You and students like you can make a change for the better. Stand up to the typical "Akron U crap". It has been done before. You have more power than you think and there are alumni who will back you. Also, you have a university president who gives students like you more credit than any UA president in the past. Strike while the iron is hot!
-
Of course you are. You were out of the conversation before it began.
-
What makes you so sure that you don't have to put up or shut up? There are people at UA who are already aware of this reality and doing something about it is in their ball park. As far as you are concerned, you are part of the problem since all you do is shoot your mouth off and not be part of the solution. Your hostility is a confession and certainly not a defense you little unproductive troll. It is obvious that you look for any opportunity to be disagreeable instead of disagreeing for the purpose of being part of a solution. Since you come off as a slow learner, again please read at your leisure: http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?ac...mp;f=2&id=5

LeBron James donating $1 million to to renovate gym
pat replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
ask skip zip. I never bashed LeBron nor St.V's gymnasium. I just don't think it shows class for a high school gym to call itself an arena. To do so is grandiose and cheese ball! -
You sound like the type of student UA needs more of. Too bad you are graduating... not for you of course. I find that current "student leaders" are still mostly little naive children who will eat anything handed to them by administration. Empowerment is no where in their vocabulary and it shows to the public... ergo the brunt of jokes around and in other communities.

I agree with you 100%. Great concept. Let's hope eventually the execution of it is equally great. Seems like they had more credibility when the University was at the helm.

Riveting. -
I liked Owl City but a lot of people did not chose to watch for obvious reasons. UA has yet to come into the 20th century, let alone the 21st. They still don't get it when it comes to thinking big. They think small potatoes and are afraid of bigness at UA. Their student and non-student leaders still like to wallow in the problem instead of being about solutions. It remains a can't do/won't do campus with too many self-serving administrators who love to give students snow jobs instead of honest guidance in order to protect their collective asses. It is a reality that I hate to admit but is so very true. Let's hope for better outcomes in the days ahead. Hey, Jim Tressel, where are the funds to build our new arena...come on buddy...chop chop!

Believe whatever you want. Code or not and your snarky personal attacks or not, these private structures are not as safe as you've been led to believe. I have the names of several contractors and developers who have come to this conclusion. My hope is that University Edge will be the first of more exceptions. And again research proves that when students live in on campus housing under the ownership and management of a university and not privately owned developers, students graduate at a higher rate and sooner.
-
"and Quaker is considered the quietest dorm on campus." It is not.
-
That's great. I see this private development adding to The University of Akron as long as it has the same standards that UA has for its on-campus facilities...no fire traps please. One draw back...it is not on campus and is not owned and operated by UA, therefore, on-campus living factors (checks on under age drinking and clamping down on pot smoking) which contribute to higher graduation rates will not apply in these off-campus non-UA living quarters. Don't think for a moment that the private developer isn't marketing these factors without saying them out loud. The city of Akron including the mayor and his rubber stamps, city council couldn't care less. That includes county government as well.
-
Glad to see it. Now perhaps we can start seeing an improved graduation rate and UA being something better than a 3rd tier college. We should also hope that UA starts to enforce stricter residency requirements. They should require not only freshmen who come from outside of neighboring counties to live on campus but sophomores as well. Studies show that when students live on campus, they have a higher graduation rate and take less time to graduate. This will also have the added benefit of competing with the private developers constructing unsafe just off-campus housing that are nothing more than future section 8 facilities that will replace the Mayflower.

...and expecting integrity in our community in spite of the number of "state championships" isn't getting "riled up". It's more than being just about "a name". It's about honesty and taking the higher ground regardless if "everyone else" doesn't. Minimizing integrity by "explaining the way things are" is indeed justifying the lack of integrity especially when stating that "it happens everywhere". -

Why is it that stale Akronites try their best to justify stupidity claiming, "it happens everywhere"? I guess you are right. We have the world of Earl Shibe paint jobs touted as quality, below par "public" charter schools, called "academies" and an above average high school calling its proposed new 1,700 seat gym an arena. Perception is indeed a reality in the world of used car salesmen. Some things never change in Akron and that's the problem. Hey Mrs. Smith, I have a great deal on a pig in a poke. Don't ya want to buy it? -

I have a problem with the high school calling their renovated gymnasium an arena. A nice gym doe not an arena make. It will only seat around 1,700. Calling it an arena (let alone "The LeBron Jamed Arena"... ) makes the school look silly, forced and try-hard. It comes off as dishonest and fake to me. It continues the Akron reputation of being fake and at best pseudo. Shame on St.v/m and LeBron for making Akron look plastic.I don't even think UA should call the JAR an arena. It's a physical education complex (gymnasium) and nothing more. -
I think your set up would probably take place once UA puts a real concert in the stadium. A band is not a concert so a concert has yet to occur in UA's stadium However, at a real concert, you would be in a sit no matter where you are.

Personally, I think you've gouged your eyes out! Of course, I could be called, "ridiculous" or an "idiot" but then again, that would be a "personal attack". -

No one has made the claims you've accused them of making. Your straw man arguments and self-anointed patriarchy are getting old and perhaps "ridiculous". So, huff and puff while the rest of us engage in sincere dialogue. You seem so filled with yourself with your self-perception of being a middle of the road, fence riding diplomat. Something tells me that you have a lot of mirrors in your home. Perhaps you see yourself as Solomon.
