  1. lol, I can't believe we feel threatened by a soccer stadium.First off, macedonia is a great location for soccer stadium.  Look at all the nearby suburbanite and yuppy cities, not to mention that Rt.8, I271, and I80 all intersect there.Secondly, it wont kick up traffic that much except during games.... Yes, I have seen the plans for a shopping center and other development, but they are actually planning (with ODOT) to remove the signaled intersections and make Rt.8 a through-way.  Thirdly, Soccer does not in any way compete with football.  People don't say, "gee, I'm too tapped out rooting for pro-soccer and 3 other pro-teams to worry about college football".  If you are a fan, you're a fan.Fourth, the football stadium will get built with or without public funds.  Fifth, not all public funding gets voted on. ;)Also, what was that thread someone posted about a private consortium that was raising lots of money for development, of which, the stadium seemed to be a large part of the plans?Oh yeah, it can't hurt the region if the localities and county makes some extra tax dollars from soccer.  It could help the region in terms of growth as well as image.  Both of which could end up benefiting the university in a tertiary way.
Who's feeling threatened??It's a dumb idea.Look at how many professional soccer teams have come and gone since the Cleveland Force! What is going to happen to this thing when the new team folds...and you can bet that it will.Hey, we finally found a use for the Coliseum! And there's plenty of land around it for the shopping center and development...and right next to I-271 too! Oh, wait a minute, they tore that down...didn't they?If Wolstein wants to make a mistake with his own money...fine.But don't ask for my tax dollars from Columbus or in the form of a bogas cigarette tax.Look, soccer is a fine sport...the most popular in the world. But putting another pro soccer team in NE Ohio will go over about as well as another hockey team.Build the shopping center...bag the stadium.
  2. This soccer stadium is such a stuipid idea. If you want to build a shopping center, then just build it without the stadium or tax dollars to put it up.The Wolsteins should get over this soccer thing they have.I can see this thing turning into another Coliseum.Bag the idea and put those tax dollars towards a stadium on campus.UA spokesman Rick Herold said in the paper that the U isn't concerned about this...he had to say that publicly because all the movers and shakers seem to be in favor of this dumb idea.Privately, I'll bet the people on the Hilltop are a little more concerned than they are letting on.Remember how the JAR was suppose to be a 12,000 theatre seat facility with raquet ball and hand ball courts? A little less $$ support from Columbus saddled us with this high school gym.Bag the soccer stadium. Not needed...Not wanted (except by those waiting to make the $$$ with taxpayer dollars).

  3. Read the rule books moron! Its a rule
I'd love to when they switched that. 99 Buffalo came here. Mid 90s Can't came here, early 90s Akron came here, and since all that.... the MAC has left us stranded since we had dominated them in the MAC.Gimme the rule book, the exact page, and I'd love to see this... Because your lying... I know you are.:wave::wave::wave::wave::wave:
Here's a thought....if YSU is so good, why don't you just join the Big 10 and go back to Yunztown and forget you even found this site?
  4. I bet now you guys would've wish they had switched that vote. YSU at any Akron and Can't game would be the biggest attendance for each team that year.I know YSU vs. Can't was their highest attended game in 03 and 00 I think!YSU vs. Akron--Another big crowd. Now I know YSU would sell out with these 2 games, and we'd bring 5-7,000 to Akron or Can't for a game... but would it sell out there?
Oh, I don't know...I don't think if Youngstown was on the sked if it would be the most attended home game.Any attraction YSU had with Akron fans has expired.I don't think you can rekindle that one.Do I wish Akron had that vote back? Not really.
  5. Maybe Akron and Can't didn't vote in favor of you joining the MAC, but it wasn't anything personal.NE Ohio, and Ohio for that matter is already MAC saturated. The last thing they wanted to do was admit another school from NE Ohio.I wasn't that thrilled with Buffalo either, but the logic was to admit a new market to the conference. It had nothing to do with the quality of YSU's program. The same line of thinking went toward voting in Temple...unfortunately...in football only.I wish the MAC would make a rule...all sports or nothing.

  6. We had a nice rivalry going in the DII and DIAA years, but personally, I wouldn't want to play Youngstown again just not to lay eyes on the Steel/Tire Trophy again. That had to be the ugliest thing!!!

