  1. +1,999,999,999,000000000 *I'm just sayin* Should Akron drop some major coin and get some big name to come in and work with Zeke? Make him what he can be and you'll get it all back. This is our potential program changer--gotta do all you can to get the most out of him.
  2. Can't remember if it was Reghi or Mix that said it, but one of them said something along the lines of "I just think (McKnight) needs to be a little less unselfish and start taking more shots." I about fell off the couch. Brett struggled offensively once he got one shot away from 1,000 points. And as soon as he hit it he knew that put him over 1000. A little disturbing that he knows exactly where that line is, but maybe now that it's behind him his mind will be clear and he can just play. Nik played great but if he could develop some court vision when he drives, he'd be deadly. Several times as he was driving a teammate was wide open for a lay-up, but Nik can't or won't see them and pounds it off the bottom of the rim instead.
  3. Ball State may still take the 1. 8 spot could be the sleeper spot.
  4. Bardo nails what was likely his first career quintuple single (points, rebounds, blocks, assists and steals--all not zero). And no turnovers! And he made a free throw.
  5. Yes, that's it. The key to everything: Don't practice so hard, and don't work on your weaknesses. The key to good coaching: Let the players figure it out for themselves.
  6. As to what beer, it should obviously be some sort of Porter... Has any local bar come out with a "Caleb Porter"? Porter Patrol
  7. Actually, it always seems to me that the shooting percentage for both teams is correct but the total shots for the visitor is not. The total shots for the visitor always shows to be the same as for the Zips. With that being said, I believe I saw during the Ohio game (what else was there worth watching) that it had finally been fixed! Maybe the Zips did do at least one thing right on Wednesday!
  8. Hmm, actually seems to have worked out OK for Brady Hoke after all.
  9. I thought Groce did a good job of taking what Akron always does and exploiting it. We always use our bigs to try to cut off the guard dribbling out near the point on a pick. The bigs are seldom fast enough to cut them off but they often do keep the guard from penetrating by shuffling them along the 3-pt line. However, yesterday OU just rolled off that pick and got several uncontested layups when no-one helped out. OU knows we dribble and waste time out front, so they went to a 2-3 and allowed us to kill ourselves. They killed two birds with one stone by doing that. Not only did we not score, but by not passing and penetrating OU just watched our guards dancing around and got their rest! Good job by Groce in my opinion, and weak performance by the Zips. One last thing--we need a "MAC REFS SUCK" chant.
  10. I'm usually a defender of KD but why not go after the refs and get a technical? They certainly deserved it, and maybe it would have reminded his players that there was a game going on. And while I'm at it, why no hard fouls on Cooper? If he wants to drive in and kick it out, make him pay for those drives. And why does it take until halftime to realize that you beat a zone by passing and penetration, not by dribbling around outside the 3-pt line? Why not try Egner, etc., when your normal players clearly decided they didn't feel like playing? As for Kellogg, what I saw was a guy who can shoot the lights out if left wide open but gets really nervous really fast if someone is on him. I too left early--first time ever--with around 4 minutes left. I should have left after halftime. That team beat you in the Championship game last year, and you can't get up for that?
  11. I heard no special announcement. I also thought the halftime recognition was pretty short. Great response by the fans in attendance, but didn't seem to get any more time than what is typically given to a MAC championship recognition for cross-country or similar.
  12. This topic makes me wonder--why don't we see an occasional "Where Are They Now" update on the jumbotron during home games. There should be decent footage available from Nate's and Wood's pro play, for example, as well as others. Too much work to put it togetehr, or get the approval to use the footage? But even if you don't use lie footage, why not at elast throw up the info and stats? Of course, that might take time away from the video car race.
  13. I haven't followed BG, but looking at their schedule, other than a couple of exceptions they've played pretty much nobody but crap teams. In that 5-1 run, the only win over a team with a winning record was the Buffalo win. Granted, you can only beat who you schedule, but I'm just not reading too much into it yet.
