  1. That was adumb play call.
  2. So the new AD will have to accept the situation into which he/she had no input? That person HAS to keep the current HC? Or,everybody has already been fired, its all yours? The caveat is that the administration has already picked a new AD, got that persons input and will go with that persons decisions. If thats the case just name the new AD? Still think if Akron somehow beats Toledo it might change the equation.
  3. Conclusion?
  4. They better. There will be big decisions to be made regarding the coaching staff on Wednesday 11-27. The University needs to stay out in front of the situation or its going to be even more difficult than it already is to get a decent AD candidate. And, there won't be any decisions on coaches until the new AD is here. I'd like to see them take a shot at an AD from a succesful lower division program. I'd look at DII as well as 1-AA. With a new AD I'm not so sure that keeping the current coaches around is a lock. I know finances are an issue as always. But, will a new AD agree to come in here and agree to keep the coaches? Maybe not real appealing to a good AD candidate. Beat Toledo and the leash might get a little longer. We shall see.
  5. Nice to beat KSU. But, please curb the overall enthusiasm. Coming up a 7-4 Toledo team that just got beat by one of the 2 best teams in the MAC. They are in a bowl game. Don't know what their attitude will be on Tuesday. If you can beat them that might change the equation for what happens the next day. But, a sign of progress would be beating a really good MAC team, finally. Stay tuned.
  6. Complicating the issue further is the news that the University is looking at general layoffs ,again, over the next year. Of course the President new that was coming before he fired Guthrie. If coaching changes are anticipated in the football program how do general budget cuts affect athletics?
  7. At least some of us thought that the defense might have been the strength of the team this season. There are some individually good players no doubt. But as a unit this group of players and coaches has shown little ability to help control a game enough to help the team win. They have been pretty much getting gouged by the run and big plays all season. NIU did exactly what it wanted to do. That was to be rugged and beat up the Akron defense on the ground. We are way past trying to figure out why the offense does what it does. Three seasons in, this is not where the program should be.
  8. Didn't the defense just give almost 300 yds. on the ground? Thats hard to imagine but I guess not unexpected. Thas what NIU does. NIU probably didn't even need to throw a pass if they didn't want to. Hard to imagine if they had thrown the ball more what the score might have been.
  9. It looks like everybody is talking about funding football specifically and athletics in general. As we know it takes lots of cash to operate athletics at the DI level. Akron has never been able to rely on attendance to fill a significant part of the financial hole with any sports, especially football. There is not nearly enough student or community interest. There are not enough donors at Akron to fill the void. You can do that at the P4 schools. Not here. I am tired of watching the football team get beat up at the start of every season just to keep the athletic department afloat. So now what? Downgrade, eliminate....? I wouldn't want to see football, for example, eliminated but it doesn't seem to make sense competitivley or financially to continue the path that the athletic department has been on for years now. There are options. Just have to try something that hasn't been tried.
  10. He always seeed to be a genuine person. He used to hold "Lunch with the Coach'on campus every week. I believe on Wednesdays. They had a pretty good spread too. He talked. Had some of the players attend. I still have the "Movin' A' I won at one of the lunches. Sadly his brand of football was outdated. But, he did recruit some good players. I think he recruited Jason Taylor among others. Check me on that.
  11. Nobody is going anywhere this season. Whoever is the new AD he/she will look at football first and decide what to do. If the new AD thinks there is an AVAILABLE coaching upgrade I would assume that would be pursued. Moorehead will be gone if the new AD thinks the coach that is available and willing to sign does so. Not rocket science. If there doesn't seem to be an upgrade, Moorehead and his staff will return for at least part of next season. I do remember talking to a person who was on the search committee that hired Bowden. He said it kind of came out of nowhere at the last minute. So, who knows. I would be concerned about the other coaches also. Not that they would be fired but, that the coaches might not be willing to stick around for another AD. We will see.
