  1. That's not true. This situation does indeed affect Charlie's situation in many ways.1) If Quinn does not sign, there's no starting quarterback controversy.2) If Quinn signs and gets big money, the Browns will be more leary about putting him into the lineup until they have a better supporting cast to protect him. Which once again gives Charlie an opportunity to prove his worth to the Browns, or whichever team he eventually gets traded to. There shouldn't be any "meet in the middle". If you get picked where Quinn got picked, you shouldn't get top-5 money. And if Cleveland gives him anything close to that, then they've dug their hole even deeper.
  2. Captain. Sure, it's summertime, and news is slow, but this is a great find!!Did you remember that guys name? Or, did you just happen to run across the article? If you remembered his name all of this time, I tip my hat to you. I was in my last year of school at the time, and remember listening to that game on radio while I was working that night. And the truth is, 20 years later, that soccer still remains as our only real legitimate chance for a team to ever win a national championship at the Div. 1 level.
  3. That guy above LeBron's left hand does indeed look like it could be Romeo Travis. But what's the chances? There are 20,000+ people in that crowd.
  4. No, you're not the only one who thought this was a bad decision. We had much, much bigger problems to address than the quarterback spot. All you had to do was to watch how well Jeff Garcia played in Philadelphia last year to know that. And when you add in that we surrendered next year's first round pick, which would have likely been another high pick, you're not going to be able to add any more high-level talent through the draft for at least two more years. I hate to be negative, but I just have a bad feeling that this whole situation was a big mistake for the Browns, and the post Savage/Crennel administration will be the ones left to deal with the mess. Besides that...I hope Charlie has a chance to throw the ball this year. If not, I hope he gets traded to a place where he has enough talent around him to get a legitimate opportunity to show what he's got.
  5. Captain...I like that you brought up point #4. Brian Hilk is a good friend of mine, and deserves more recognition then he got when he played here. It was pretty easy to be overlooked when you played ILB next to John Clark. I really don't think anyone is questioning the LB and Secondary situation. But it's legitimate to think that the offense is a very big question mark right now.
  6. That was my point. Having this many kids slipping into ineligibility just makes no sense. Sure, this will happen to a few kids here and there. But I would think that there are people that are monitoring these situations, and can help before it's too late.
  7. I just hope the Zips receiving corp does not become similar to the Browns OL corp, with enough guys being eliminated from the mix that they have to go and find people off the streets to fill roster sports. This continues to get worse. Although, I think most fans had already written off Johnny Long as a contributor. We might be going with two TE's, and Arthur out wide, and run the old Woody Hayes offense from the 70's.
  8. I'd still rather see us go after the best players. With most of these kids, you can work with them enough to keep them eligible.I remember sitting at the spring game this year, not being very impressed with the receivers, and saying "well, Arthur and Harvey aren't here". Now it looks like those receivers we saw in spring ball are actually now going to be a part of the mix. I'm a little worried.
  9. HulaZip...I sure hope you're wrong. What a sad way for us to lose our most promising big-play guy. This offense was going to desperately need a guy like him next year. This is not the kind of news you want to get during the off-season. Just hope someone else comes along to fill those shoes.
  10. That yellow color definitely indicates that it's an Owens-era jersey. The two company logos indicate our sponsor for gear, and our sponsor specifically for shoes.
  11. I sure hope the other games pan out. If not, we're in the same boat as last year.
  12. You have to assume that the guy was not all that knowledgeable about the NFL. Based on his answer and comments, he didn't know the college affiliation of the NFL Defensive MVP, or the college affiliations of the starting NFL Quarterbacks. If you follow the NFL on a weekly basis, you should at least know one of these two things.
  13. That had to be funny seeing Florida Atlantic playing their home games in Dolphins Stadium. I just hope people don't get the same humor out of the Zips playing Army at Browns Stadium.
  14. I somehow missed the "We Got Wood" sign.
  15. Zip Watcher...that reminds me. At the MAC championship game, I saw someone with a sign that said "Fear The Roo", and they crossed out "Roo" and wrote "Wood".I've been laughing about that ever since.Now....I'd like to see someone take that a step further and sell "Fear The Wood" tee shirts prior to next season. I haven't seen them in Wal-Mart yet, but I keep looking.
  16. Another Observation....We're scheduled to play our games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. But some teams have the luxury of playing Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. I wonder if that was just an unlucky draw? Not sure how they determined that. Question:Does anyone have an early scouting report on South Carolina Upstate? They actually have a budget that allows them to travel to Fairbanks to be a whipping post for the projected tournament favorite? I think this could possibly be the next destination for the dynamic duo of Heath and Hipsher.
  17. A friend of mine in high school got stationed in Fairbanks while he was in the Army. He said the only thing to do there in the winter was to go to a bar and drink. But, I have a feeling that's what most of us would be doing no matter where this tournament was located.
  18. I'd like to see the estate of the late John Belushi cough up $20 million, in which case we could call it Blutarski Stadium, after his famous Animal House character.
  19. In evaluating our coaches, I like to give a little bit of a break to Gerry Faust since he was the one who had to start the 1-A program from scratch. And he still did decent. Not that I think he's a great coach or anything. I'm going to look at JD objectively over the next couple of years. He has indeed won a championship for us. But after last year, I'm not quite sure where he's going from here.I do have to agree with some people that are saying that this year might even be worse than last year. I think everyone has to admit that the 2006 team looked better on paper than the 2007 team. But lets hope he can start to make use of some good recruiting classes, and pull these guys together and turn it back around.
  20. I also wonder how much Sporting News even knows about non-BCS coaches. Here's my opinion.Let's see what JD can do the next couple of years. We keep hearing about all these great recruiting classes, and now is the time to show it on the field. Last year ended up being a flop, and a couple of those big-time recruiting classes were already here. If that happens again, we'll have to really start questioning. I really think he has quite a bit of work ahead of him in the next few months to get the offense going for this year.
  21. I like the idea of having some of your fastest guys playing corner. This can completely change the way you play defense. If you have guys on the corners that can keep up with any WR, they need less safety help. This is the kind of situation that can really give you a top notch defense.
  22. Captain Kangaroo. I agree that it is our apathetic history that is the problem. I'd love to see us turn that around. Yes, time will tell. But presently, we're a long way from where we need to be to even get onto the radar of a high-level conference.I wish that wasn't the case, because I hate to sound negative about potential moves that could upgrade athletics for my Zips.
  23. I've never even heard of Hartwick.Uakronkid....getting into a conference like the Big East in all sports is not a matter of us deciding that we want to switch conferences. I'd bet that Akron would move to the Big East in a second. But I can assure you, with our limited ability to generate revenue and fan support, we're complete off their radar.
  24. The history of the NFL does not conveniently ignore 2006.
