  1. You don't get it either.and I never called anyone a front-running loser.and I also had commitments with my children that precluded me from attending the game in Columbus.and I don't have to defend myself to you junior..so I don't know why I am.I was at the Bowl before you were born...so take a hike.
  2. You're preaching to the choir here!
  3. My take on Indiana:WHO’S HERE?There, now you know the origin of “Hoosiers.” In the westward expansion of the United States in the early 1800’s, those living to the west of the new state called Ohio would answer a knock on their door with a “Who’s here?” with that certain accent — and it sounded more like HoosIer. So, there you go. You think I’m making that up? Check it out.The Hoosiers of Bloomington - The outlookIndiana has gotten off to a good start with wins over in-state foe Indiana State and fellow MACster Western Michigan. The stars of the show so far? The Hoosier defense, which forced five turnovers last week against Western — and sophomore quarterback Kellen Lewis. Double threatLewis was 20 of 40 for a total of 221 yards in the air against the Bronocs and threw for 285 yards the week before against the Sycamores. But what really makes Lewis dangerous is his athletic ability and pocket-sense beyond his years. The Jacksonville, Florida native has rushed for 59 yards in each of the first two games. He leads the team in rushing. When he’s not running the ball, Lewis can create havoc in the air. His favorite targets are sophomore wide receive Ray Fisher, who has a team leading 11 receptions - junior wide receiver James Hardy, with 180 yards and four touchdowns and junior wide receive James Bailey.Do-able D-fenseTrue, the Hoosier D forced five turnovers against Western Michigan, but you can blame a lot of that on the Broncos for not taking care of the ball. Stats show the Hoosier D can be passed upon. Western had a combined 354 passing yards last week. Where the Hoosiers get tough is up front. The Indiana D-line gave up only 30 yards rushing last week on 30 Western attempts and sacked Bronco QB Tim Hiller four times.Interesting match upsIf the Ohio State game showed us anything, it is that the Zips D is tough. If they can continue building on last week’s performance, they can give Lewis and the Hoosiers a difficult day in Bloomington. The dent in the Hoosier armor appears to be the secondary. Key will be the young Zips O line getting enough of their act together to provide Zips quarterback Chris Jacqumain enough protection to take advantage of the Indiana D backfield. The KeyThe Zips may live or die by the D this year. The defense gave the Buckeyes all they could handle for the first half last week. If the Zips offense can keep them off the field with a little more success, perhaps Akron can pull this one off and and break the Hoosiers 18-game winning streak against teams from the Mid-American Conference. The Zips defense will do their part. The key will be the O-line blocking a talented Hooiser line, providing enough pass protection for Jacquemain and opening holes for Dennis Kennedy.

  5. Zippy top vote getter by only 10 as of 1:23 p.m.
  6. You're not getting the point '74.and I'm done talking about it.
  7. I was complaining that the manager would be so petty as to not let her waitress (one waitress) wear an Akron shirt.I don't apologize for that. Agreed, they is lame. I hope you asked to speak to that manager. I did...but she didn't come over, of course. The service wasn't that great. They were obviously slammed.Operating a sports bar, you'd think that they would be aware that the Big Ten (11) Network hasn't signed with Warner cable forcing Buckeye fans to the bars....a windfall no doubt, but their staff was not prepared. Windfall or not, asking one waitress to change because someone requested she wears a Zips shirt is sad. I would call and complain about that manager. That is BS Important fact here...the waitress didn't mind. She actually had the shirt on and her manager told her to take it off.I'm thinking of e mailing them...

  10. My point exactly 1990. Although a little out of the way, I was going to talk to them about making a hang out for the Oldies.I know we're just getting this club together, but one day I invision a lot of Alums getting together wearing gold and blue.Kinda hard to do at a place that makes decisions like that. Petty...short-sighted.The Winking Lizard incident is very sad and disappointing, especially when they host a weekly UA event with the coach. My feelings are Rockne's on Merriman. They support Zips football on the radio by buying commercials....they're centrally located...so far, so good. The last time I went there, they had a huge UA sports poster covering one of the walls. The owners support the Zips pretty well, although I don't know if they changed colors for yesterday, only to switch back today. I don't think they would, though. uakronkid...which place are you talking about?
  11. I agree skip...We don't really know what Jaq can do because of the line. They are young...don't know about their talent level..can they make enough progress to provide decent protection? The heart attack is on the line...let's not put a band aid on it by changing the QB.Personally, I wish we would end the QB derby.

