  1. The Zips head to Dayton Wednesday night to face 2-6 Wright State. Wright State's only wins came against Lake Erie and Purdue Fort Wayne. The Raiders (who oddly have a dog looking mascot) were predicted to finish second in the Horizon pre-season poll. 6-6 junior guard Tanner Holden leads scoring at 19.8 ppg. 6-9 redshirt junior forward Basile Grant scores 18.8 ppg while leading the team in rebounds at 9.1 rpg. Basile was selected to the pre-season All-Horizon first team. Last season, he was an All-Horizon League Second Team honoree, averaging 15.0 points on a League-best 61.7 percent shooting, grabbed over seven boards a game and led the HL with 1.63 blocks per contest. The Raiders fell to Marshall by 8 early in the season.
  2. Yikes, was that awful. That's the kind of effort that leads to a double digit loss to a Michigan directional. Glad it is behind us.
  3. I don't think I've seen a guy commit two lane violations while shooting foul shots in the same game, ever. Enrique Freeman wins that distinction
  4. I thought Wynn might make his way in with Walton's departure but I guess not.
  5. Zips are equal opportunity ugly today. They are sucking on both ends of the floor.
  6. Zips go to zone.
  7. Let them back in the game.
  8. Zips have gotten sloppy the last 8 minutes.
  9. Small but vocal group of students today.
  10. Aziz with a nice series. Block on one end, and 1 on the other.
  11. Zips hot from distance. Hope they don't fall in love with it. Crowd (all 4 of us) is electric ⚡.
  12. I can remember listening to Carman and his buddies on the old UA radio station years ago.
  13. Well stated. I miss the days of committed coaches and 4 year players. That being said, this is the current state of college athletics with transient coaches and athletes. As for the portal, I tend to like it when good players come to the team I am rooting for and don't like it when they leave!
  14. That convincing becomes easier when they sit for a year or two and come to the realization that they're never going to be "the guy" at their P5. That's the beauty of the portal. It's much easier to convince that 20 year old after he figures out that he's not the end all be all than it is to convince the same kid at 17 or 18 when he's been the top guy in his geographic area and had smoke blown up his keester for 2 or 3 years by all those around him.
  15. Towson then went on to Columbus and gave them a run for their money so maybe Garrettsville A & T's loss wasn't as awful as it looks.
  16. Other than he'll actually get to claim them.
  17. Moorhead taking less money and lining up incentives is also an indicator of his confidence they will be successful.
  18. Incentive 1- if clarkwgriswold can get past 2 minutes of your pressers- $100K.
  19. Less money plus a new alimony payment each month!
  20. Much...ummmm....more....ya' know.....well spoken than his predecessor.
  21. I'm a little conflicted on this one. I want him hitting the ground with his feet running for the Zips and don't like that being potentially pushed back. On the other hand I like his sense of commitment. Hopefully, he can strike a happy medium and do both jobs.
  22. I think they both fall into the description Groce gave of Dawson in the post-game last week as an example to younger kids of how you can earn minutes in ways other than scoring. I think they're more relied on to be productive through things like defense, rebounds and getting on the floor for loose balls than they'll ever be relied on for scoring and when they can contribute with offense like they have recently it will be a real bonus. If I had to pick two guys to accompany me into a fight from that squad, those would be those two gritty guys.
  23. Tribble and Dawson are clearly the guys earning time through effort.
  24. I like how Groce essentially characterized the Florida trip as a positive in that it exposed their weaknesses, showed them what they had to work on and brought some humility.
