  1. I try to reserve my "sky is falling" until about 1/3 into the MAC schedule!
  2. Best deal around. Another area school in the area that specializes in inappropriate pregame videos changes $170 for inferior basketball.
  3. I wonder what the reaction would be if Irons and Arselanian or Castaneda and Freeman got kicked out of a MAC Championship game after Coach Mo or Groce spent the entire game yelling at the refs.
  4. I think the real pressure is on Hankerson and Hunter to contribute offensively. I have confidence in Hankerson as he's done it before. If he gives the Zips the 11 ppg and 35% three point shooting he gave NIU last year, I will be content. For me, the jury is still out on Hunter and I wonder if the transition to sometimes being the only big on the floor is hampering him. I am encouraged by Groce's post game comments Monday that he's tearing it up in practice.
  5. Penn State Greater Allegheny is one of the best basketball teams in White Oak, Pennsylvania.
  6. It's not slander to question Tribble's shooting. His shortcomings there are obvious and you can see it in how he's defended. However, Greg has other attributes that make him a valuable player on this team and I think the great majority of the posters on here recognize and appreciate his talents. His defense, intensity and heart make him a vital contributor on this team.
  7. LZip is a big fan and a regular and valuable contributor. Would you like to enlighten us with the result of your homework (as opposed to just throwing out insults)?
  8. I think that John Groce recruits the best talent that he can bring to Akron, and that his primary qualification in doing so is that the player has the right attitude. There's no system model player as you can see between such different players as Clarke and Tribble. The effective commonality between effective Groce players is attitude and "team-ism", not similar system skill sets. He has every ability to adapt the system to his talent and has done so as that talent has changed during his tenure. If you don't have the right attitude and make it here, you don't last long, e.g. Cotton, wynn... As for recruiting bigs, they're just aren't that many to go around. The talented bigs end up at power 5 conference schools, not the mid-majors. I'm confident that Groce would love to have that big man from Mississippi State, but that type of kid is not coming to Akron. He did recruit bigs at Illinois where he had the program and conference to lure those kids. The bulk of talent available to programs like Akron are guards and wings and he is doing a fine job bringing those type of kids in.
  9. From everything I've read about the game, Bates was the best player on the floor.
  10. The Bears of Morgan State come into the JAR Tuesday night to face the Zips. The Bears were predicted to finish 4th in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Poll. 6-4 senior guard Malik Miller was named to All-MEAC second team. Last year, Miller led led Morgan State in scoring and rebounding (12.8 ppg, 8.8 rpg). 6-6 grad student David McCullough has been their second leading scorer thus far, averaging 17 ppg. The Bears also added transfer Khalil Turner, a 6-8 junior who averaged 14.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.9 blocks at Miami Dade College in Florida last season. The Bears are 1-1 going into today’s game against VCU, having lost to Xavier 96-73 and beaten Penn State Greater Allegheny 130-49.
  11. I was watching the Zips along with a high school football game last night so my eyes were not on every minute of the game. However, it was obvious to me early on that Mississippi State was bigger, faster and more athletic than the Zips. As such, I wasn't surprised or disappointed with the result. Anyone who has watched this team for more than five minutes and looked at the MAC preseason teams knows that the Zips primary interior threat is Enrique, primary shooting threat is X and that Tribble is not a shooter. Teams are going to double Enrique, run X off of the arc and sag off of Tribble to help. It's the job of Groce and staff to figure it out and it is on the other kids on the team to step up to take the pressure off of Enrique and X. Tribble is 21 years old, has been playing basketball for well over a decade and is in his 4th year of D1 basketball. His shooting is not going to improve at this point.
  12. Nice to see the kids on the bench so involved and supportive.
  13. Now there's a low bar!
  14. I just went to the google play store on my android tv and did a search for barstool. The app was well behind and choppy compared to the online.
  15. I just went to the site on my laptop and it is much better than through the app on my TV.
  16. The feed is a minute behind the actual game.
  17. This broadcast, from the jumpy screen to the obnoxious announcers to the out of sequence audio, is pretty damn awful.
  18. I think the bump in attendance was in large part due to the student attendance. They not only filled their regular section but helped fill in some of the ends quite a bit. The reserved season ticket seats were disappointingly empty. I too was quite impressed by how the team reacted to Tribble after the missed layup. That's TEAM-ISM.
  19. Greg Tribble's missed layup is #1 on the Not the Top 10 on ESPN SportsCenter this morning. Sigh. God bless the kid for getting back out there and pulling it out in OT! The kid has heart.
  20. There's also an android app. Hopefully, they'll be broadcasting it there.
  21. No, he's the freshman point guard from Chicago.
  22. I believe Tavari was in sweats against South Dakota State. Are we smelling a red shirt here?
  23. It is so nice to see the students in the JAR!
  24. I think we'll see more of Kobe and Lyles against the lesser competition. Last night was just a tough one to get the borderline rotation players on the floor.
  25. He showed some promise but he was lost on defense. He'll come around.
