  1. I'm with those who have pointed out that he's finished 6th, 5th, 3rd and 3rd in the MAC EAST. Not the MAC, just the East Division!! Not impressed. Looks like he slipped from the middle of the pack to the back of the pack during his tenure at Illinois too. No doubt I'd take the 3 tournament wins he has. But, he hasn't even gotten into the tournament 4 years straight now. And one of his appearances with OU was by pulling a rabbit out of a hat with a team that finished way back in the standings. I don't know. I don't like the guy. And I'm certainly not going to give him too much credit for his overall ability to produce based on a couple of games when I see the whole picture in the 1st paragraph above.
  2. I know the spot you're talking about now. I had no idea that was their parking lot. Hey, I can hold my own. My Sumner house was past Thornton near the highway. Amazingly, most of those houses are still standing.
  3. Article? He can do that. How about going out and practicing some real Journalism and uncovering some information and reporting on it ?
  4. Spoiled !! You needed to endure some of the ghetto living that some of the rest of us experienced. It builds character And I came to Akron from the country, so this place was a complete culture shock to me.
  5. The Townhouse had a parking lot? I guess I wouldn't remember because I always walked there. I remember when that place was so popular that people would stand outside in a snowstorm with no coat on, to wait in line to get in there. The groups of people standing out there would often even venture into the street and block traffic. And once you got in, you couldn't move anyway, or get to the bar or bathroom. Crazy times. Now that I'm in my mid-50's, if I see a bar like that today, I turn around and go somewhere else.
  6. You know, these kinds of conversations remind me of how much we all have in common (besides just being Zips fans), as opposed to all of the time we spend here arguing and criticizing each other. It's refreshing and entertaining. We need more of that.
  7. That's definitely bonus points.
  8. If you were far enough down Brown St.,, you get some extra "street cred" points.
  9. I'd be more impressed if you said you spent your 4 years of college on Kathryn Place. i only have big, bad "Sumner Street" to brag about.
  10. And to add to that, I think it says something about your program when people see this D-1 school from Ohio that has a player from Las Vegas and Houston, etc. I think it can demonstrate to some people that you have some notoriety and have a reach that's far greater than your area. On several occassions over the last few years, I've had people look at me and say......"Your PG is from Vegas?" So, it has some fascination with fans. I'm sure most of the "Joe Akron's" out there don't see Akron as having to ability to reach players like that.
  11. I should have mentioned this earlier as well. Many coaches have agents. And to make all of this activity seam even more "disloyal" than people already think it is, these guys are always looking for better opportunities for the coaches they work for.
  12. I'm generally in agreement here. As a fan, I think it's cool when we have Akron boys, and even Ohio boys to some extent. But in my desire to win, I want us to go wherever we need to go to get the best players.
  13. This is an interesting statement. Putting a fence around Akron would be great, but these kids don't need Akron to stay "local". I believe we have 13 D-1 programs in this State? And with Dayton, Xavier and Cincinnati being national title competitive? And 4 of those D-1 schools are within an hour of Akron? I think it's very realistic to be out-recruiting the other Ohio MAC schools. Beyond that, it's tough to compete against a few of the others unless maybe they fall on some misfortune and the landscape changes. On the plus size, this isn't football. You only need a few guys a year. And there's only 2 choices in NE Ohio in D-1A.
  14. I mostly agree. But that's not was I was responding to. I was responding to someone who wanted D-1 Coaching Success, and I was questioning whether someone who's already had D-1 head coaching success would be attainable for us, unless they were at a lower level than Akron.
  15. That's not who made contact with TB to gauge interest. It was a corporate sponsor.
  16. I could have guessed that was coming.
  17. When it showed him with the Duquesne logo behind him, standing at the podium......I had to turn it off.
  18. ZIP....you'd be interested to know that this article even states that Loyer was actually considered a Finalist for our job back then. http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/1995-03-30/sports/9503300092_1_hipsher-stetson-akron-job FYI.....Loyer's son is also an early verbal to Michigan State for the 2018 class. Could dad change that and instantly make him our first big-time recruit?
  19. Ok, then lets say "low level" successful D-1 coach, and we might have a shot.
  20. Man, does that name always bring back memories. As a teenager growing up in Cleveland, I used to go see Clark play in that ancient gym they had at St. Joseph high school.
  21. If these 2 qualifications are possessed by the same person, he's looking much higher than Akron. I had to laugh at this......Except for the end of the Ball State game at home, when it led directly to a game winning bucket.
  22. I thought this was wrong, but you're exactly right. I thought we were #1 and OU was #2 going into the MAC tourney in 2012. But, Buffalo was the #2 that year, and OU was #3. .
  23. You talkin about Peggy Elliott? If you recall, she infamously is given credit for switching us to that bright yellow color on the football unis too. Great story about promoting Loyer. Yes, I think everyone believes that the incident in Cincinnati was a "throw someone else under the bus" scenario. That doesn't concern me. The lack of recruiting experience does. Although, his relationships with High Schools from his 10 years in Cincinnati might be good, but maybe too long ago. Isn't he currently an NBA Scout? How much money do they make?