  7. The Zips should take care of Niagara with no problem whatsoever.  This is just another game to sort out the roster and practice 3pt shots.  Akron wins 89-54
uakronkid...what's the deal with our non-league sked this year?Niagra? Binghamton? Tiffin?Besides Nevada and Duquesne, I don't see much there. We blew an opportunity with the AK Little Rock loss.We had better win the MAC because we will be no where near an at-large bid with that kind of non-league sked. What do you think?
  8. TETT! (Too early to tell), but I have a bad feeling! With ball ammunition lock and load. :D And of course :screwks:
I agree. However, even though this season is a disappointment, we beat a BCS team in their house  and we've won a league championship :champs: and made a bowl appearance. Now I don't know if you can attribute all of that to JD or not, but I do know that I feel pretty good about the direction of the football program. We're going to learn a lot next year. Also, lets hope the stadium issue takes on more clarity.By the way, did I mention that :screwks:
  9. ...sure, we're all disappointed at the way our season turned out, especially after beating NC State. But if you want pathetic, check out this Can't State forum...they've been down for so many years, many of them are calling for an end to their football program. Beating us seems to be their highlight of the year. I don't know about you, but just beating Can't wouldn't be my highlight. Our rivalry would be stronger if they were a better program. Now, their most faithful fans and alums are calling for an end to the football program.Talk about throwing in the towel.http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/phpbb/vi...pic.php?t=40586

  10. To continue our discussion on the prowess of UA marketing....I'm at the Rubber Bowl last night for the WMU game. I have my little certificate that came with my season tickets telling me that all I had to do was show up to the gift shop at the Rubber Bowl to get my free Zips blanket. So, I get up to the window and present my certificate. The girl behind the counter says they don't have any. (I knew something like this was going to happen). I pointed out that the certificate said that I could pick it up at the Rubber Bowl on game day, and this is game day.She said they had given a lot away and didn't have anymore. Then, what appeared to be her supervisor came up and pointed out in a rude way that this WAS the last home game of the season. I pointed out again that all the certificate said was that all I had to do was show up on game day at the Bowl..nothing about first come first serve. She became really snotty and said if I want to complain I had to go to the ticket office. I told her that I was making my comments for her to pass on customer input to her superior. Very, Very typical Akron U...and I've had that season ticket since 1985!I wonder if the marketing department has a course on customer satisfaction? If so, I suggest the sports front office attend!

  11. That's not true, Youngstown has 2 pro Hockey teams, a pro baseball team and is getting a ALF2 football team. So thats not 100% true, plus highschool football
I know all that and you are nit picking and besides, all this is off the original topic of why Cleveland stations don't cover UA and Can't.All of the Youngstown teams, pro or otherwise, are Youngstown's. Their TV stations will cover themAkron and Can't, although in the Cleveland ADI (are of dominate influence), are not Cleveland's...thus, the coverage or interest isn't the same.A Youngstown/Cleveland comparision on this is just not apples to apples.
  12. The general admission side was full, but scattered, if you can invision that.I'm glad the ESPN cameras were pointed that way...made the game look pretty well attended.I will agree the reserved side was not that full...3,500 at the most.It is so difficult to guess with the end zone closed, but I would say about 11,000...13,000 at the very most.Box score attendance is obviously "paid" not "showed."Beautiful weather. Tailgate lot was well attended...I'd say a little more than usual.Got a little chilly when the sun went down with the Zips!

  13. Um, media market sizes aside, hasnt YSU won the DIV II title multiple times?  Didnt Tressel coach there?  Don't think market size has much to do with it.  Think success and history does.
Market size is relevent only in the sense that Youngstown doesn't have any pro sports, therefore can spend more time on YSU. The Penguins are their local team. But you are right...winning creates a buzz and buzz creates coverage.
  14. As the head coach, the buck ultimately stops with Brookhart, but lets not forget that he lost several assistants in the off-season which has a lot to do with comfort and continuity for the players.  Brookhart has been very good for the program and is getting solid talent to come to a school that has had a lousy D-1 reputation.  There's a lot of forward energy still emanating for this program that will be exponentially enhanced with a new stadium.  If the Zips go backwards in the next year or two, then yeah, let's discuss the head coach's effectiveness, but any objective outsider would definitely look at U of A as a program that has gone from moribund to on the rise.  Just ask Chuck Amato (oh wait, he'll just say that we're loaded with non-qualifiers.).  Anyways to make a long story short, from the institution that fired John Heisman, a large degree of patience is warranted with this program.
Agreed!by the way, can we also agree that :screwks: ?
