  1. Come on guys. I thought the Zips were pretty well represented. Sure OSU took some of our fans away. I wish they would have taken more, (eg. the idiots who wore OSU shirts to our game). But I couldn't believe how poorly represented Indiana was. THEY'RE the big ten team and they brought very few fans. I thought the home side was pretty full but the visitor side was way too empty. I hope the MAC schools are better represented.
  2. Someone said that Reggie Corner would get some playing time today but I couldn't get the game. Did he play? How did he do?
  3. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/preview?game...6&confId=15 We can win this game. I just hope the guys BELIEVE!
  4. I just thought of something else I wanted to say. I LOVED when the running game was slowing down and they put in the double backs: Tuzze and DK. They're an awesome combo and I would like to see them in together more often especially in short yardage situations. There is no reason EVER for us not to be able to pound out a first down. Our line is great and an additional blocker should assure us of a first down every time. Pass whenever you want but always get the first down to keep the drive alive! I hate when we get in the red zone, have 3 incomplete passes, and then kick the field goal. Go for the first down then worry about the TD.
  5. Zips up 33-23. Weird score, huh? 3:00 left in the 3rd.
  6. Akron is up 26-16 with 7:50 left in the third.
  7. Anyone else feeling a little lost without a Zips game to watch?
  8. I wonder if DK took my advice and drank dill pickle juice before the game?????? If he did and it worked I think we should get busy and send the athletic department several cases of pickles because he played like superman or maybe like Popeye and the pickles were his spinach. Remember the earlier chant, "Kennedy for President!!!!" Great job!
  9. I remember when a student of mine beat out another of my students for linebacker on our hs team. After congratulating him I said, I'm glad you got the position but truthfully I didn't think it was fair because the other team never really ran the ball at him during the scrimmage so he couldn't show what he could do. The winning student replied, "but it's my job to read the offense and put myself in a position to make the play and be where the ball is. Maybe our guys just aren't reading the offense and calling the checks that need to be called to put themselves in position to make the play.
  10. I am soooo sick of you guys calling for Torrence. He's totally unproven and new to the system. Last year you wanted Brinson and we see how that turned out. Go with the guys who are there week in and week out, practicing hard and committing to the Akron system. I'm sure you're sick of hearing me screaming for Tuzze. But come on, one carry for 11 yds and then we don't see him the rest of the game????? Last week 4 carries for 21 yds. and a pass for 8. I'm not saying to make him the primary back but mix it up a little bit. Run double backs sometimes. The offensive line was having a tough time so put him in to provide some extra protection for Jacq. I like Bruce but he can't do it all. Will BWill never return a punt?? They've got Bruce doing everything and a few of you didn't even want to see him at receiver a couple of games ago. I think Moorehead wants to see us fail. Maybe he thinks he'll get the job if Brookhart goes down. I think the Can't game was the poorest use of personnel that I've seen this season. It seems to be getting worse instead of better. We get our defense looking better and the offense leaves them on the field for the rest of the game. Come on! My grandma could call a better game--from the grave. And are the pass plays that are being called leaving our receivers out to dry??? I think JD needs to have a real heart to heart with Moorehead. Whatever the game plan was for Sat----it sucked! I hear Johnson will be back this week. Don't kill him! Rotate different guys in. Keep them fresh and keep BG guessing. We've got the talent to win this! Use it!
  11. Someone tell DK to drink some dill pickle juice. It's an old fashioned cure for leg cramps. If it's just an old wives tale, so what, it can't hurt. I think it's something about the salt in the pickle brine that does the trick. I used it myself in my former swim team days. lol
  12. I hear Andrew Johnson is out of the hospital and should be fine. I don't know if he'll be able to play or practice. Devoe has a lot of learning to do to be ready to play. While the pitch and "hot potato" play to Pride about gave me a heart attack, I think he'll be in the game. I am happy with Tuzze getting to carry the ball. I about cried when they tried to pass on 3rd and 1 when he has been consistently able to get the yards we need. While I am often upset with the play calling I thought it was pretty good this week. Refs fault or not we have to cut down the penalties. Come on guys, ya can't blame the coaches for everything. After losing a game we could have easily won I hope the players are hungry and go out and pummel Can't.
