  1. I appreciate your thoughts. I was adding my own. I meant that people might have seen our offense as simple and boring, versus some other "more exciting" offense. Been there, done that. So I might disagree with you on parts of what you said. But overall, when it comes to specific play strategy I always recognize that I am not the one that's running that particular team every day, and knows those players and their abilities, plus the opponents players and abilities anywhere near as well as that coach of that team. Every time we used a high post in man situations, it appeared that it was always Kwan high, and Big Dog low. I'll trust that they felt this was the best option. And for the most part, I understand and agree with it. I actually find it rather interesting and entertaining, based on a few 3-pointers during an all-star game, that we are even having a conversation regarding "what could have been" with Big Dog as an offensive player further and further way from the basket.
  2. Maybe it could have been more entertaining. And it may sound simple and boring. But like I said, I don't know how you take a guy out of the low post who was able to muscle the ball into the basketball against nearly any defender in the league. Maybe if we had another effective scorer down low, that would have been possible. But in our case, we could only afford to post him up high under certain situations. You need not say any more than that. That's what an all-star game is. That should be the end of any dialogue that has "Big Dog" and "3-Pointers" connected in the same sentence.
  3. I was wondering when this would come up. We were very effective with him in the high post against EMU this year. But that's a little bit different situation with that Zone. We played it by making the two wing defenders have to watch guys standing in both corners, which allowed for the back cuts when Dog pulled out their only defender in the paint. In one-on-one situations, those back cuts are harder to find. So, then you'd have to question why your best one-on-one scorer in the low post is holding the ball near the foul line. All of this depends on each particular sequence, and how they play it. But I just wanted to point out that there's a lot more to it than simply thinking that he may have been just as valuable at the high post in either situation.
  4. Then based on K92's original estimate, you will officially double the Beacon Journal's coverage over the last 3 years.
  5. You also missed all of the empty seats in the upper end zone sections on the other side too, in a picture that was clearly taken at the same time as the video that was filming all of the empty seats in the opposite end zone.
  6. You could probably count 1,800 empty seats in just those sections shown on the video, alone. But trying to change the subject to get me to debate the actual number of no-shows has nothing to do with the point that I made. Here's my post near the top of the thread indicating that enthusiasm for a Spring Game is affected by a poor finish to the previous season, which was in response to a post that indicated that Ohio State would not be affected by it. 2015- 99,000 2016- 100,000 2017 - 82,000 "distributed", with plenty of no-shows. No "agenda" or "hatred" to stand in the way of the facts here. And no bias or favoritism either. I've already stated that I expect enthusiasm for our own Spring Game to be similarly impacted.
  7. It appears that my "agenda" must have caused thousands of people to decide not to use their 82,000 "distributed" tickets on Saturday in Cowlumbus https://www.landof10.com/ohio-state/watch-joey-bosa-ezekiel-elliott-honored-ohio-state-spring-game The poster on this board who jumps at the chance to defend a competitor at every opportunity, and insists that we focus on "just the facts", might have wanted to heed the warning I issued in a previous post about fan enthusiasm for Spring Games being affected by bad finishes to the previous season. It even happens at the almighty Ohio Stadium. Yes, it's too bad that several side sections were closed for renovations. It looks like all of these people packed into the end zone seats like sardines in the video could have really used those seats
  8. I'm guessing that answer would be NO, unless someone has seen something. I didn't see anything in the paper today. "Business as usual" it seems.
  9. That could be true. But I wouldn't say that it's visible. Late in the season, Nick was at one of our homes games (I don't know if anyone else saw him). My wife and I were lingering around on the edge of the floor after the game chatting with some people, and Nick was over there near the locker room entrance waiting for Keith to come out for his radio interview. When he came out, they hugged each other and looked genuinely happy to see each other.
  10. That's seriously not very far from being accurate. Sad that we can't get our own paper to attend practices/scrimmages and simply report back with their opinion of what they saw. That seems like the minimum of what we should expect.
  11. Just that part, alone, surely puts him ahead of many higher end D-1 college basketball players, in terms of fulfilling his obligation and respecting what he's been given here. Unless I hear about him bashing the NCAA or anyone else who affords him this opportunity, or posts "Ain't Come to Play School" on his twitter page, he's OK in my book.
