  1. Look I am from Massillon Oh, born and raised went to the University of Akron. My point when comparing Columbus to Macedonia is the fact that Soccer is waaaay more popular down here compared to up there! And no one attends the professional games here so my question is what makes people think the will have a larger attendance in a location where there is less people I understand Macedonia is not on an island, but you can't compare MLS to the NFL or NBA it just isn't as popular here as it is in other countries. I agree this is a waste of taxpayers money.
Ryno, I couldn't agree more. However, with regard to populaton.Macedonia is centrally located in the Cleveland/Akron Metro market. I don't think you can say it has less people. You almost have 2 million people in Cuyahoga and Summit Counties alone. I couldn't agree more with you concerning the soccer stadium.
  2. YSU has already said.. the only we play Akron or Can't is if its a home and home, or an away-home-away series for YSU.So no matter what: only way you can increase your attendance at the expense of Youngstown, would be having to come here!
    Sorry...not gonna happen.
Love to know why??? YSU already outdraws Akron in attendance..... and it would benefit each school....... greatly! It has happened in the 80s and 90s.... Why Not Now???
Would YSU sign a home and home deal with a D2 team?

  4. The guys over at the MACbbs have just now found out about the UA scandal involving felons living in the dorms.Bonus:  they called us "Akron U" :nono:http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/phpbb/vi...pic.php?t=41544
Actually uakronkid, they've been pounding that one into the ground since it first broke. You can see another thread in the Smack forum. It's mostly the Can't pukes keeping that one alive. Every time the Beacon writes a story, they start another thread.
I usually try to avoid the smack forum. Maybe that's why I missed it up until now.
You are smart to do so.Rarely is there anything worthwhile to read.Actually, I'm getting a little tired of the MAC forum. A lot of it is the same old stuff over and over and over again.
  5. :DIf the soccer thing flops, the only thing it hurts is taxpayers. We get taxed for everything, now all of a sudden we are frugal? fI'm not sure that I have even heard how much the taxes will be for the average person.I noticed that when they needed to pass a tax for the AKRON zoo as a county issue, the zoo suddenly got named summit county zoo on the ballots.
Just for the record...I am always "frugal" when it comes to taxpayer money.Hey, I don't even smoke and smokers are the ones who will be paying the bill.Really Zen, I just see another big building in northern Summit county that we'll be trying to find a need for when the soccer team(s) fold.
  6. zip81, regardless if you are correct or not, basically what you are doing is attacking the soccer stadium because you perceive it as a threat to the zips football stadium.    To me, this is akin to lobbying the city to block a neighborhood resident on your street from trying to get his sidewalk fixed because your afraid it will hurt your chances to attempt the same thing.  Argh, crappy metaphor.  I am trying to find a way to verbalize how sickening it looks when people would go so negative on something else because they view it as a threat to something virtually distinct
No, No, No...I have NEVER based my opinion on the soccer stadium because of any perceived impact whatsoever on the Zips Stadium. As far as I'm concerned, they are two seperate issues.I feel the soccer stadium is a waste of taxpayer money. A soccer team will not be successful...period.NEVER have I said that I'm against the soccer stadium because it will hurt the Zips stadium. I have tried to be clear on this.Personally, I feel that the Zips will get their stadium even if they build the soccer stadium. I just feel the soccer stadium is a waste. Just build the shopping center. (without taxpayer money)I also want to say that this heated debate is just that...debate.I hurl no insults nor do I think any less of a person who disagrees. We're all Zips...right?Let me leave by saying one more thing :screwks:

  8. [The precident has already been set.Soccer will not draw in NE Ohio.We have the defunct teams to prove it..teams that were located in the city and the suburbs. This stadium is a waste of money.I hope it dies a quick one.
I would really love for you to explain what on Earth you are talking about that would show you have a clue what you are talking about.NE Ohio has not HAD a professional outdoor soccer team since the Cleveland Cobras in the 1970s, and has NEVER had a world class club (i.e. MLS).Good luck if you accept your mission.
Oh, excuse me. You are right. If we have an outdoor team, that will certainly draw thousands and thousands of fans each home game.... It doesn't matter..indoor or outdoor...professional soccer will not draw here.Too bad I had to explain that...you are nitpicking.Do you really think it makes a difference if the soccer is played indoor or outdoor as to whether it will draw fans?If you believe there is a difference then YOU are the clueless one and really reached to insult someone.
  9. F.Y.I. I live in Columbus and not to long ago Columbus Crew members were going door to door  trying to sell discounted ticket packages in an effort to get more fans to come to the games.During the 2005 season the Crew experienced their second worst average attendance since 1996 due to a poor season record. The team has three major supporters' groups: Legion 04, the V-Army, and Fort Knox.Their average attendance    * 1996: 18,950    * 1997: 15,043    * 1998: 12,275    * 1999: 17,696    * 2000: 15,451    * 2001: 17,551    * 2002: 17,429    * 2003: 16,250/Missed Playoffs    * 2004: 16,872/15,224    * 2005: 12,916/Missed Playoffs    * 2006: 13,294/Missed Playoffs    * All-Time: 16,344And the Macedonia soccer team wants a stadium how big?Columbus has a population much larger than Macedonia, what the hell do ya think is going to be the attending amount of people there?!
