  1. I know quite a few people from Pittsburgh, and I am friends with an ex-Akron linebacker from that area. And here's why I think so many people know us out there. Starting back in the Faust era, we've recruited TONS of football players from the Pittsburgh area. A number of Faust's assistant coaches were from that area, and they canvassed that area pretty hard. And now that JD is here, he's using his Pittsburgh-area connections as well to recruit. We've especially been very successful when Pitt is going through rough times. That leaves players from that area wanting to play Division 1A, not wanting to go to Pitt, but wanting to play fairly close to home. If I sat down long enough, I could come up with a pretty large list of great Akron players from that area, and I bet this is what most of them would tell you.
Didn't coach Faust have one heck of a recruiting year when he signed 7 or 9 (can't remember) of the "Miricle 22" from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette?That was when Pitt was changing coaches...I think Johnny Majors was coming back...and he slipped in there and took some top-shelf talent.
  2. I'm sorry. I deal with radio stations every day. YOU, as the advertiser, tell THEM when you want to run your ads. Bleacher Bum...thanks for the observation.
Well, I worked in radio for many years. When a spot has an expiration date on it, you don't run it.It should even appear on the log (that's what the board op uses to tell what spot to play). If they ran an old spot, the client deserves a "make good."Sorry, this one falls on the station.
  3. I'm becoming a K-E-N-T State fan REAL QUICK!
I can understand your frustration, but really...don't be so hard on yourself. No one deserves that.I've had dealings with the athletic administration at this school since 1977.I've said it before and I'll say it again...we are still a D II school in many ways.Remember when Summit County Employees Night was the big draw?PA-LEESE, yep, that's gonna bring 'em in.At least we could look forward to one big-time crowd and event, but unfortunately the Acme Zip game is only a fond memory. And I want my blanket!!!! (But I'm sorry we're out. This IS the last home game, you know. You'll have to complain at the ticket office)
  4. You guys, we did not receive cards in the mail... we received emails. If you didn't receive anything that's because the alum association does not have your updated email in their data base.
I don't really care. I was just kidding. But the Alum asso does have my up to date e mail address...unless they don't even check their own Web site where I'm registered...even have my ugly mug up there. :D;):D;)
  5. I guess I'm not getting one since I didn't donate to the College of Fine and Applied Arts this year! :P
I didn't get a "Season's Greeting" from the Alumni Association, but I did get a card from the Athletic Department. I'm gonna look again at my diploma, maybe I never graduated, just bought season tickets.:lol::lol::lol:
Got home from work...there was an envelope from the U. Could it be my Christmas card????Nope...turned out to be a solicitation letter to the Akron Foundation.Yeah, right...No card, No money!!!! he he he :rock::rock:
  6. getting back to the topic of this YSU debate (again) ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR pitt game possibility. I would have to say if we can get them for a home game early in the year we should so it. I would give them home-away-away for the opportunity to beat the big dog that we need to beat to get the big time kids in the western Pa area, this would be a big chance for us. if we lose, so what, we still can recruit the same kids. At least this way we get to play in front of the recruiting base and play a competitive game.
I couldn't agree more.Even though next year's schedule already has a few big boys, I say put Pitt on...
  7. The Cleveland and Pittsburgh media covers every YSU game,
I'm sorry Indians....Cleveland TV does NOT cover every YSU game. A playoff game...perhaps...but not EVERY game.
I didn't sya TV, the PD and other print papers in cleveland does. I know this because of buddy of mine is a writer who I met up with several times at YSU. Sometimes the Pittsburgh Post has more insightful articles on YSU football then the Youngstown Vindy, Warren Tribune or Mahoning Valley Review had. Nethir the Youngstown Vindy, Warren Tribune or Pittsburgh post have any coverage of Akron and it pisses me off. I have to get the PD in order to read anything, and most of the time I have to read through YSU shit just to get to ours.I think YSU and Akron should meet, it would give me bragging rights with the in-laws. I already got some having our women beat YSU
I guess what threw me off was that you mentioned Channels 5 and 19 in the same sentence.Newspapers, well yeah, doesn't take much to put a blurb in Ohio wrap up. I'm sure they also have the occasional feature. This type of coverage is pretty standard though...I wouldn't expect the Warren, Youngstown or Pittsburgh paper to cover Akron...other than in a MAC roundup or something. But with no MAC schools in the Pittsburgh area...you're not likely to see that. When you are talking coverage, you must be referring to Ohio or conference scores and roundups. I don't see any Youngstown State coverage other than that in Cleveland/Akron media...and unless there's something special to write about..nor should there be. If you're looking for Zip news, I'd reach for the Beacon rather than the PD...of course, I don't know if you live in the Akrong area to pick one up...I do wish YSU would go Div. I though. I wouldn't mind putting them on the sked either...but I hesitate to put a I-AA on there. However, If we're going to play a IAA I'd rather see YSU than Howard or someone like that...even though the band was fantastic.
