In defense of my friends who went to Penn State, Columbus does have a few more hotels than State College, PA.

johnnyzip84...you missed the important words in that report......Gardner Webb

g-mann 17....THANK YOU !!!This guy keeps ignoring facts, and frankly there's nothing more we can do. Charlie's QB rating, as all of us have stated, is right on par or ahead of where most QBs are at this point in their career. And considering the situation Cleveland is in right now...that REALLY says a lot.

ZipsWin....BirdZip....nice to see that some people don't just talk, and are truly raising their kids to be ZIPS fans, period, and not Zips fans only when that other school down at the other end of the state is not playing. If there were more like you, we'd be getting somewhere. Nice job.

Folks. I have coaching in my blood, but I am not going to say I know what JD knows. I'm sure that, in his opinion, he is using the resources, and strategies he has at his disposal, to the best of his ability, to make our kicking game as good as it can be.With that said, I'm just dissappointed that we have not recruited well in this area as of late. Akron has seemed to always be fairly solid at punter and kicker over my 25+ years as a student and fan.

Sorry, should have clarified.....FIRST 16 GAMES AS A STARTER.Charlie only started a handful of games his first season. And please don't tell you want to debate over Manning's rating possibly being 1 point higher than Charlie's. Dude, I'm not trying to argue with you. We're here to support, and share information about the Zips. I'm only explaining to you that NOBODY in the NFL will tell you that they can predict the future of an NFL QB by how they perform early in their career. QBs usually perform very poorly in their first 16 starts, however, Charlie has performed better than, or equal to most of them.Does this mean he will be a great QB? Again, we don't know. But it's surely a good sign. Charlie won the starting job. Anderson was nothing more than a charade to push Charlie to get better. For God's sake, he narrowly escaped the waiver wire. Now, if you don't mind, lets get back to supporting the current Zips.

zen...it's not worth your time. I've wasted too much time on this guy already. I've explained FACTS to him as well, including how Charlie's QB rating is better than, or equal to, the QB ratings of the current starters in the NFL during their first 16 games as a starter. It's even better than Peyton Manning. If you couple this with Charlie's lack of a supporting cast, you can see that he's ahead of pace at this point in his career, compared to others at his position.I'm guessing that he would have cut Manning after about 2 seasons, if he follows the same logic he tries to use with Frye. This isn't a guarantee that Frye will continue to grow. But it's sure a good sign. However, our great ZipsNation NFL Scout-level talent evaluator somehow finds a way to draw a different conclusion.

UA David. I noticed that too. They were playing towards the visiting side, and I couldn't hear them that well.
-
I'm just happy as heck that we can go 3-deep at the tailback spot. But, for what it's worth, I think Allen is the best. Only time will tell.
-
UADavid...thank you. I couldn't have stated it better myself.

If so, too late for Charlie, unfortunately.

I agree. As a Browns fan, we will soon have to justify our all-eggs-in-one-basket gamble on draft day, and see what Quinn can do in the starting lineup. I hope it works. As for Charlie, his best place will be elsewhere when that happens. Because, unfortunately, when Quinn begins to take the same pounding that Frye has taken, the fans will demand another draft pick to come in and save the day, and not Charlie. Once again, Charlie has shown his guts and determination in the face of adversity. That had to be mentally draining, more than anything else, to persevere and win that starting job under the circumstances he's been put under this year.
-
I'm surprised sgm even came on here to comment. He's been on here since the Browns started practices in the spring, insisting over and over again that Derek Anderson should start. The Result? Anderson narrowly missed being cut, while Charlie Frye rose above all 4 contenders to become the starter. The Browns used Anderson as a smoke screen all along to push Charlie, and you bought into it. You liked the way Anderson played last year? Are you referring to his inability to lead us to ANY scores until garbage-time during the Steelers game? Or, his 4 interceptions against Tampa Bay? Take your pick. If this doesn't show you how far off you were on your "evaluation" of the Browns' quarterbacks, I can't help you.

All I know is, JD keeps looking thinner. I swear that guy was 50 lbs. heavier when he came here 3 years ago. Is he ok?
-
GP1...I was just about to commend you for being a man and admitting you were wrong. Then, I read your second comment. The fact is, we told you all along that he is Cleveland's best QB. The Anderson charade was all a smoke screen by the Browns, and you bought into it.Good luck with your career as a prognosticator from here forward. You've shown us all just how good you are at evaluating NFL talent.