  14. Me thinks that sooner or later he is going to pressure D.J. Cooper for the title of top PG in the conference. He still needs to get a little more comfortable shooting the rock, but the mechanics seem to be there for him to turn into a quality shooter. This kid is going to be special for the Zips, no doubt about it. Won't be long before we start hearing that classic "Rico Suave" blasting over the JAR speakers...
  15. Hard to grab a lot of rebounds when your opponent is shooting 60%+. If you assume defensive rebounds are easier to come by than offensive rebounds, ORU had 8 offensive rebounds so even if we held them to 0 our total would only have been 22. Another key statistic is that ORU turned the ball over 21 times to our 6. That's 15 less chances to get a defensive rebound.
  16. This year's schedule includes Dayton, Cleveland State, Temple, Minnesota and Miami (FL). Minnesota was ranked when we played them. Temple was ranked shortly before we played them. CSU is #1 mid-major right now. Your complaint is about a year too late.
  17. He came off the bench before the suspension, no reason to think he would be a starter now. I could see him moving him into the starting lineup in place of Nitro at some point. It will depend on his attitude and his physical condition when he comes back, but if Nitro continues to struggle like he did last night I could see it happening. He came off the bench against Milliken largely because he hadn't practiced with the team for the entire offseason. I don't think that is necessarily the role KD envisioned for him. If you recall, most on here were talking about him as the starter at SF before all the suspensions came anyways. While I agree that he is probably best served coming off the bench as an instant offense kind of guy, I can also see him getting a starting role before it is all said and done. Most on here may have been, but not the coach. I don't think Brett gives enough on Defense to get the start. He was key to our offense last year as well, but he didn't start.

  19. OK, I too took it upon myself to call Coach I. The conversation was quite enlightening. It turns out that Coach Ianello actually thought IAN was short for IANello, and he thought he was magically talking to a younger version of himself. As a result, he thought the conversation was taking place inside his head, so he wasn't worried about anyone overhearing him.
  20. I agree. I wonder if it has anything to do with tv contracts? It would be silly to sign a contract that wouldn't allow you to stream like that. If the Horizon league can do it, why can't the MAC? BTW, I read others coming down on the guy that announced it. He made some mistakes and wasn't Joe Tait by any stretch of the imagination, but I think he did a decent job for online streaming. The dude even took his headset off and used his mic to do a one on one with the coach when the first half expired. I give him an A for effort. First announcer I've heard that pronounced Cvetinovic correctly. Couldn't pronounce Euton though.
  21. Quickzips, how many shots do you expect from your shooting guard? I think if McNees is efficient enough with the ball 8 or so per night would be about ideal. You have to remember where Steve's shots are coming from. He takes a higher percentage of his shots from 3 than pretty much any player in Zips history. Not more than the Wizard of Wadsworth I bet Goddard scored 98% of his points from three point range. For the record, according to the stats on espn.com, Goddard took 105 shots during his career, 93 of which were three pointers. He scored a total of 134 points (108 from 3-pointers, 12 from the line, and 14 as 2-pointers). For his career he shot 38.7% from 3-pt land. I believe Steve's percentage is 451 of 602 being 3-pointers. McNees' 3-pt shooting percentage is at 35.9%.
  22. Let's not underestimate RI and TW. There may yet be a way...
  23. The University of Akron was one of 13 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools to earn an "A" on the Head Football Coaches 2009-10 Hiring Report Card (HRC),
  24. ZN.O--> <--Bardo Poor guy.
  25. I agree with you that the Zips will defeat U@B. Andy Alleman more or less guaranteed it! I sure hope Zach Campbell gets out of this funk though. He must have let CK's praise get to his head! I agree. My updated ratings have Alex Allen running away with Team Offensive MVP. I think the wear and tear on Campbell's leg is starting to show. He's punted more times this season than an Auburn punter will kick in an entire 4-year career. Plus, he's getting paid much less than an Auburn QB gets...