  14. Cicero...I would agree with the spirit of what you say...we are a mid-major...yes, but calling us small time is just insulting. If we're small time, then why are we on Ohio State's schedule.I know the tone of some of these posts may be difficult for an Ohio State fan to take, but try to rise above.I don't expect everyone to bleed blue and gold. But when you go into an Akron area bar and you see people rooting against the local team...people who have no connection to Ohio State...it's a little difficult to take.I don't think inferiority complex is the right term here.It has just always been my nature to root for the underdog.
  15. I think we're familiar with Southern Illinois...thank you.
  16. Too many turnovers by Western. The Hoosiers won't have their way with our D, not the way they played today.
  17. I was talking more about the fan base than the talent on the field...attracting a following.Just the same...the offense WAS a joke today. Having said that...OSU's defense is pretty good.I'm holding out hope that they'll put something together as the season goes on and the opposition not as stiff. However, you have to hand it to the D and the special teams today. The D just ran out of gas....special teams pinned the Bucks deep in the own territory. Are you saying that just because one element of the team needs work we should throw the baby out with the bath water?I'm watching Indiana WMU tonight. the Hoosier offense is not going to do against us what they're doing against the Broncos.I don't think things are as dark as you make them sound.
  18. Just ran across this article in the Western Star in Lebanon, OH.....they thought rather highly of the Zips.....http://www.western-star.com/s/content/oh/s...sumatchups.html
  19. I think ESPN360 is an Internet thing for people with Verizon DSL.Since I'm a Verizon customer, I have access.I don't think cable systems pick it up....but I could be wrong.
  20. It was obvious at Wing Warehouse today that most of the people wearing red and gray did not go to college. So I stipulate your observation.
  21. yeah, they finally got to it (WMU/IU) with 3 minutes left in the first quarter. We had to sit through that lame Florida St. UAB game.
  22. Guys....people do care about Akron..just look at this board. Many, many more people care about the Zips, than say, when I went there in the D II days. We've only been DI since 1987...a blip on the radar screen. Plus, we're in a major-league market, which makes it all the more difficult.I see a good foundation building.A couple of winning seasons in combination with the new stadium, will take us to another level....and one day we may see restaurant staff wearing blue and gold.
  23. So by your logic anyone who went to school some where else, but settles into a job in the Akron area, they shouldnt support the Zips? Yeah that makes sense. We don't know the manager went to OSU...we only know she is an OSU fan.And when you have your entire staff decked out in OSU gear, and one of your customers GIVES a waitress an Akron shirt and you make her take it off...don't you think that's a little much?come on!
  24. I was that rep from AK-OLDIES (and Craig, we'll get you that shirt). All of the Wing Warehouse staff was wearing Ohio State gear. Since my money is blue and gold, I gave my waitress an AK-OLDIE shirt to cover her Buckeye shirt. She's from Can't State but doesn't care about Can't State sports.Get this...her manager made her take the AK-OLDIE shirt off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I asked my waitress if her manager was an OSU grad. She only said she was an OSU fan.Not good enough for me.I understand doing what you want with your own business, but this was petty.I will spend my money elsewhere. Thanks ZIP81. I got your email and responded to it with my address. Thanks for tracking me down at the Wing Warehouse. Obviously their manager is a front running loser just like Cicero who seems to think that schools represent geographical areas rather than their current and former students and faculty. Isn't funny how Suckeye fans get so bent out of shape when you question their allegiance to a school that they absolutely have no ties to other than "I grew up a Buckeye fan". What a bunch of B.S. At least us folks here at the nation are willing to support our school rather than someone else's just because they happen to be the popular winner every year. If I remember corretly, isn't Cicero a Miami Redhawk. What the H*ll is he rooting for OSU for? He is a disgace to that great university in Oxford. As far as the Wing Warehouse, its a shame that you were treated so rudely by management there. That is a great bar with a great atmosphere, but I have to say that I have probably spent me last dollar there as well.I think I will be heading to the Lizard in Fairlawn next Saturday. Hopefully they will give us a good area to watch the game without any interuptions from Suckeye fan. Otherwise, I may have to do my best impersonation of an Oakland Raider fan on them. Winking Lizard...that's a good thought too Craig. They support Akron by hosting the coaches luncheon.Good Call!Don't forget to wear your Oldies Gear! The Hoosiers are beatable...if the offense shows up.Thanks again!
