  1. Your Saturday games in January just got moved to noon. I'm not sure what this will do for attendance in general, but I do know what it will do for me--I'll be late to both of them and won't enjoy BW3's beforehand.BG game got moved to 8:00 this Saturday as well, which killed our plans to drive out there for the day, but at least it's on ESPNU which I don't get.
  2. nbs95--Have you any objectivity or are you just a Sweich shill? We all want to see Sweich play, but do you really think KD is sabotaging his team's chance of winning on purpose? I want to see Sweich play too, but I'll trust KD to let me see it when Sweich's ready to contribute.
  3. Attendance was listed at 2,663. I was surprised to see that many for this game--not sure how to interpret it. However, if you closed your eyes, you would have guessed it was 263. Extremely quiet crowd from the get-go. If nothing else, shouldn't they get excited when the cheerleaders break out the massive quantity of 8 mini balls? Or they throw the T-Shirts (to the same people they throw them to every game)?Conyers was excellent, but I think he struggles with confidence unlike what someone mentioned before. He was 5-9 on shooting and 7-10 from the line but I still saw him hang his head each time he missed. Perhaps in the past he has let that stop him from shooting.Folks on this board asked Brett to start passing. He did it on Sunday! Great passes for three assists along with 2 steals and only 2 fouls. If he continues to pass like he did against St.F, his value skyrockets.
  4. Linhart through and including the St. Francis Game (109 games):Points = 779Rebounds = 469Steals = 145Assists = 145Turnovers = 124Blocks = 40
  5. Latest Mid-Major poll has only 2 MAC teams in the Top 45: Miami at 23 and Akron at 30. No-one else even got a vote. Can't has managed to fall completely off the list, most likely because
  6. I'm still trying to figure out why comparing Gary Waters to KD is offensive and a cut-down to KD but comparing KD to Huggins is just fine.Actually, I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong with either of them. Hypersensitivity runs a little too rampant here.
  7. Last year, three Zips joined the 1000-point club. I think we'd probably all agree that two future members of that club are seeing substantial minutes this year too: Humpty and Brett. But with all the comments/implications about Nate Linhart not being an offensive threat or contributor that I see on this board (we tend to concentrate on his defense), it caught me off guard when I realized that he may actually join that club this year!He finished last year with a total of 653 points, and he has 116 so far this year to put him at 769. That leaves 231 points remaining to get to 1000. He's scoring at an 11.6 ppg clip and Akron has at least 22 games left (hopefully 26+).If he averages 11 ppg here on out, he finishes the regular season with exactly 1000.Be honest, did anyone realize Nate was on pace to reach this? Can he keep up that pace? He's also coming up on 500 rebounds.
  8. Nothing to be concerned about on the 3-pt shots. In the first half, the Zips took only eight 3-pt shots vs. nineteen 2-pt shots. In the 2nd half--playing catch-up--the Zips took sixteen 3-pt shots and thirteen 2-pt shots. Of those 16, they made 7, and 2 were likely the last second sloppy bombs. Also, just because I occasionally like to stir it up...ASSIST to TURNOVER Ratios for the VCU Game:Humpty = 2:1 (4:2)D. Rob = 1:4
  9. Many of the "Major" schools, and likely many of the others, also "graduate" "student athletes" with useless degrees such as University Studies or other such ridiculousness. There was a decent series of articles in USA Today a few weeks ago discussing the issue, pointing out how many schools (e.g. USC) had a huge percentage of kids all in the same majors, being steered there by their counselors as the other majors, which may actually intrerest them, are "too hard" to keep your grades up and stay eligible. I think Akron had 100 players on their football team this year. How many will play pro ball? I dare say not too many. They ought to be pursuing a degree that can support them more than 4 years. If anyone cares to take the time, I'd be interested in a breakdown of Akron's majors.Kudos here belong to Notre Dame. I know many love to hate them, but they refuse to lower their academic standards, even though doing so would allow them to easily get back to the elite. And still, they field good and sometimes great teams.Of course it's hard to do--but they get paid lots of cash to do it. No excuses--do it or leave. We're not asking for a BCS bowl, but having a winning season might be kind of nice. Winning more than one home game might be kind of nice. Making an adjustment at halftime--any adjustment--might be kind of nice.