  8. Eguins, I found only two examples of any MAC school playing YSU in the last decade at your place. (1997 Buffalo and 1997 Can't).  I respect the fact that YSU is a national force at the I-AA level and Mount Union is a national force at DIII, but there is difference between the divisions.  The last times the Zips have paid a DI-AA school to come in have been blowouts.  (2003  Akron 45 Cal Poly 14 (they were nationally ranked at the time), Akron 65 Howard 7 (we had our subs in the 2nd quarter), and 2002 Akron 49 Liberty 21.  I am not saying your team is not good, but I-A's don't travel to I-AA's.  I don't care if we play any I-AA team ever again, but to ask Akron to do something no other I-A school is expected to do is crazy.  The Zips don't need the road game and will be better off doing home-away series with other I-A confereces.
You forget about the Steel Tire Rivalry. If Akron didn't run out of that series, it would be back and forth between Akron and Youngstown every year. Throw out the I-A/I-AA Argument. When you are rivals, with a series going on, you do not just quit it because your opponent had won 3 in a row against you.And once again: YSU Draws more than Akron! That alone would be reason enough to have a game here. I know you guys won't like it, but why not, you struggle to get 10,000 at your place, while YSU gets 17,000 each week.THE ONLY PLACE AKRON WILL BENEFIT OFF YOUNGSTOWN FANS DRIVING 45 MINUTES TO THE RUBBER BOWL WOULD BE TO HAVE AKRON FANS COME TO YOUNGSTOWN.... PERIOD!Your AD Knows damn well you need to get that 15,000 a year mark, as well as Terry Pluto of the ABJ.... And even he says to play Youngstown, somehow someway....O ya... Howard-Liberty each suck....and Cal Poly was not all that good in 02; when they were ranked.STEEL TIRE RIVALRY
:zzz::zzz::zzz: Lets move on to something else...shall we?Move up to IA and stop your bitching...then we'll play you OK?:cry::cry: You find fault with everyone but the people who can move you up a division...your own administration. Stop blaming everyone else already. We weren't in a conference when we made the jump..just go ahead and do it already for crying out loud (which is what you do very well).
  9. Akron is Division I-A and YSU is Division I-AA and there is a big difference.  When was the last time any Division I-A school played at a I-AA?
Tell that to the guy from YSU.Did the NCAA rename D-IAA to some kind of a Division I title?I've heard this on a couple of boards. Not that I-AA is on the same level as IA, just calling it something else doesn't mean anything.
  10. The most creative thing I've seen from this Marketing crew is Dambrot, reading a cue card, asking people to bring teddy bears to the St Francis game.
I wonder if the players could have done that better than KD (if NCAA rules allow?). I love what KD's doing on the court etc., but making "commercials" doesn't seem to be his forte, and that's OK. Just get us the wins, baby!
I made this comment on another board in Zips Basketball Forum Coach D didn't read a cue card he memorized what he was suppose to say and happened to look up a lot i don't know why...I was there in his office doing the taping...another thing that was brought up was the office lighting...the department has no lights to do any in house commericals...marketing wanted a cheap fast way to get something on the board...and taping was done a day before the game.In regaurds to the players that would have been cool don't know why marketing didn't think of that ooo well.
they should try a prompter next time.doesn't cost much to rent.big time program...huhfor goodness sakes...do what we did in Guzzetta hall...write the script on paper towel roll and drag it over a broom stick under the lens.
  11. I wouldn't bet the farm on it, but I honestly think it would do fairly well. I don't think it will flop. Attendence start out very strong, and wane if the team is less than mediocre for a few years, but I don't think it will flop... I could be wrong.
Just curious Zen...why do you think soccer will survive this time around when it has not in the past?
