...except for the "lady" from the convention registration that started screaming "GO AWAY" in the cheerleaders' faces shortly after the pep rally started. Was that not one of the most classless things you've ever seen out of a "professional"? I wonder if she's been fired yet..."Lady"--> <--MeOf course, it did make for a bit of extra fun when the band purposefully directed their horns toward the doors from outside.

Agreed. I'd like to see a basketball schedule with a nice balance on it. A few cupcakes, a number of solid mid-majors, and a few of the majors. I'm just not ready to bash next year's schedule when it hasn't come out yet. Now, if it's OK with everyone, I'm going to spend a few more weeks enjoying that the Zips are .

OK, so I asked why we're complaining when perhaps we're just discussing, but it just seemed to me we're already implying next year's schedule won't be up to par and we haven't even seen it yet! This year's schedule was better than last year's--let's see what we come up with. And as for the Toledo game, yes we had to hit a couple of last-second shots, but we hit them! When we should have won a game but lost it, we label them as crapping down their legs. When they win a game they had no chance of coming back and winning, we go the "could have lost it there" route. Don't miss the significance of that Toledo game! Their legs came out clean! They found the Imodium, took it, and while their tummies may have been a little rumbly, they didn't implode. These are freshman and sophomores and toward the end they started winning the games where they were buried. They didn't fold, they rallied. Turning point?!?!?And finally, to look at one season and say, "Well, anything can happen"--that's fine. Two years aren't statistically significant. But when you look at a 6-year stretch where it's a continuous upward trend, claiming that means nothing seems a little like an ostrich with its head in the sand. "I refuse to acknowledge what's right before me."

2004--Made it to MAC Opening Round2005--Made it to MAC Quarterfinals2006--Made it to MAC Semifinals (NIT bid)2007--Made it to MAC Championship (should have been NIT bid)2008--Made it to MAC Championship, NIT bid2009--Won MAC Championship, made it to NCAA first round2010--Zeke shows up...2011--Zeke followers show up...Why are we complaining again about how things are progressing? Why are we complaining about schedules when it's working? If I graph the above, the way I'm seeing it, 2015 is going to be one hell of a year!

Just wanted to finish this out with the final numbers:Nate Linhart's College Career (134 games):Points = 1,023Rebounds = 628Steals = 186Assists = 176Turnovers = 175Blocks = 53Floor Burns = 134+Minutes = 3,377Fouls = 349FT% = 76% (183-240)FG% = 43% (354-814)3FG% = 37% (132+361)Record = 93-41 (0.694) (excluded DII's)Now, at the risk of getting yelled at for a jinx, who's next? I'll go with the following:Shoe InsBrett McKnight (508 pts through 62 games)Humpty Hitchens (307 pts through 35 games)Have a ChanceChris McKnight (626 pts through 102 games)--looking good for all-time games played tooDarryl Roberts (400 pts through 62 games)Longer ShotsSteve McNees (382 pts through 70 games)Nikola Cvetinovic (162 pts through 36 games)For comparison, Linhart's numbers by year (cumulative) were 171, 355, 653, 1023.

He's taught to do that. His job on the screen is to get in front of the guy with the ball and stop his progress so that his defender can catch back up. When his man rolls, it is the rest of the team's responsibility to help him until; he gets back. Mike's a little slower on his feet so he has a more difficult time cutting the guy off, but that's his job in this defense on that screen. If you watch, you'll see others do it all the time on that screen near the top of the key.

Where did you see that? macreportonline says Jordan Mincy is Defensive POY.

Ellen Alexander Offers Strong Words on Singletary
BirdZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
How about this quote. Any other team and you wouldn't think anything of it. With Can't, though, it's a tad bit scary:"Fish said early in the game, We're not going to lose,' " Parks said. "I just kept reminding him, Be a killer.' " -
Anybody got a video of the punch they can post here?

You're an idiot. I have more to say, but don't want to waste my time responding to that. I think "you're an idiot" pretty much covers it.

On a related note, I thought the Greeks in attendance at the OU game were pathetic. Half of them didn't seem to realize there was a game going on, and the only time they made any noise was when a chicken sandwich was on the line or burritos were flying into the stands. Then, with 6:29 left in the game, about 80% of them left. Must have been a party somewhere at 9:00.

