  1. Looks like they finally got an A10 win, over St. Bonaventure, on Tuesday.
  2. That's my hope too. His 3 point percentage in his last full season was .360. Hopefully, he has a run in him to get him back there.
  3. I'm starting to worry a little about Dawson and his shooting. I love his grit and effort, but if you take out his 3/5 and 4/7 shooting on threes against Ball State and BG, he's 4 of 23 on threes in MAC play. Remarkably, 35 of his 37 shots in MAC play have been threes. 104 of his 123 shots on the season have been threes. I'd really like to see him pass one up here or there or shorten up his shot/penetrate. I'm having Trimble flashbacks.
  4. I can hear the M-V-P chants all the way from Brimfield.
  5. Another good Beacon article- https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2024/01/24/university-of-akron-zips-basketball-score-ohio-enrique-freeman-rebounds-greg-tribble-shammah-scott/72320581007/
  6. Last night's attendance gave us the answer to fill the JAR in 3 simple words- HALFTIME SALSA DANCERS.
  7. The Zips head off to Oxford this weekend to face 9-10 Miami in a Saturday 1:00 game. The Redhawks are 3-4 in the MAC with wins over Ball State, EMU and Buffalo and losses to CMU, BG, Toledo and WMU. This will be the second year in a row that Groce and Steel’s mom will be spared her sons having to face off twice in the regular season. 6’8” 305 pound senior forward and former UA recruiting target Anderson Mirambeaux (affectionately referred to on Ohio U’s Bobcat Attack as the “fat guy”) leads the Redhawks in scoring at 13.8 ppg. 6’5” win Darweshi Hunter is second in scoring at 12.6 ppg. Miami is 9th in offense and 5th in defense in the MAC.
  8. Really balanced on offense tonight which was nice to see. It wasn't the prettiest win but I'm not giving it back!
  9. Ohio U is as solid of a defensive team as we've seen since At. Bonaventure. Very good at doubling the post then getting back to the perimeter.
  10. Time for a Zips run.
  11. Elmore James just shoulder bumped Shammah leaving the court. Shammah said something equally polite to him in response.
  12. Letting them back into the game.
  13. So far Shammah was the only one ready to catch and shoot.
  14. They are running the double team at Enrique whenever he puts the ball on the floor. Lots of opportunities for open threes tonight.
  15. ... And starting.
  16. Tribble in uniform and warming up.
  17. They also offered some of us unwashed an opportunity to move down into the lower bowl tonight with the privileged folks. I turned it down when they said I couldn't sit behind NWAkron with my vuvuzela.
  18. Maybe Omega Upsilon Delta Sigma can win the Greek Night Philanthropy donation! @NWAkron and @csims0917 can rally the members.
  19. I guess a postseason tournament is a chance for the team to get more time on the floor together against solid competition and being selected to the NIT would be nice, but at the same time I have a hard time getting very enthused with a tournament for 69th place.
  20. 5 hour and 45 minute road trip!
  21. Freeman graduated from St. Martin de Porres High School, a very small Catholic co-ed high school located in the St. Clair-Superior neighborhood of Cleveland. He was 6'4" and played in the Lake Effect Conference, a small team conference that gets little attention. He averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4.5 assists, which also failed to draw attention. He went to UA in the fall of 2018 on an academic scholarship and at the urging of his mother attended an open tryout in the fall of 2019 that landed him a spot on the team. In the 19-20 season, he rarely saw the floor, playing in seven games, scoring five points and grabbing four rebounds.
  22. When they played at SVSM, I got the sense from watching them that they had some talent but that the talent and personalities weren't meshing well.
  23. We're 16 games into a new coach's tenure. 16. It's a little premature to come to any conclusions
  24. Duquesne is currently 10th in scoring and 9th in average points surrendered in the A10. Dae Dae Grant and Jimmy Clark are both in the top 10 in scoring in the league (3rd and 9th). Their best rebounder (Drame) is 21st in the conference and are 9th in team rebounding. That all adds up to 0-5 in the conference.
