The Zips head to Ypsilanti Tuesday to face Stan Heath and his EMU Emonis. The Emonis stand at 6-18/3-8 heading into today's game at Toledo. As the season has worn on, the Eagles have been more competitive. They've clearly improved since their 37 point drubbing here when Bates scored a mere 3 points and spent an inordinate amount of time whining and sitting on the bench with a towel over his head. Even with that poor performance, Bates averages an impressive 21.4 ppg, pressing X for being the league's leading scorer. He also leads the team in rebounding at 5.5 rpg. The Eagle have been able to score the ball on occasion but have the MAC's worst defense. Here's hoping this is the game to bring the Zips out of their malaise.

That makes for an easy transition from Sammy.

We're in game 25 and still waiting on Sammy Hunter. He starts, but in reality he's slowly becoming Nate Johnson's backup.

44 points in a half? That's not Zips' defense.

That first half was one of Enrique's worst in some time. He just seemed to be out of sorts. It will be interesting to see how Ohio decides to defend him tonight.

He's a kid I'd have liked to keep closer to home!

I see AJ Brown hasn't played since the Akron game and their board. He had 15 points and 5 rebounds against the Zips in late January.

The Bobcats have a couple of freshmen that impressed me, AJ Brown and Elmore James (who played at Brush). I suspect Boals won't leave Wilson on an island guarding Enrique tonight again. Wilson is a very nice player, but his lack of lateral quickness hurts him on the defensive end.

Prather had a walking boot on his foot at Tuesday night's game.

Yikes. Down 31 points with 5 minutes left to a team that's 3-7 in the MAC.

The Zips head out to Athens Friday to face OU. It is a 7:30 game on the CBS Sports Network. The Zips beat the Bobcats by 6 at the JAR on 1/28. As you will recall, Enrique ate Dwight Wilson's lunch, scoring 32 points and pulling down 15 boards. OU scoring in that game was very balanced with 4 players scoring between 14 and 16 points. As you may recall, they were down 17 at half to the Zips and rallied to get the final deficit back to 6. OU currently stands at 13-11/5-6. They've won two in a row against Miami in Athens and at DeKalb. Wilson continues to lead scoring at 15.9 ppg while pulling down 9.7 rpg. They are third in the MAC in offense and 5th in defense.

I thought they were bad when Freeman was on the court and covering guys like Milliner. He and Hunter both suffered from having to guard smaller quicker players. They were getting blown by or giving cushion and closing out too slow on threes.

I guess I should have worn my cup. If I never have to see Enrique regularly guarding a guard on the perimeter, I will be content. The Zips seemed to be ill-prepared to deal with Toledo's 4 guard lineup. What an awfully officiated game. The refs were also awful for Toledo. So many missed calls mixed with calling tacky tack stuff. Toledo is a decent team but damn, that was winnable.

Enrique's worst game in a long while see so far.

Ugly half. Zips doing a lot of trapping on defense. Not quite sure why the Zips keep putting a big (Freeman and Lyles) on Milliner.

Lucky to still be in this one.

To make up for NWAkron, I am doubling my sense of dread for this one. As a conditioned NEO sports fan this one just feels like the perfect storm for a swift kick in the n*+$ coming off of the PCCC high.

They're going to shoot them from the t-shirt cannon. It could get ugly.
