When the time comes, and who knows when the hell that will be, the AD and committee will find someone that checks all of their boxes and that will enthuse a majority of the fans. A significant portion of the fanbase will then bitch that the program isn't improving fast enough while others will continue to lament TB being moved along. Bring us someone young with some energy and enthusiasm that can talk MAC level talent into coming to Akron and I'll be happy. Show improvement every year. I don't need bowl eligibility in year one or two but there better be some progression of improvement with time.

I don't think NEO should be overemphasized in recruiting at the expense of losing in other areas but there's so much talent that they have to give it attention to try to keep some of that talent here. Also, you may not get that kid the first time through but if you put the school in his head and make a good impression it may come back to you when that kid doesn't make at hsi first choice and decides to enter the transfer portal.

Whoever it is has to have, or be able to build, some credibility with the area high school coaches. I don't expect them to bring in the Parris Campbells of the area but there should be no kid under consideration of a MAC school that the Zips aren't in the ear of. Also, until he gets the program up to speed he needs to use the transfer portal, graduate transfers and jucos as much as possible. On a smaller scale, Groce did this on the basketball side to get things up and running quickly. Also, he needs to have the connections and or personality to get some decent assistants here.

The Zips were #125/130 and lost by 17 points to #126. #127 New Mexico State lost by only 6 to San Jose State. #128 UNLV last by only seven to unbeaten USTA. #129 UMass got killed by Toledo. #130 UConn lost by 2 to Vandy. UConn and UMass play next week. The Zips will be at #129 or #130 soon. These are the CBS rankings. A similarly situated program and one that embarrassingly lost to this team las year, BG, had a defining win at Minnesota last week and were competitive against PCCC in the MAC opener yesterday. They hired a guy nearly a month ahead of Arth who was a D1 OC at Auburn, Virginia Tech and Boston College. He cleaned out some of the bad character in the program, suffered a couple of years, used the transfer portal and it now up and running and making progress with the program.

My first recollection of Tom Arth was seeing him at QB for Ignatius in the 1998 state semi-final at PCCC against McKinley. On the last play he threw a Hail Mary that was caught by the Iggy receiver at the 1 yard line and future Buckeye/NFL player Mike Doss knocked the receiver out of bounds at the half yard line as the clock expired. 23 year later, here we are. I wonder if Mike Doss is available.

The Zips haven't had a head coach with a winning percentage over .500 since Dennison. This is a long term institutional problem not a problem only manifested through the Arth and Bowden fiascos. Most schools in UA's position have had coaches do well enough to move on to a bigger program. All of ours have sucked so bad they've been moved along.

Dre, I don't remember anybody banging the drum for Arth. I remember people hoping to hell it would work out. Do I not recall you also telling us Groce was a crap hire? I'm going to call every hire henceforth a crap hire and be right 50% of the time. That will give me license to come back in 3 years and tell everyone how right I was. I will give you credit for admitting you were wrong on Groce. Not everyone mans up and does that.

Nor did I in that comment. That was just a comment on the level of talent they have on the field. I would though say that the talent on the field is substandard and that comes back to the staff as it reflects on their assessment of talent and ability to recruit.