  12. Sounds 'nicer'. lol
  13. IF 'discipline' is as big an issue as it appears to be shouldn't that have been corrected by the coaching staff after almost 3 seasons? I would figure the answer would be 'yes'. As far as if anymore wins this year, there is NIU on the road. I have watched them twice on TV. Thats a tough, rugged football team. Their record probably isn't what it should be. But, they did beat ND and just beat WMU and BGSU. Not a likely win. End the season with Toledo who is still in the hunt. Ahhh...no. KSU, now thats possible. On top of this, a lot is going to depend on the attitude of the players. If they figure this coaching staff may be gone after this season, hard to tell what the level of motivation might be.
  14. If you really want to feel old, tell me you were at the 2 DII playoff games at the Bowl back in the '70s. Tell me you saw teams that Gordon Larson coached. Those teams won at the level they were playing at. Always at least competitive. They had the talent and coaching to compete at that level. Shoot, Lee Owens was at least competitive when he was here. Had a losing record overall but had some good seasons. JD was able to gather enough talented players to win a MAC championship and beat some legit DI programs. I just don't get not being able to at least be more competitive.
  15. I am constantly confused. Not questioning the stats. But if there is that much 'talent' on the team what is causing that talent to not win games? Is the talent being 'used' properly? When I watch the games I think I see individuals who are good ball players at this level. Whats missing? Help.
  16. UB kept attacking the right side(their left) of the Akron secondary with some success. There was NO wind to speak of. What little there was, was gentle out of the north. I stood in the south end after 1/2 and there was only a slight breeze in my face. Big picture, big trouble.
  17. After this many games into this seaon and 2.5 years into a new coaching staff when do things 'get cleaned up'?
  18. Assuming one is blaming things on the lack of player talent and not on the lack of coaching ability.
  19. Please help me understand your reasoning. If Akron's players are making crucial mistakes over and over and Buffalo's players are not what IS the issue?
  20. Here is what I saw. After the Zips first possesion when they ran some and Finley made some nice throws I thought maybe they built on something from last week. Imposible hermano! After the 2 fumbles game over. Rest of Zips points in garbage time. Finley for some reason makes a really bad throw. Blame Moorehead for not sticking with the run and continually putting the QB in bad spots.Got him hurt again later. Other side of that is, as usual the defense is incapable of ever bailing out the offense. More chunk plays through the air and on the ground. Every week. Putting Bullock on the field was useless. He didn't even look like he wanted to be in uniform. Made an awful throw on an 8th grade rollout/squareout that should have been a first down. Bottom line here is no real progress week over week. Thats coaching. We have been watching this for almost 3 full seasons. Sure, there are a few talented players. Feel bad for them. They wasted their time here. Didn't think I would be at this point, but unless they can come up with at least 2 more wins, I have seen enough of this regime. If Moorehead is here 2 more seasons, so be it.Afraid that just delays the invitible.
  21. Run effectively. Make UB respect the run. Show them that the O line can block for the run. Akron doesn't have to get 150 yds. on the ground. But, they do need to be able to get 3-4 yds. a pop consistently. Can't just run on 1st down then pass, pass, pass. Might involve some 3 and outs but might chew up clock and keep Akron's D off the field. Still think Akron's O line is a key. Get some yds. on the ground and protect the QB's. Sounds simple but hasn't been done consistently all season.
  22. Commit to the run again.Try to send a message that this team has gained some toughness that it hasn't had for weeks. Send a message to the O line that this is their game to win or lose. They had a 100 yd rusher last week so it can be done. The offense has to keep that defense on the sidelines as long as possible. Giving up too many 'chunk' plays. I realize that UB may defend the run better than the pass. So make them defend the run then throw it over their heads. If UB likes to run they will gouge the Akron D. Bullock may figure more prominently if they can put him on the field with Finley in some RPO situations. And, the first guy who gets an unsportsmanlike sits for a while.
  23. Any chance Nunnally sees the NFL somehow?
