  1. First Half Comments? If we were making baskets earlier in the game, we would have the predicted blow out.Have you ever seen a team turn over the ball as much as Northern?NIU hitting from 3 point land. We've got to stay more focused.I got the impression they were on auto pilot at the beginning of the game.

  2. I was just watching ESPN Sportscenter, when to my great suprise, a Zips basketball commercial comes on advertising the WMU game on ESPN2! I am truly amazed at this, as it is the first legitimate TV advertisement I have seen on a channel that I know people actually watch. I understand it is only broadcast in the local area, but this is a good step foward for Marketing and hopefuly the start of something even better.
Kid:Was it an ad that UA purchased or just a promo ESPN was running for the game?
  3. Journalistically, this article is a piece of crap.No attribution...No on-the-record-source....just speculation.I would be blown away if Coacher goes anywhere. He has said over and over he wants to be here for the rest of his career.I take him at his word. I consider him a person of integrity. He's a Zip. His Mom was a psyc professor here...this is home.He is NOT going anywhere.

  4. Did anyone hear the attendance for the game?  It was better than I expected with way too many people showing up at the last minute.
There was a pretty large walk up crowd. Why would that be a problem? We should just be glad they are there...no?The side upper deck general admission was just about full. I would say 1/3 of each upper end zone was full. What really surprised me was the amount of empty blue seats. I take it not all of those are sold out for the season. However, I would have to believe most of the lower reserved are season tickets and A LOT of those seats were empty. But there was plenty of home spirit going around...plenty of home court advantage.Buffalo is a tough defensive team...good pressure...good boards. There are only 3 seniors on their roster, which tells me they're going to be good for a couple of years to come.
  5. The only promotion I like is letting the kids get in free when they wear their jersey.Other than that...$5,000 shooting contest? I'll bet they have to make the shot from the Olin Hall faculty parking lot.Dance clinic? I don't know, if it gets the kids involved...fine. I don't see people beating the doors down because of this one either.Seems they could do better.

  6. I think the time of the game will hurt the attendance... However, i still think we will beat the 3000 mark. We should beat Buffalo by double digits at home.
You're probably talking about the NFL playoffs.I like the 2 p.m. time on a Sunday..will be there with the little Zippers in tow.
  7. OK, winning the NIT is a championship. However, your the 66th best team in the nation. The other 65 made the REAL Show. What do you think would happen if Akron were to be the national runner-up in BB? Tell me there wouldn't be a banner!
In that case, I would have a banner that lists each year we made the NCAA Tournament. Here's what I propose:A banner listing each year we make the NCAA Tournament.A banner listing each year we make the NIT.A banner for any NCAA or NIT championship.A banner for any conference championship.A banner for each retired number.I didn't expect this to be so emotional. If you disagree...that's cool.Put the old banners back up...the sun will still come up.I didn't like it when the Indians were putting divisional banners on the outfield fence either. I think they should keep it to American League or World Series Championships.
  8. You mean to tell me that being the Nat'l runner-up in D-2 is and was not significant???If you had been around then, you would have thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.Using that argument, assuming we had won the NIT last year, which is a minor tournament in the whole scheme of things, then we should not have hung a banner? The history of the U of A bb is not hjust about the last few years since we have been D-1. It goes all the way back to days of Billy Turner, Don Williams, Bobby Smith and all the others that competed when the school was in the OAC.Let's get those banners back. :mad_flame::mad_flame:
Winning the NIT would be a championship, therefore deserving of a banner.I WAS around for the last few years of Div. II. I understand there was life before Huggins. But I can't see putting up a banner for second place.
  9. I should add that history is a relative compass of progress. Those banners represent magnetic north. Without them, we don't know where we've been, where we are, and thus, where we are going. We need those banners back!
I respectfully disagree.I'm a history lover as much as anyone and appreciate how far the program has come. However, you don't need your "Championship" banners to read like a media guide.Banners are meant to honor significant achievement, not the run of the mill.
  10. Does anyone plan on making the trip to Pittsburgh for the Duquesne vs. Akron men's basketball game on Monday, February 26th? I'm a UA alum who also happens to be a graduate student at Pitt and I plan on attending the game. I'd love to meet up with other members of The Nation to cheer UA on to a victory. :screwks:
    Trimmy:Wear your body armor! :D
  11. Can SOMEONE explain to me WHY the championship banners are now missing from the JAR??? They have been gone since the season started and have not been returned. THATS our history of great teams from the past and for some strange reason they are missing.UA LUM
I understand where you are coming from.However.I think we had banners up there for accomplishments that really shouldn't have banners.Division II runnerup? I don't think so.It's like a program clinging to anything to put up a banner. We can do better than that.Let's only put them up for Conference championships and retired numbers.
  12. On the way home last night, my 1350 am reception began to fade horribly, so I clicked on 640 am to hear some of the post-game thoughts from the Can't side.  Their assistant (Oppenheimer or something like that) clearly indicated that the Can't coaches felt the game was lost purely from a lack of effort in the 2nd half.  I know coaches will always have a tendency towards that line of thinking, but they don't always call the kids out in public on it.  It'll be interesting to see what happens the 2nd (and maybe 3rd and Frenchie loves to say) time around.  :screwks:
The Flush fans who can not accept the truth are already calling for an apology on the Can't Forum.http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/phpbb/vi...pic.php?t=42690