  12. Quick and/or Stupid. We surely all had plenty of them. I actually just recently got reminded of this while participating in an event where area business execs met with soon-to-be college graduates to give them advice on their futures. And every time I've done something like this, I'm reminded that I am way too far removed from that age to understand their thinking about their future career life, and feel somewhat powerless to be able to alter it in any significant way. For the most part, kids will think like kids until they are old enough to understand things differently.
  13. I "think" that based on the history of our Spring Game. Your "at least" number would be a record. So I'll ask the same question you just asked me. What conditions do you see that would make you believe that this would be the year that interest in Akron Football would be at an all-time high for April? Losing your last 4 games, having a losing record, and no bowl bid would probably indicate that interest right now is pretty low in comparison to some other years. But yes, I agree that 2,400 SHOULD be an attainable number. But obviously it's not.
  14. Just do what Ohio State fans do when you tell them how bad their basketball program sucks. Try to argue that they won a title 59 years ago. I think you're right on. This coach needs to save all of the talent that he can. Especially a Sr. PG. If not, he's knows that his chances of a very slow start is much greater. I don't quite know why some people are being so critical of the situation, and insinuating that he's "playing games", etc. He's a guy who is probably transferring, but might be reconsidering. Happens all the time. Just like the discussions we've already been having, we have fans, donors, sponsors, players....everyone involved....in a cloud of uncertainty right now. We've been fortunate that we've been in such a period of stability for so long. We're just not accustomed to this.
  15. Figuring that the record is 2,200, and I don't see anything that's happened recently that would persuade any outsiders to want to be there, I think I'd be real happy to see 2k. The others are right though. It's a great time if the weather is nice, and a great way to spend a Saturday in late April when everyone in Akron is really getting anxious to spend some time outside. And it is indeed FREE.
  16. Based on the 100K they've gotten in some recent years, you'll need a miracle to prove your point. They distributed 20k less tickets this year, and stopped at 82k. And they'll certainly be well short of that with no-shows. We hit a record with 2,200 a few years ago. Please, tell us what you're seeing/hearing that will push us well over our previous record.
  17. Hmm...Well, if you've never been to an Akron spring game, I hate to burst your hopes, but we'll get somewhere in the neighborhood of 1k to 2k or so under the best weather conditions. I'm glad OSWho "distributed" plenty of tickets, but I don't expect that they will get the high turnout that they have gotten at times in the past after they tanked the way they did at the end of last season.
  18. You shouldn't even need to explain that. I hope some of the responses above were not serious.
  19. I'm amazed that you know enough about Duquesne to reach a conclusion like that. But that's still not what I believe is puzzling people. We're still talking about a couple of guys who may not have ever found their way in the MAC, and placing them on an A-10 roster, when they are trying to get from the bottom to the top part of the league. It makes no sense. Those guys will now tie up scholarships for 1 year, plus 3 years of play. That's a big commitment that says that you want these guys to be a big part of what you are doing, when you are seriously devoid of the talent you need to even get competitive in that league. All I can think is that some of the people on Akron's old staff who are now at Duquesne believe so much in the guys they recruited that they are convinced that major improvement is on the horizon for them.
  20. I hope it's not a VERY long process, but I doubt if a couple of late plug-ins are going to do us much good right now. It might be close to approaching an extensive rebuild, which I was hoping could be avoided.
  21. That's kinda what I'm thinking. Good luck to them turning the corner anytime soon in the A-10 with MAC bench players.
  22. We're thrilled to hear that, Rob's family member. Thanks for joining Zips Nation.
  23. I wish. But it's not small change in the cases i know about. Others will have to speak for themselves. I think I've already said too much already. And since I feel like you might have responded as if you're directing your anger at me, please know that I am not planning any change. I'm actually a bit disappointed in some cases in what I am seeing in some of the e-mails I am reading. But, some people are pissed, and certainly have a right to feel however they want to feel.
  24. I hope you saw what happened when people became disenchanted with the last President here. People and Companies do speak with their wallets and bank accounts. This kind of stuff happens all the time. Not surprised.