There is no comparing Columbus with this situation. It is just too different. The precident has already been set.Soccer will not draw in NE Ohio.We have the defunct teams to prove it..teams that were located in the city and the suburbs. This stadium is a waste of money.I hope it dies a quick one.
  10. ;) the ciggy tax CAN go through WITHOUT going to the ballot...why do think that wolstein et al want to go that direction?...cuz they are worried about people like us who WILL NOT vote for it...cuz a soccer stadium/team is stupid..but they are waving the promise of shopping centers etc under the noses of the local yokels to get them to buy it...but w/o the sucker stadium ALL else is off...my suggestion...contact the area state reps and senators....Kevin Coughlin...John Widdowfield...Kim Zurz...they are getting sucked in on this....tell them Uof A has contributed a hell of a lot more to this community since 1870 than the wolsteins or any politician...do it!!!
Yes, it is possible for the cig tax to be passed without putting it on the ballot. But there is no way in H E double hockey sticks that any politician would do that.It would be political suicide.
  11. I suspect that this is more like "neutral" news. Maybe it's a slight plus in that the whole notrthern Summit County soccer stadium/business development plan could be thought of as potential competition to UA's and other's plans for a stadium/shopping/residential development in areas like Spicer town.On another note, I am as big of a Zip fan (anatic) as any, but I have to say that if any of you actually think that a FB stadium with a seating capacity larger than 30K is in the works, I think you are dreaming. Yes, I do think it will be built and it will be successful in bringing more fans, students in particular, to games. But an INITIAL capacity of 35-42K just isn't realistic in any way, shape, or form. That's just my opinion. What would be wrong with something like the Glass Bowl, only an updated version?
I agree. 30K seems about right. However, should the earth quake and he!! freezes over, and Akron wins 5 straight MAC championships and we need a bigger stadium...I would do what they did to Canal Park...build it with the potential to make it bigger. But for now...30k is about right.
  12. Yes. It is true about Akron and Can't vetoing Youngstown State and supporting Buffalo into the MAC. If you don't believe me: call up Jim Tressel at the Ohio State University, or perhaps call up YSU.... I am sure they have the records since they made a big push for it.You are right it was never voted on, because Akron and Can't never let it get that far... It was all about Buffalo. There was a big thread on JJHuddle.com about this last week, and there were some very informing posts on there from those that do know more.I bet you guys also did not know that YSU Tried to schedule OSU in the mid-90s and it was going to happen until Cooper said no.... he did not want to risk losing to a I-AA team, even if there were a champion....Again.. You wonder why YSU made drawings to make Stambaugh Stadium into a bowl.. we were expecting to join the MAC... And I know our AD and he tells me he would love to go to the MAC, but money is now holding us back!AND YES: YOUNGSTOWN STATE Loss today... and I still showed up....Don't think of me as arrogant... just passionate...YTOWN LOVES FOOTBALL
Since you are such a great program...why don't you go IA Independent?Certainly YSU shouldn't bother with a crappy little mid-major like the MAC.As you can see from the MAC forum, there was a lot bigger effort to not letting YSU in than just Akron and Can't.My goodness, those Michigan schools won't hear about ANOTHER Ohio school in the conference.
  13. Zip81 is right on the money!
I don't think there is any way we would get an at-large bid to the show with this type of non-conf schedule.
Just listen to KD being interviewed by French post-game. He says as much. He unmistakably implies (on my read) that the non-MAC part of the schedule is being used to prepare the starting five and whatever bench players he can bring along to march through the MAC schedule and win the tournament and get the NCAA bid.The only chance for the MAC to get an at large is if the Zips win the tournament and the second place team is a team with some strength to its non-league schedule.
I just think back to those days with Coach Huggins when we were an independent....winning, what was it, 21, 22 games a year and still getting passed over for an at-large bid.At-large is very difficult for a mid-major.
  14. 2 Questions1. Besides Marshall, and Central Florida who was once but no longer a conference member.2. My original question did AKron and Can't reject YSU from entering the MAC, and if they did how? Please and Thanks,
When in doubt, go to the MAC experts.I posted this question on the MAC forum. Turns out the MAC never even voted on admitting Youngstown. And his accusations against Akron and Can't seem to be false. If anyone was against admitting YSU, it was the Michigan schools. As you will read, few MAC fans have any favorable comments about YSU.So our Penguin friend doesn't know what he is talking about.http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/phpbb/vi...pic.php?t=41343
  15. Ouch... either we win against Nevada or we don't have a leg to stand on in making a case for an at-large bid.
I don't think there is any way we would get an at-large bid to the show with this type of non-conf schedule. No, I'm afraid we have to win the MAC. Otherwise, it's the NIT....again.
