  1. Getting the students into the lower bowl was a nice move. The courtside lounge is a flop. Those are at least indicators that those in charge are starting to think ahead. They need more of that.
  2. Here's hoping they are peaking too early. They've gone from 4-4 in the MAC with losses to CMU and NIU to 13-4.
  3. New/updated does not have to equate to large. Actually, in the MAC and mid-major settings, smaller and more intimate results in a home court advantage. I'd much prefer PCCC to come into a 4,000- 5,000 seat arena where the fans are close and breathing down their necks than into a half empty 10,000 seat arena or a place where the loyal GA fans are far away and separated by a glass rail and a freaking track. I recall many of the very same anti-arena arguments being made against Canal Park in the mid-90's. I think most would agree it has been a success. In any event, anything is going to have to come out of state monies. UA doesn't have it. The citizens won't support a tax. As a result, at best we're left to modifications to the JAR. Fortunately, a plain box should be relatively easy to work with. Also, according to Reghi the JAR is "historic and venerable", and we can't abandon a facility that is equal to the Palestra in Reghi's eyes.
  4. ...and great hair!
  5. The 18-9/11-6 Zips head off to Athens Friday to face the Bobcats. The Bobcats come into the game at 23-5/14-3 and are tied with Toledo at the top of the MAC. OU topped the Zips 69-63 at the JAR on January 4th. OU has 3 players in the top 15 scorers in the MAC (Sears- 19.7; Carter- 14; VanderPlas- 13.7). They are 6th the MAC in points per game and 3rd in point surrendered per game. With Akron as the top defensive team in the MAC, it should be a defensive slugfest.
  6. Huger calls a TO to draw up a 14 point play.
  7. Reghi wonders where the Zips would be without Freeman and Ali. Yikes. Yes, we can safely assume the Zips would be in a worse position without their leading scorer and leading rebounder.
  8. Has anyone ever gone more sideways in his MAC career than Trey Diggs?
  9. Al is now 1 for 9 from 3. We don't need Trimble!
  10. Clarke should give his superfluous E to Wynn to help GT. It would also have the benefit of spelling CLARK correctly.
  11. Reghi needs to learn that sometimes you should let the game speak for itself.
  12. Now step on it and finish.
  13. Letting a struggling team stick around. Sigh.
  14. Ali 1 for 8 from 3? Damn man, go to the hoop.
  15. You'd think he was getting paid by the word.
  16. Somebody needs to tell Reghi these teams played each other earlier in the year.
  17. Some awful possessions to start.
  18. Wynn earned his seat on the bench. He nearly earned the end of his season. To his credit and due to circumstances he's now playing his way back in. A little effort and a good attitude goes a long way.
  19. Words never previously spoken. We need to memorialize this.
  20. Let's be frank. As a MAC coach can should you really do anything other than follow that very plan given the inescapable conclusion that the MAC is a one bid NCAA tournament conference regardless of anything that happens in the regular season.
  21. He reminds me a little of Malcolm Duvivier, a guy who played the point but was more of a combo guard who could sometimes be better when not forced to be the primary ballhandler.
  22. I wouldn't give him that much credit. When Groce came in Utomi and they were thin Utomi was often forced to play out of position on defense in the post and worked damn hard at it. I've never seen Trimble make that kind of effort.
  23. This Trimble situation all adds up to what I predicted would happen if he got demoted. That being said, I don't think it is a huge loss given how he's played this year. I'm sure there's a community college near his hometown that would be happy to have him. I wonder if some of these kids ever look back after it is all over and question their youthful decision making or whether their arrogance keeps them from doing so for the rest of their lives.