  10. Today's Headline:Niagara FallsBarrelled Over by Zips
  11. To make the Nation more Joey-friendly, why not use the same rule that changes K-e-n-t to "can't" to automatically change the foulest of words:f--- becomes flip sh-- becomes crap I would greatly limit it to only the worst ones, and have the program do the basic policing for you.

  13. Stat of the game:Attendance = 148.
  14. Some random thoughts:Free Throws attempted: Akron = 14, Pitt = 37 (Ouch)Akron outshot Pitt on a percentage basis for both field goals and free throws, but the lesser shots (brought about in a big way by being outrebounded 37:21) hurt. Seems like when we take shots, we have no-one under the boards.I thought they played really well after they got their jitters out. Any game until the MAC championship going to give as many jitters? Likely not, so nice to have the experience under their belts. We debuted our "I Believe That We Have Zeke" sign specifically for the Pitt fans. One nearby fan started bad-mouthing Zeke, but Zips Win! called him on it as sour grapes and I don't think we heard a word from him after that. The upper-tier "Overrated" chant was funny--except that we couldn't do it again after 3-2.Nik is solid.Humpty makes lazy passes--that can be corrected. We believe we have fast guards, and I agree, but they looked kind of slow against Pitt. These guys were an excellent team and Akron played with them after the slow start.nbs95 you're an idiot.

  17. It seemed like Sweich knew he wasn't going to play at all. Always at the end of the bench, not really listening in the huddle (always way outside), and seemingly talking to himself a lot. I sure wanted to see him play, and I would think you'd throw him out there at least for a minute or two.I didn't think many of the players had much energy, and a few of them seemed somewhat tired. This was just an exhibition, so perhaps their routines weren't gameday type.Very up tempo. I love Bardo--I think he's developing well and going to be key next year and the year after. However, it looks like he may have some adjusting to do with the extreme quickness of our new guards. I counted twice when the ball hit Bardo in the head--once on the back and once on the cheek. Hands up, big guy! On the plus side, he got a rebound and immediately put it back up, rather than taking a meaningless dribble and losing it. Yes!Someone above talked about the heavy tape on Chris McKnight's (Big Mac's) right arm. I believe that was just one of those shooting sleeves like what Kobe wears. I'm not sure what they really do other than make you look cool. I may get one and start wearing it at work...The zone defense we played for a good portion of the second half looked different than last year--much smipler. It looked like a normal zone rather than the very complicated (but much more effective) zone they played last year. Yesterday's zone couldn't keep up and did indeed yield a lot of threes. Most disappointing for me--Jimmy Conyers.
  18. Playing off of Dr Z, I'll say it puts the program into WARP DRIVEW insA ttendanceR eboundsP ointsD efensive DominationR espectI ntimidationV ictoryE levation (to a new conference)The defense comes first, almost immediately, with intimidation and wins coming along for the ride.
  19. Link took me to a different story. Try this one:Vulcan LinkThe team that was supposed to bring big-time professional sports to Akron in 1967 as a member of the Continental Football League lasted only four regular-season games.Four games and then done--definitely didn't "Live Long and Prosper"...
  20. Damn dude, tone down the arrogance a bit. Here's some advice from a former honors student--you're not as special as you might think you are. Keep your love of yourself behind closed curtains. Your comments are a disgrace to nerds everywhere.
  21. Last week my wife called Akron and they said they would not be selling Pitt tickets--that we'd have to get them through Pitt or Ticketmaster. My wife then called Pitt, and they said they wouldn't know how many tickets they had available for general sale until about a week before the game, and they do not sell through Ticketmaster. We chose to get our tickets through StubHub and ensure we don't lug our kids to Pittsburgh and be stuck without.
  22. ESPN story on foot injury to one of Pitt's guards:Levance FieldsPITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh's Levance Fields, one of the Big East's top guards, will miss the start of preseason practice Friday while he recovers from a second operation this year on his left foot.Fields was sidelined for seven weeks last season after breaking his foot. He returned to help lead Pitt to the third round of the NCAA tournament, only to reinjure the foot in August.Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said Thursday it is uncertain how long Fields will be out. Pitt, which is likely to be a preseason Top 10 team, begins play Nov. 14 against Fairleigh Dickinson--one week before getting pounded by Akron."I don't think we can make any predictions on that," Dixon said...I might have edited one part...