  13. A few thoughts: 1) These redzone statistics don't really tell the whole story. I want to know. Do we pass more than run when we're in the red zone? Say, throw three passes that are incomplete and then kick the field goal. I guess I need to look at the drive chart to make that determination. 2) I know that Bruce has had some drops lately but he was stellar against Syracuse. I liked how he could get yards after catching the ball. 3) I hope Poindexter gets over his drops. He is a guy who needs to step it up this Sat. 4) I want to see our guys HIT. It seems like they are too gentle. Maybe they hit too much during camp and injured too many of our own players and now they're playing soft. I've always thought that when someone goes up in the air with his arms above his head to make a catch you HIT him. The next time he may hear footsteps and be a little more hesitant to make that catch. (please note that I'm not talking anything dirty just good old hitting) And no arm tackles! Hit them, take them to the ground! Good basic tackling. 5) Just like the defense needs to hit, our runners need to slam through that line. I want to see stiff arms to the defenders and guys getting run over. Break some tackles. Unlike many college football fans I'm not in love with the speed. I want to see smash mouth football. 6) Don't stop blocking until you hear the whistle. Keep running down field and HIT someone. Don't look back. Don't collect 200 dollars. Go down field and (you got it) HIT someone! 7) I think sometimes I'm more fired up than the players. For most of the players on the team these college years are their last years on the field. Get excited! Show some spirit! Get pumped up! Maybe college football is becoming too much of a business and not about pride and loyalty. I can hardly wait for the Saturday games. I don't want to feel like "what if?" when I walk away from the stadium. And I think all of us want the coaches and players to think, "have I done everything I can do?"
  14. I believe that we get too conservative in our play calling in the third quarter. If we have a close game or a lead we play it safe. I hate it! Play to win EVERY down. I would also like to see redzone statistics. It seems like we go to the pass, have 3 incompletions and then kick the field goal (or try to). It is a game of downs. Get the first down no matter how close to the endzone. Don't always go for the gold. I know everyone talks about Getsy and Fry but I remember seeing a lot of incompletes, sacks, run around so you're not sacked, complete a pass for a first down or TD. Even then it seemed like we never "worked" our way down the field with a balanced running and passing attack. This year we have been able to hammer the ball in from within the 5 yd. line with the fullback leading the blocking. Why don't we do that out in the middle of the field when we need a couple of yards for the first down??
  15. Dante Love was just taken out on a stretcher. Ya hate to see that in any game. Hopefully it's just a stinger. It was a helmet to helmet hit.
  16. Notice anything different on defense????? These announcers stink! They think Moorehead is Brookhart and they keep getting our players mixed up.
  17. Some of you guys are gonna be very happy this weekend
  18. Ok, here's MY campaign.Dear Coach Moorhead, 1) Please don't abandon the running game. Even with the "golden boy" hurt you still have many good backs. At Syracuse when we were able to run the ball there was less pressure on Jac. If your 90th run up the middle doesn't work put in your fullback (who no longer exists apparently) to block. Tuzze was the #2 back after camp and now we never see him. I know he was hurt but he's back. (and no I'm not related to him) Army probably doesn't plan on seeing him either. 2) Find your tight end! (hmm, that sounds weird) Was Poindexter even at the BS game??? 3) Throw out of the backfield. I loved the play with Bruce catching some passes out of the backfield. How about a double back set where you throw to your rb or (heaven forbid) the fb? 4) Don't we ever sub during a series? It's like ok---Johnson is in for this series---it's his TURN. MIX IT UP! Keep them guessing. 5) Does Jac have broken legs that HE can't run the ball once in a while? I even saw Sanchez block on one play in a game not to be mentioned. Imagine that, a quarterback who is expected to do something besides hand off or drop back and pass.Dear Coach Fleming, 1) You know we're banged up on defense--sub, sub, sub. Keep these guys as fresh as you can. Play them all! Hell, some people are calling for you to put in one of the cheerleaders but I think that's taking it a little too far. 2) If you need guys on defense--keep them there. We have enough weapons on offense to get the job done and we're not as injured there. 3) Find a leader even if it has to be a walk-on. (that's for you buckZIP) 4) Just because we're in love with the pass don't think all the teams we play are. Protect against the run!Ok, now I feel better.
  19. The two quarterback system last year divided the team; some wanted one and others wanted the other. With a clear starter this year there is more cohesion among the players. The chemistry seems great! I'm even hopeful that there will be no disciplinary benchings this year. While I think the play calling has been much better, I thought it was horrible in the third quarter. Maybe all the runs up the middle were setting up the passes in the forth quarter. I hope we weren't just sitting on our lead. I don't like it when we get conservative. We need to play full out every minute. I was screaming for a pass to Poindexter. I have to admit it came at a great time but only one throw to a tight-end, captain, and great athlete is not enough. (I think he's a captain?)I also worry about a let down this week. The guys are probably saying, "ha-ha, we're not as bad as people thought." I have always believed that this team has the potential to be great because they play as a team and there are no superstars. After two games we're definitely seeing some stars emerge but I hope they keep their heads on straight and realize that we haven't won anything yet. If we can keep getting better, get healthy, and keep our heads together we can..... I won't even say it. One game at a time. Beat Ball State!
  20. Thought you might like this if you did not travel to the game.
