I wanna see a pass to Poindexter!!
-
Last year you had quite a few unsavory things to say about walk-ons too!
-
Hey Buckzip, I am continually amazed at your disdain for walk-ons. Google "walk-ons" and see what a great contribution they have made to many football programs across the nation. There are many reasons a player is not awarded a scholarship. He may have had an serious injury in HS and they don't want to gamble a scholarship. He may have chosen the wrong school for him and need to transfer and work his way into a scholarship. Even your Jim Tressel has a soft spot for walk-ons. They bring a desire and motivation to practice that many of the other players don't have. I cheer for the walk-ons. They play for the love of the game and they do it while spending their own money for their education. You act like recruiting is a finite science when in reality it is often hit or miss. That walk-on may be playing because the highly recruited player got too big for his britches and didn't take care of business on the field or in the classroom. Being a walk-on is much more demanding than having a free ride so I salute Tyler Campbell and any others like him who have gone that road.

"look...its not just today that the D gave up big yards on the ground...its been that way for several years now...if wisc. gets 400+, teams like cant,ou,temple...will surely get 150 to 200...no good...if as some say the players are better then its the scheme and the coaching...on the brighter side the receivers weren't bad...Johnson and Allen should put Kennedy on the bench where he belongs...CJ?...not convinced yet..."I agree that Johnson is a great back but I would never choose Allen over Kenndey. A back also has to be able to block and Allen was often just standing there as if he had nothing better to do. His penalty on the kickoff was inexcusable. I thought we moved the ball well when Tuzze was in and then we didn't see him in the second half.

I'm back from the Brewing Company. It was really nice! I especially liked when the OSU fans were begging them to turn on the audio to their game so they could find out what was going on with Wells. They didn't! What were you guys expecting from the defense? We're missing at least two major players. (I hear Bain won't be back until we start MAC play.) I thought the "D" was doing fine until we got that stupid penalty on the kick off return. It went downhill pretty fast after that. Our defense stopped them twice in the first half and held them to a field goal once BUT Hill is one of the top RBs in the country. The negativity on this board drives me nuts. I was pretty stoked when we were only down by one TD at the half. If we could have started the second half drive at the 40 we could have tied it up. I know it sounds like excuses but I think we have a better team than everyone thinks. Signed, A ZIP 'TIL THE BITTER END

Sorry. I didn't know how to move my post.
-
So where are we going to watch it?
-
What games did you watch? I think it was more like pass, incomplete, pass, incomplete, pass, almost intercepted, punt. Oh, maybe a sack in there somewhere.
-
I wanted to move this to the top because I definitely want to be a part of any "watch" party and hope that if anyone finds out anything they'll post it right away.
-
Why play the season at all if it's gonna be so dismal? Hell, let's throw in the towel now and eliminate the team and fire the coaches. Maybe the new stadium can be used for something else. If this is a Zips' support network then we're in trouble. Some of the guys on the team do read your postings. And I'm sure they're just so excited to go out and kick some butt after reading the great backing that they're getting from their true fans. Ya know that old saying, "if ya don't have something nice to say then shut the hell up."
-
If ya don't mind watching it alone in your computer room on a 3 by 3 inch screen you can watch it on gozips, for a fee of course.
-
And they still haven't mentioned U of A!
-
I am all for giving these guys a second chance but I think they need to prove themselves first by spending at least a semester on the team as a non-scholarship athlete. That way they are motivated to go to class and get the grades to "earn" a chance to wear the jersey and represent the school. There should be many resources available to them like study table and tutors. We continue to lose scholarships by having players not meet the NCAA standards and they end up being ineligible. No matter what their 40 time is they are of no use to us and actually cost us in scholarship money. College athletes spend a tremendous amount of time at practice, on the road to games, and in meetings, films, and treatment. They need to be masters of time management to be able to handle their school work and their team responsibilities. If a kid does not show the desire to meet these standards then I say let him go somewhere else.
-
I too enjoyed the meet the team. The young men could not have been nicer. I'm worried about Bain. I heard he needs an MRI on his foot. It seems like many guys were in air casts or limping. I guess that's why girls don't play the game. lol I sure hope there are no serious injuries. If we can put a healthy team on the field I think we'll have a real good season.
-
It looks like we just added some more depth with another running back. See gozips.

Meet the Team is next Sunday. Check gozips for details.

It's officially one week until the start of camp. At least this year there's not as many surprises (like Harvey last year). I think some fans are running scared because we don't have any big names. What we do have is a bunch of guys who are team players and fewer guys who think the rules don't apply to them. From what I understand attendance at summer lifting and conditioning has been good. The players are academically sound. There are many positions up for grabs and lots of guys who want to step into them and claim them. While this probably scares the h.. out of many, it excites me. I think we're underrated. Last year many argued that we can't win without the big talent players. They disputed the dismissal of players who were a disruption to the team, were in trouble with academics, or who didn't follow team rules. I expect this team to be a much more dedicated group of guys and to pull together to maybe win some of the close games. There was a pretty funny post about one of the guys from last year not having "heart." This year I hope we see a lot more heart, out of our players and our coaches.

I'm a 2 degree Akron alum and in all these years I've never been sent any literature to buy tickets. The only thing I ever get is requests for donations for students scholarships. You'd think I'd get something every year especially around homecoming-- a big picnic or something. The gathering at the Army game was really nice.

Go Zips has announced the times for the home games. Check it out.

Lots of activity today in both cams!!!!
-
Do ya know what the erection is a part of?
-
I think there's a crane there today. Or at least I didn't notice it before. And they're going vertical!!! Maybe someone stole camera C! lol

I think they should have a huge countdown billboard too but not say what it's for. Let people wonder and try to figure it out. It could flush the countdown in yrs., then months, then days, then minutes, then seconds. Maybe do a take off of FEAR THE ROO. Like "Fear it! It's coming!" "Change happens!" "This TOWN will never be the same!" "Roo the day." Have the clues get closer and closer to giving the meaning of the billboard away. Don't give it to them all at once. Build some anticipation.

Wow, almost 4:00 on a Friday and they've got the cement truck there pouring cement! I know nothing about major construction so I'm amazed that they can build this in parts and pieces and have it all line up correctly when the pieces get connected together. I have a hard time hanging two pictures evenly! I'm excited now. I'll be beside myself as the place really starts to go up!