This reminds me...When I was walking towards my seats at Browns Stadium Saturday night, I saw this woman with a group of young girls trailing behind her. They all had on Zips gear, and couldn't be over about 10 years old.As I was walking, I noticed that a couple of the girls would yell "Z-I" and the others would yell "P-S". I just thought that was so cool.We need other parents around here to bring up their kids that way. If not, they will become Suck Nuts fans, and all will be lost.
-
Listen. I'm a huge Zips fan, and I am not going to predict a great upset, but I will just say this....Much like 2001, this is a good time to play the Suckeyes. Although, I wish maybe we were playing them with a more experienced offense.Anyway, I like the idea of playing against a rookie QB, and an OL that many said last week was not gettting a good push against a 1-AA team's defensive front. These are good signs. Because, let's face it, our only chance to win is to keep the score as low as possible.

GP1.... I used to spend time in Columbus on business as well. I used to go into the city to conduct business during the day, and then I would come back to my hotel far outside of the city at night. I did that by choice. I must admit, I do the same thing when I go to Cleveland. But as much as people brag about how Columbus has gotten nicer over the years, those changes have primarily taken place in the SUBURBS and not in the CITY. I read an article recently about how the U of OS officials are getting very concerned about how the city's problem areas are starting to infiltrate into the campus area. I guess they are really scrambling to find a solution to isolate themselves.

And the last I remembered, Zippy was in the competition as one of the top 10 mascots in the country, and the nut head was not.

Class of 82...I said this on another thread, but I will repeat it again here.I know a lot of people who are college football fans who have had the means to travel all over the country to watch games. Some of them are even Suckeyes fans. And all of them candidly talk about how classless the Suckeyes fans are. In fact, most of them admit that fans of The University of Ohio State are the worst when it comes to harrassing visiting fans as well. One of my friends, who is a die hard Suckeyes fan, once had to defend a Washington fan who was getting harrassed, and getting objects thrown at him, WHILE HE WAS INSIDE THE STADIUM SITTING IN HIS SEAT.Does everyone also remember the State Troopers having to be called in to clear the field by spraying tear gas a few years ago?I bet that leaves quite an impression on the nation. It may not be the students' fault. Moreso, it's the total hilljacks from Southern Ohio who converge on Columbus every weekend in the fall.

Once again, just like the Rubber Bowl, they are trying to throw long-time season ticket holders in other sections, and save the good seats for large donors (or, in this case, those willing to pay $45).There's two ways to look at this. One is that they are trying to make money, which is great. But, can you afford to do that at the expense of alienating loyal supporters? The biggest point is this...There were plenty of seats left in the middle of the field last weekend, just as there are plenty of seats in the middle sections of the Rubber Bowl to accomodate both your season ticket holders, and your big donors. It's just not necessary.
-
I know quite a few people, even Suckeyes fans, who say that the hillbillies down in southern Ohio who come to their games are some of the WORST in the country when it comes to harrassing visiting fans. So, as far as I am concerned, everything is fair game this week !! on those guys in the red and silver.

Big Zip. I'm not going to bash you for being an OSU lover. I know that's not the case. But, what game were you watching Saturday night at Browns Stadium?Army's offense only scored 7 points, and that was early in the game. The other 7 points came on a blocked punt with only a few seconds left in the game. And I wasn't one of the people making these grand predictions. I was only stating that if OSU can't run the football, and must throw, they are going against the biggest strength of our team...our defensive secondary.Sure, I have many question marks about this team, such as our inability to convert 3rd downs, and our lack of a pass rush. But overall, with all of the new players we have, I am at least confident that we can have a .500 team, as I predicted during the summer.
-
akronad....you're right. All of the season ticket holder I know where put in the sections around the 10 and the goal line. No season ticket holder I know were put anywhere near the middle of the field. They obviously wouldn't think about thanking their longtime loyal fans by giving them good seats.

My OSU vs. Akron analysis:I know some people that were at the YSU game, and here's what I'm thinking.Tressel kept insisting on running the ball, even though they were having difficulty. YSU came prepared to stop the run. And according to some friends, OSUs new offensive line was having difficulty pushing YSUs defensive front. But eventually, OSU started throwing more, and had some success. That won't happen against us. If they have to throw, our DBs are the most talented part of our team. They won't have as much success airing it out as they did against the Penguins.
