You're a real cut up!(rim shot here)

I would think the alumni who would be there are the 7 or so thousand who are the only ones who have been going to the games at the bowl...win or lose, rain or shine....unlike 9/10th of the students.

I tried to get pics of them, but there were too many guys with suits blocking my view. I only got one picture that was relatively clear, It's not much, but it's all I have for now.I can't wait to watch the news tonight to see who picked up this story and who didn't. It will be a good barometer of which stations actually care about us. UAkid:It's not a question of which station cares about us...it's a question of do they think their audience cares. My guess is yes. You'll see a reporter package, if not a live shot, on Channel 3.5 and 8 may not do a package, but will report it with an anchor voiceover, maybe even a soundbite. Of the two, Channel 8 has the best chance of doing a reporter package.19...who know...who cares. More people watch the security monitors at Chapel Hill. The announcement is big to us because we bleed blue & gold, but you have to keep the big picture in mind. And I'm very disappointed Mayor Don wasn't there. The guy knows how to hold a grudge, no doubt still angry about Quaker Square.

Article in Cincinnati Enquirer quotes Bob Huggins on his special relationship with Coach Prosser.“He was a great guy,” Huggins said. “Skip and I got along really well from when he was in high school in Wheeling. He was Xavier when I was at Akron and we always really got along.Entire article:http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...260039/1062/SPT

With all due respect, the campus changes were planned before Dr. P. I forget the president prior to him (Muse?), but it was planned under his watch. It's been a long time coming. Wasn't the president between Muse and Proenza Peggy Gordon Elliot?

The new stadium looks nice and all, but I'm still a bit disappointed it's not a bowl or horseshoe.I'd feel better if the grassy knoll on the north side was filled with stands. As for tailgating...build it and they will find a way.
-
They could do what Browns Stadium and the Wolstein Center did....sell naming rights to each gate...you know...just to milk a few more bucks out of the situation.
-
You seem to think YSU and Akron are in similar circumstances, of which you are wrong, of course.Akron is in a major league sports market and competes with the Browns, Indians and Cavs for the entertainment buck.Very few monster D I programs are in major pro markets. There are a few exceptions, such as Miami FL, USC, but there are not many.Who does YSU compete with...the Scrappers???? Oh boy. You may argue that Youngstown in wedged between two pro sports markets, however, the distance is too great to be considered part of those regions. The Aeros are sold out just about every night. That would not be possible without a nice facility like Canal Park...in addition to their recent Eastern League Championships.I have to believe that with the new stadium, the corporate backing that comes with the suites and the recent direction of the football program, that attendance will improve.
-
So what your saying then is that the stadium looks nothing like Cuyahoga Falls I'm a Falls grad and couldn't make the connection...sorry.
-
Yes, it looks like the drawings...but they were only conceptual...not a proposed design...I hope.
-
Now you're talking Cowboy. That stadium looks like it seats more than 26,000, which goes to show you can look big time without a 50,000 seat stadium.
-
If our stadium looks like this, I will be very disappointed.
-
And what do you base this opinion on....do tell?

On YSU....hang with me on this one...

What I'm calling eguins out on is the fact that he's been whining about us not wanting to play them...and then we offer to do so..they turn us down..now everything is OK.In addition to accusing us of not wanting to play them because we are AFRAID of losing, he accuses us and Can't for keeping YSU out of the MAC.In reality, it is YSU not committing to a DIA program that is keeping them out of the bigtime rather than Akron or Can't. Also, it's the Michigan schools keeping them out of the MAC much more so than Akron or Can't. They simply don't want another Ohio team in the conference.Physician heal thyself rather than blaming everyone else for your troubles. -

I just think it's a dirty rotten shame that YSU won't play us.We'd like to play for the ugliest trophy in college football again, but it's their need for $$ that is getting in the way of rekindling this storied rivalry.I'd also like to see them in the MAC too, however, they just won't make the commitment for a Div. IA program.Seems to me that they should look in the mirror instead of whining and blaming other schools as to why they won't play us. -

Actually Fear:WQMX and WONE are FM mothers. WKDD has never been the same since they went from 96.5 to 98.1.WQMX, the former WDBN was 135,000 watts at one time, However, I believe they moved their stick to a higher location, which would require lower wattage. When I was at WAUP, the tower was on top of Kolbe Hall...3,000 watts at about 170 feet. Now, WZIP has a side mount on one of those TV towers out in Copley...a lot more antenna heighth...but lower wattage...antenna heighth is much more important with FM and TV, which is FM.

I could swear that when I was going to Akron in the late 70's, early 80's, our enrollment was pushing the living hell out of 30,000.We were number three behind OSU and UC.Anyone else from that era remember the enrollment?

eguin:What about all that crap you were flinging about US not wanting to play YOU?What a bunch of bull. And as another poster pointed out with actual figures...you overstate your home attendance....by A LOT.Packed house...yeah, right.Nothing but Penguin Poop! -
Long walk to Olin Hall.

Thinking out loud.....Back in the day....the Zips were on both WAUP and WAKR. At the time, WAKR also broadcast the Browns and Indians and seemed to be able to handle the Zips football and basketball too. Can't State was on WKNT, which is now WNIR.Conflicts that may occur now that didn't back then, is because of the MAC's deal with ESPN, which has us playing football possibly any darn day of the week, which could conflict with Indians baseball early in the season. WAKR also broadcasts the Cavs, which could mean big time conflict with Zips basketball.WHLO is not a bad way to go. Great daytime signal...acceptable nighttime signal...both, way better than 1350, which has a very critical nighttime signal.I wouldn't think there would be any contractual issues switching from 1350 to 640 because they are both owned by Clear Channel. Here's the rub. 1350 is a sports station. Clear Channel probably thinks it should have the Akron games on there where putting them on WHLO, a conservative talk station, doesn't make as much sense. My only hunch as to why WZIP, a non-commercial FM, doesn't broadcast the games anymore is that if a commecial station pays rights to the games, they want an exclusive.Such apparently wasn't the case when I went to the U. I think WAKR thought of us as a college station with kids doing the broadcasts, which couldn't compete with them, plus they cut us some slack because we were a college station just trying to get experience.Bottome line...I think the Zips will stay on 1350...unfortunately.

I suggested to the University that they hold a "Game Ball Run" from the 50 yard line of the Rubber Bowl to the 50 yard line of the new stadium to kick-off the ground breaking. Former Zips players and fans could participate. I think it would be a fun thing to get the community and former players involved. My guess:1.) It makes too much sense and they won't do itor 2.) Someone @ UA will do it, and take credit50/50 either way. Nice idea.there are a lot of things they can do.The lack of any official ceremony makes me wonder about the whole project. The administration has said very little about the project publicly.I mean, they even had a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Summit County Jail.

You would think they'd have a ground-breaking ceremony or something.Get Proenza and the boys out there with hard hats and silver spades.
