  1. I wonder how much of the frustration and defensiveness has to do with Buffalo getting their A$$e$ handed to them on Tuesday night? Jealousy can cloud facts when you haven't even sniffed a title, while your counterpart has won 3 titles in the last 5 yrs.
  2. I don't know about everyone else, but Hurley was the reason I was getting so fired up during that game. I haven't yelled that much in awhile. My voice was horse for 2 more days.
  3. Hmm. Interesting. Maybe I wasn't thinking about traveling students as much as people/alums/fans in general that go to those games. It seems like when we've played Ken+ in the past, they can do a pretty decent job of coming close to equaling us in total numbers. I don't see that from OU, although they do make an attempt to be very "together" and vocal.
  4. Not even Hurley? I'm tellin ya, this Hurley/McCrea union for one year seems like a match made in heaven to me. I wonder what UB fans will honestly say about all of this, after McCrea is gone this year, and Hurley jumps ship for another job if he caps off a successful season with a few more wins.
  5. FYI about playing in Cleveland: With Ken+ likely being unable to contend this year, Akron clearly has the homecourt advantage. It's like 3/4 of a home game for us. Ken+ is the only other school capable of bringing the numbers to Cleveland to make it seem anywhere close to "neutral" when Akron is playing.
  6. Just an FYI: I'll be kind and just let you know that lunging forward, arms extending, with both forearms and fists to the lower back is NOT a screen. Not even remotely close. You asked for video. You got video. You can't possibly find a way to dispute what we can all see.
  7. Exactly. There is no other way to see that. Only a hard shot to the lower back would make someone topple like that from behind. Especially someone as strong as Kretzer. Not a screen. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
  8. It should. But it won't.
  9. Yes, excellent find. Indisputable. Did you see how hard his head snapped? A guy like Kretzer, who is a strong former football player, could not be staggered straight to the ground like a rag doll from behind without a good shot to the lower back. It's obvious. Hurley and him must get along well.
  10. It's cool to look at this list. For instance, I would have never guessed that Shawn Roberts and George Phillips were that high on the list. And I thought that Mark Alberts would actually be higher on the list.
  11. Romeo was a great player and didn't win a championship (thanks for an inept clock operator in Cleveland). Ditto for Charles Barkley and Dan Marino, and hundreds of others in their respective sports. McCrea may have done some stupid crap, but he's been on the verge of being to top player in the league for a long time. And with Buffalo finally being one of the top teams in the league in his senior year, I think it's hard to pass him up for the award this year. Tree should have a great shot at being our next MVP next year.
  12. Thanks for moving this over, Dr. Z.
  13. WOW...Toledo's ineligibility last year totally screwed me up. Thanks for the correction. So, my original thought was right. #5 has to play Mon. AND Wed. #4 has a bye all the way until Thurs. So, how HUGE is this game on Friday now ??? By the way, I like the way the brackets are setting up for us if we get the #4. The only thing that would make it darn near perfect for me would be if EMU gets the #5 instead of OU, which would likely make them our quarterfinal opponent. And then, like I said earlier, WMU would be our semi opponent, and I like that matchup the best out of the top 3 seeds.
  14. Hang on. Maybe 5 and 6 get ONE bye. We've never been there, so I think I might have missed a step. EDIT: Geez this is more complicated than I thought. 6 thru 11 play on Monday 5 gets one bye to Wednesday 3 and 4 get two byes to Thursday So, yes, it appears as if our worst scenario is that we at least skip the Monday home game. This is based on what I see from last year.
  15. My thinking is that this might be the best scenario for us, if it turns out this way. I have the teams I'd least want to play in this order: 1. Toledo 2. Buffalo 3. WMU Your scenario would allow us to avoid the #1 and #2 teams on my list until the title game.
  16. Nope. Everyone in the #5 spot and below has to play a home game AND another game on Wednesday in order to decide the two teams that play the #3 and #4 seeds on Thursday. This new format makes the #4 and #5 spot a HUGE difference.
  17. Word is getting out that Khalil Mack's stock is rising, and he has a chance to be the #1 pick. Seems like a long shot, but could we ever imagine that MAC players would be the top pick in two consecutive years??
  18. LOL...no kidding. I guess there's two of them. I stand corrected. What was really interesting is that it also seemed like his asst. coaches were helping him lobby to the officials. I don't recall that anyone was sitting in the huddle "coaching" the players. Did anyone else notice this? He'll ultimately become an embarrassment for the school, and eventually for the league. I'll just bet that nobody at UB or the league office sees that right now.
  19. Speaking of Hurley....now that I've gotten to watch him for a game, I saw some interesting things, to say the least. 1) What coach spends 3/4 of his timeouts talking to the officials? 2) What coach is classless enough to go after an opposing player? (Diggs) I'd love to know what was said. 3) I also noticed him yelling at the Zips fans in the first row right behind his bench. I'd love to know what was said there also. Again, Classless. 4) I've never seen a coach run out on the floor as often as him. Ever. They could have given him 2 T's and booted him in the first 5 min., if they wanted to. However, I do see that Zips fans will have a reason to get excited about playing Buffalo for however long that he is their coach, even if it's just to watch his despicable side show. I loved the "Bobby's Gonna Cry" and "Bobbbbyyyyyyy" chants.
  20. A drop of 1,000 when everyone was predicting/hoping that attendance would trend upward over the last 3 games, following a win last Saturday, playing a quality opponent, a MAC tourney bye on the line, and a bobblehead giveaway night ? Yes, disappointing. NOTE: Student participation made a nice reappearance last night.
  21. It sure appears like you are right this time. Proenza bobblehead night draws 3,000 (announced)? For a big matchup? Tons of no-shows in the lower bowl. What a downer after a decent crowd to play crappy BG last weekend.
  22. Our best game of the year, and still a little short handed. Outstanding. This is what scares me about Buffalo: We need to score 80 to beat them. That's asking a lot of our offense. But, we've done it against them twice. I have to wonder if we'd be capable of shooting like that again, if we have to play them in Cleveland.
  23. First, please keep in mind that there were far more than 1.500 empty seats. The entire lower bowl is considered FILLED for attendance counting purposes every home game, regardless of who actually shows up. It's been that way the entire season. However, I do agree that the BG crowd was surprisingly larger than expected for the circumstances. But, I like that you brought up the "Gonzaga of the East". Is it possible that the level of competition that we are beating is possibly getting as boring to the casual supporters as it appears to be getting to some of the long-time regulars? Even some people on this board? Does the game-day anticipation wane after you spend 10 years pretty much doing the same thing? I think the lack of game day posts on this board during the course of this season might be giving us the answer. I think we're becoming desperately in need of an "eye-opening" win.
  24. Yes, even Joe Dunn commented about Hurley's behavior after the road game at Buffalo. This is a call-out to the Rowdies over by the Buffalo Bench: YOU GUYS BETTER BE GETTING ALL OVER THAT JERK TONIGHT !!
  25. I remember it well !! And back then, very few people even lived on campus, and we all WANTED to be there, and found a way to get there. Did we have less options for things to keep people occupied back then? I'll blame phones with internet connections for the change in student participation. Heck, even my own wife, who is an extremely vocal Zips fan and well past student age, will sit down during parts of the game to read and sent messages to people.
