  1. With the new dorms, etc how many students actually reside on campus? I would guess that it's up by quite a few. I know enrollment is up but I wonder how far we've come from the commuter school of the past.
  2. How about the Ventures' Wipe Out? I choreographed a routine to that for my cheerleading squad ages ago. It's a great percussion song and has real nice 8 cts. Example: fans put hands up and run in place for a count of 8 and then do a 1/4 turn left and repeat 8 cts and then another 1/4 turn etc. Why not something that's our own? Let's start our own tradition. I'm afraid if we did the jumpy thing from Wisconsin the rubber bowl would implode! lol
  3. Did they break up part of Nash street already or is it just covered with dirt?
  4. Maybe we need to all meet at the construction site some night, "borrow" some heavy equipment, and accidentally tear down the plasma center! As fast as these houses came down we could be in and out before anyone noticed!
  5. Johnson was hurt. Williams wanted to go to DB.
  6. Maybe Williams wanted to play defense and has the ability and talent to insist on it!?!
  7. I have heard that it is true that Williams is switching to defense. Spring ball is tough this year with snow days and spring break right in the middle. I hope we get to see something on April 5th but I'm not sure how "together" the team will be by then.
  8. "It's shame that Ben Mauk from Cincinnati wasn't granted another year of eligibility. Watched him in high school down at Paul Brown w/ Kenston and would have loved to see him play in person again."I got in an argument with the guys at work today when they said that he was granted another year of eligibility. I hope I don't end up with egg on my face since I got my info from this quote. Anyone have anything definitive??
  9. BG plays at Boise State AND at Wyoming! Oh Dear! But their schedule looks way easier than ours!
  10. I like this schedule because I think I can actually get to all the games because the weekday games are home and the away games are on the weekends. Oh course, Wisconsin could be tough but maybe I'll have to go visit my brother!!! Although, how far away is Temple?
  11. Hey guys, why hasn't the one little building been knocked down? Are they using it as a trailer for the workers? I wouldn't think so 'cause the windows look like they're boarded up. I think it was an administration building for the apartments but I don't really remember. Any one have the scoop?
  12. What a nice thing for him to do. I'm happy for him and the success that he has had. I hope he continues with his education and is able to contribute not just to pro-football but to society in general. Way to go!
  13. I'm sorry. What happened to @ Kentucky on Sept. 13th? They've got us on their schedule for that date. That starts our season with 4 away games!
  14. I see a big hole!! I can't believe they're working with all this snow. Cool!
  15. " Jim Tressel keeping his offensive scheme very close to the vest."
  16. Spring break two weeks before the spring game seems weird. I'm sure all our guys will continue to run, lift, and workout during that week
  17. Spring game---April 5th.
  18. My father owns several businesses and I know that govt. intrusion is alive and well. They say "no taxation without representation" but they are able to raise "fees" for licenses etc. at their discretion. Businesses enjoy tax write offs that the common person does not but when it comes to a liquor or food license you are at their mercy. However, the rent that most landlords get for the shacks they rent to college students is way above the level that landlords in other areas can charge. Supply and demand dictates what rent can be charged and the proximity to the university raises the amount that can be charged and still be competitive. Any business is a gamble but many of these houses have been providing landlords with good profits for years. Otherwise, why would so many ppl. invest in multiple properties? And now these ppl. will sell their rentals, businesses at great profit. I don't get what there is to complain about. If the university were just to take these properties without fair compensation it would be different but the owners stand to make a huge profit. My personal home is a palace compared to the rentals near the university but would not command the price that these owners are receiving. Hmmm, maybe they'll pay me a half a million and put the stadium in my backyard!!!!! Even a quarter of a million would do just fine!!
  19. In the town where I live it got out that the Board of Education wanted to build the new high school downtown. Amazingly many of the homes on that site were suddenly owned by board members or family members of the board. They thought they hit the jackpot and were going to be paid big bucks for those homes and buildings. Thankfully the town voted it down and the new school was built outside the downtown area. Justice was served!
  20. I went into Joe's Sun Bar. We were meeting about 15 ppl and had to call everyone and tell them we moved across the street. I loved the look of the big, old bar and the spaciousness of the place but they acted like they had no clue that Akron had an away game that day. Anyone on ZN knows that everyone is always looking for a place to go watch the away games. We need a place where we can wear all our Zips gear. Where we can go before and after the home games and see the away games. We need a place to celebrate our victories and cry in our beer, mixed drink, etc when we lose and where we don't have to fight to get the TV station changed from the OSU game to the Akron game. From the posts during the fall I know I'm not the only one looking for a good place to eat and drink and meet other Zip fans.
  21. If you look on the other side of Exchange street there are dozens of buildings that need renovated. These businesses should have worked with the university and the city of Akron to acquire those buildings and then use the money they receive to renovate. They have to know how much of their business depends on UoA students and that their businesses will only take off more when the new stadium is in place. Their shops could have been open and ready for the Kentucky game. The money spent on lawyers could be spent on moving, parking, etc. The writing was on the wall but instead of embracing change they dug their heels in and decided to fight. I would have loved to see one of the holdouts in the plasma center and that whole corner cleaned up. I would be more sympathetic but I went to one of those establishments this year to watch an Akron game. The place was filthy, no food, no people, and they didn't even have the game on. I ended up at BWs.
  22. I think it's funny that you mention the trees. My son just gave me a call to say they are marked to be cut down. I have a favorite that I haven't been able to identify and he wants to dig one up for me. Hmmm, warmer weather this week, I wonder if he can do it.
  23. I don't get why they board up the houses. I wonder if there are ppl who will strip those houses. I've never been in them but since they're old you'd think that there would be things of value in them: old claw foot tubs, wood balastrades (sorry, I don't know how to spell that), copper piping, plumbing and lighting fixtures, cornices, etc. I hate seeing old materials just ripped apart and sent to the land fill. But of course, if that would slow down progress on the stadium-----bulldoze them!!!!!
  24. Every time the ABJ calls for me to subscribe to their paper I respond that I will not until they start to cover U of A athletics better and write more about the university in general. I'm definitely going out to get a copy of this article. Heck, maybe I'll even buy a few. They have until August to prove to me that my money for a subscription will be money well spent.
