infocision at 3-5 and are 1-3 in the MAC, with a win over PCCC and losses to Buffalo, BG and Western Michigan. They had been chosen as #1 in the East in the MAC Preseason Media Poll.

I keep hearing about the injuries on the offensive line but this unit was bad when healthy. That has to be an emphasis in recruiting this year as you waste your skill position talent when your o-line is awful.

I like their schedule. Their OOC is: UA, Boise State, St. Bonaventure, Arkansas, Stephen F, Austin, Valpo, James Madison, PCCC, Alabama, Montana, E. Washington, Mount Marty and Bellevue. I have no idea who those last two are but the rest is fairly solid.

We're just a little more than 2 weeks out to the opening of the season and I'm just so damn ready for hoops to start that I thought I'd get the ball rolling with the game 1 thread. The reigning Summit League regular season and tournament champion Jackrabbits of South Dakota State come to the JAR to open the season on November 7th. SDSU was picked to finish second in the Summit League preseason poll (behind Oral Roberts). Last year, the Jackrabbits had the first undefeated regular season in Summit League history. THe Jackrabbits fell to Providence 66-57 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. Last year’s Summit League Sixth Man of the Year 6-8 Forward Luke Appel (11.1 ppg/4.2 rpg) is joined by 6-3 guard Zeke Mayo (10.6 ppg/2.7 rpg/2.1 apg) on the Summit League Preseason First Team.

I see that the KSU forum is referring to UA as Summit County Community College. I am personally offended having crafted "Portage County Community College" years ago. Low intellect copycats!

Yep, I think much of the frustration arises out of unrealistic expectations coming into the season. The Zips were one of the 5 worst teams in the FBS last season. Expectations of becoming bowl eligible or being near .500 were wildly unreasonable and put those with unreasonable expectations in the express line for disappointment.