Silly Rabbit. The Zips are supposed to win EVERY game!

I absolutely concur. In fact, I might even argue that an extra home game might not be such a bad thing for a young team. Hey if you lose a home MAC tourney game, you don't really deserve to be in Cleveland anyway. And I'm not buying the "they'll get tired with the extra game" argument. UA is as deep as any team in the league. These are 18, 19, 20 and 21 year old kids for Pete's sake. Endurance should NOT be an issue.I'm trying to figure out who the Zips beat this year that they were supposed to lose to. Looking through the schedule and results, I can't find one. You might make an argument for Niagara.Where does the extra home game come from? All tourney games are at the Q. And of course endurance is an issue. They're young and have better stamina than us old folks but that also means that they put forth a stronger effort than us old folks. An extra game sandwiched in between the Can't State game and a 3-games-in-3-nights run will take a toll.

I don't think the tie-breaker is just Miami in that case. I think it's Miami and BG together since they have the same record, in which case it's another tie. How about this scenario, unlikely though it may be:Thursday:Can't beats BuffaloAkron beats OhioMiami beats BGSunday:Ohio beats BGAkron beats Can'tBuffalo beats MiamiFinal records:Akron 11-5Buffalo 11-5BGSU 10-6Miami 10-6Can't State 9-7Ohio 8-8Tiebreakers (Akron vs Buffalo):Head to head: Tie (1-1)Against BG/Miami combined: Tie (2-2)Against Can't State: Akron wins (2-0 vs 1-1) (Even if Ball State gets to 9-7, they beat Buffalo)Is this the last thread of hope we have to cling to? Can I have a ruling please?
-
Linhart through and including the BGSU debacle (127 games):Points = 941Rebounds = 573Steals = 173Assists = 169Turnovers = 160 (spiking lately)Blocks = 50Floor Burns = 127+Still a possibility, but likely would need either to miss the bye in (hopefully not) or win the MAC tournament for the extra game(s).
-
I tried to run through the tie-breakers with the possible match-ups and outocmes but ran out of time. Doesn't look likely but perhaps still possible to pull out a regular season title. Perhaps we need the 4-way tie to get us there (UA, BUF, MIA, BG all at 11-5).EDIT: Nevermind, looks like Miami wins that tie-breaker. It is now officially a Zips basketball season as the "crap down their leg" reference has appeared!

My grandfather met my grandmother when he was in England for WWII. One night around dinner time he came to pick up my grandmother when he was drunk, and his future mother-in-law responded by literally beating him with a fish.

My parents come up for games a couple times each year (they live ~2 hours away). They stood in line for 15 minutes to get their tickets. That might be a good sign except there were only 5 people in front of them--just hard to find a seat available I guess. Anyway, when my mother went to buy a Sprite for my kids, they were out--at halftime. Could have bought a Mountain Dew for them, but thankfully, she opted for Gatorade instead.
-
Linhart through and including the Eastern Michigan Game (120 games):Points = 878Rebounds = 536Steals = 164Assists = 159Turnovers = 143Blocks = 44Floor Burns = 120+

also, i did not like the dance team's uniforms. i think they look trashy. So when a half-naked overweight guy slaps his bare butt, that's the best part of the game. But those dance uniforms--way too trashy. Nice double standard.

Who do you want for the Bracketbuster?
BirdZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
We saw Waters outside the MAC tournament last year. Zips Win! asked him when he was going to play Akron. He said "we're not ready for that yet" and went on to talk about his hope for a 4-team annual round robin (CSU, UA, Can't State and ?).Laugh all you want eguins--I guess ignorance is bliss. -

BirdZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I agree on the attendance--I was surprised at the 3000+ number when I got there. it took me 2 hours to get there when it normally takes me 1, yet still a decent crowd. That says to me the potential is there when the wins start again. This third loss in a row prompted me to look back at the last time Akron lost 3-in-a-row. Last time I could find was at the end of the 2003/2004 season--Marshall, Buffalo & Ball State. -
