  1. After this many games into this seaon and 2.5 years into a new coaching staff when do things 'get cleaned up'?
  2. Assuming one is blaming things on the lack of player talent and not on the lack of coaching ability.
  3. Please help me understand your reasoning. If Akron's players are making crucial mistakes over and over and Buffalo's players are not what IS the issue?
  4. Here is what I saw. After the Zips first possesion when they ran some and Finley made some nice throws I thought maybe they built on something from last week. Imposible hermano! After the 2 fumbles game over. Rest of Zips points in garbage time. Finley for some reason makes a really bad throw. Blame Moorehead for not sticking with the run and continually putting the QB in bad spots.Got him hurt again later. Other side of that is, as usual the defense is incapable of ever bailing out the offense. More chunk plays through the air and on the ground. Every week. Putting Bullock on the field was useless. He didn't even look like he wanted to be in uniform. Made an awful throw on an 8th grade rollout/squareout that should have been a first down. Bottom line here is no real progress week over week. Thats coaching. We have been watching this for almost 3 full seasons. Sure, there are a few talented players. Feel bad for them. They wasted their time here. Didn't think I would be at this point, but unless they can come up with at least 2 more wins, I have seen enough of this regime. If Moorehead is here 2 more seasons, so be it.Afraid that just delays the invitible.
  5. Run effectively. Make UB respect the run. Show them that the O line can block for the run. Akron doesn't have to get 150 yds. on the ground. But, they do need to be able to get 3-4 yds. a pop consistently. Can't just run on 1st down then pass, pass, pass. Might involve some 3 and outs but might chew up clock and keep Akron's D off the field. Still think Akron's O line is a key. Get some yds. on the ground and protect the QB's. Sounds simple but hasn't been done consistently all season.
  6. Commit to the run again.Try to send a message that this team has gained some toughness that it hasn't had for weeks. Send a message to the O line that this is their game to win or lose. They had a 100 yd rusher last week so it can be done. The offense has to keep that defense on the sidelines as long as possible. Giving up too many 'chunk' plays. I realize that UB may defend the run better than the pass. So make them defend the run then throw it over their heads. If UB likes to run they will gouge the Akron D. Bullock may figure more prominently if they can put him on the field with Finley in some RPO situations. And, the first guy who gets an unsportsmanlike sits for a while.
  7. Any chance Nunnally sees the NFL somehow?
  8. Didn't get to the game, some family stuff. Listened to it and checked stats. What did Akron do Saturday that it hadn't NORMALLY been doing. A RB was used consistently and had 100+ yards. Another had over 60 yds. The O line was able to run block effectively. They had one nice long drive. Without the run game Saturday its another loss. If its a case of committing the entire offense more to the run to control the ball and keep the defense off the field do it. It might take some of the heat off the QB's because the O line still has trouble with protection. Bullock was used a little more effectively. Good thing, he may have to start. At least the offense pu up points when it had to. The defense was pedestrian at best. Gave up 300+ through the air and a significant chunk on the ground. No excuse for letting EMU go all the way down the field at the end. Happy to finally see a win against a DI opponent. Now lets see if the coaches and players learned something and apply it against Buffalo.
  9. Speaking of IUP, I casually follow them because all my relatives are from Indiana, PA. A significant number of good players and coaches have come out of that area. Cignetti is only one. Getsy was there for a while and moved up. The head guy now is Paul Torterella. Has IUP a consistent contender in the PSAC which is a tough DII conference. He has been HC since 2017. He has a nice situation at IUP. But a guy like that might be willing to take a shot at a lower level DI program if presented with the opportunity. Speaking of DII, a guy by the name of Brian Kelly did OK up in Michigan before moving on and up. Whether Moorehead leaves voluntarily or otherwise, Akron has to finally look at someone who can bring some discipline and recruiting ability to the program. Lets see what happens with the last few games.
  10. Agree. After I retired I got busy being busy. Lots of volunteering, a side job, grand kids. I'm on the north side of 70. Those who assume that 'getting old' in this day and age is the same as even 40, 50, 60 years ago are the ones who are 'over the hill'. Ageing is what you make of it.
  11. How old was Bowden when he got the job here and when he left? Don't know how many people on this site are 60+. Some 60+ year olds are 'washed up'. Some people 50+ are 'washed up'. Some people a lot younger are 'washed up'. No, I highly doubt that JD would get a head coaching job here. But ageism is insulting.
  12. Whats Moorehead's excuse? I'm 72 and saw the Zips win the MAC championship. 60 ain't that old. How old was Bowden? Probably fewer outside distractions than when he was raising a family. Doubt it would happen but it would be intruiging eh?
  13. I have season tix but at this point in the journey decided to 'donate' my money to the athletic dept. Did my 20 mile bike ride instead. I want to look at the stats. But,from the comments posted here this is a game a sound, well coached team would have won.
  14. I apologize if I said this previously. But, does anyone know why Moorehead didn't go to Miami with Cristobal? Just wonderin'.
  15. How many more years will it take Moorehead to find 'his' QB for 'his' system?
  16. Indecision Stadium and the field house are meaningless now. That train left the station years ago. Recruits are only going to come here if they are not good enough to play elsewhere or want to try to play a year and move on. When they see a program that is chronically poorly performing on the field and on the sideline they can go anywhere and have a better opportunity. Not gonna get themselves beat up to win 1 or 2 games. Still curious as to why Cristobal didn't want Mooerhead to go to Miami of Florida with him.
  17. At this point in this season it is a bit, lets say, less than useful to be trying to evaluate individual players after each loss by 20 points or more to D1 opponents. When the RB's only get a total of 8 carries for 15 yards, when your offense can only produce a -18 yards on he ground, only +15 from the RBs(Finley's total 'ground' yardage was -31. I know that includes sacks), when your offense only produces 196 yds. through the air and you only have positive offensive yardage of 211 yards you have a systemic problem not just an individual one. When your defense gives up 236 yds. on the ground with 2 opponent's RBs going over 100 yds. each, when the opposing QB passes for over 200 yds. on top of that, you don't just have an individual problem you have a systemic problem. They had a chance to jump start their season with a win yesterday. OU is certainly not the top tier of the MAC this year but they won by 20 points. What the coaches are trying to get the players to execute on offense and defense isn't working. Will that change now? After this amount of time doubtful. What do they do this year and in the future? Very disappointing again.
  18. I'm looking at the stats. Akron RB's run the ball a total of 4 times each! Finley has to throw the ball 38 times completes 25. Has 2 picks. Never expected this kind of crap when they hired Moorehead. This is not about 'nit picky' things. Moorehead has made no progress with the program. They needed to win today. Lose by 20!!!! Unlesss there are 4 more wins in this sched. Some really hard decisions HAVE to be made about the future of football at Akron. Not just talking about coaching changes. Talking about where this program wants to compete.
  19. As you know, when QB's continually get hit and chased, most of them develop bad habits. Your ribs are hurting, your shoulders are sore etc.,etc. After 3 beatings, he is now anticipating those hits. Throws start going off the back foot. They get out too early. Too many throws on the run. That leads to missing targets even when there is a 'surprisingly' clean pocket. And with this O line and lack of a consistent run game a clean pocket is as you say, surprising. Here is hoping it all comes together in Athens.
  20. Agree to disagree. We will see what happens in Athens.
  21. Yep. I wasn't jumping off the Moorehead band wagon until now. But, to allow a kid to take the beatings Finley has been taking the last few weeks is inexcusable in my estimation. Where does the offense go without Finley. Moorehead won't run the ball. Your back-up QB...? Wanna go the rest of the way with him?
