Looks like the change is official. Per ESPN's website..."An NCAA panel on Friday adopted a recommendation to move the men's 3-point line to 20 feet, 9 inches for the 2008-09 college basketball season. The decision, by the playing rules oversight panel, marks the first major alteration to the 3-point shot since its adoption in 1986-87. The new 3-point line also must be a contrasting color to the current 19-9 3-point line, which women's college basketball is retaining. While coaches had been in favor of the change, others said it would not solve crowding near the basket unless the free-throw lane was expanded as well. The panel also said it adopted other changes proposed by the men's basketball rules committee. Those included eliminating the first lane space nearest the basket on each side and allowing officials to use courtside monitors to determine whether a flagrant foul has occurred, or which players may have played a role in an fight. The new men's rule is for all three college divisions. '"In recent years, the rules committee has conducted a great deal of research and held many discussions regarding the court markings," said panel chairman Rob Halvaks, senior associate commissioner of the Big West Conference. "The panel supports this action and hopes it has the committee's intended effect on the game.""I say, make the women's 3-point line pink to avoid any confusion. One thing that Andy Katz noted on ESPN was the possibility of a foot-wide strip where the front of the strip would mark the women's line and the back would mark the men's--I think that would look pretty dumb but would help eliminate confusion--except of course on courts where an international line is also desired. It doesn't go into effect until 2008-9 so any benefit Jeremiah Wood may get from it is a moot point.

I remember it as "Got Wood?" as in a play on the Got Milk? campaign.

I didn't see a whole lot you could do there (only so much can be done with 2 hours of daylight and highs in the 20's), but at a minimum your 3-year-old can play with my 3- and 5-year-olds. My wife and I decided this is the perfect use for our frequent flyer miles.Anyone know at what hotel the Zips will be staying?

Any discussion of Browns or Steelers or any other team is irrelevant. With what the Patriots did this offseason, they're not only the obvious Super Bowl favorites, they're the obvious Super Bowl winners. Phil Mickelson should place his bet now. With respect to the Edwards interview, I don't see what all the negative hub-bub is about. Braylon was quite complimentatry of Frye (I was surprised at how complimentary) and, while he did take a poke at the MAC, he was referring to MAC vs big-time conferences. I don't think it is crazy to say that a QB coming out of the MAC is going to have a bigger adjustment to make than one coming from the SEC or Big 10.For you Browns fans out there, I think the fact that he is complimentary of both QB's and not spouting off about something is a positive sign that maybe he's maturing???

Let's move on with this one already. You can't teach an old dog..... Actually, Discovery Channel's "Mythbusters" proved that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks...

I think you'd be surprised at how many people are turned off by bad grammar. Regardless of whether it's true or not, poor grammar hints at lack of intelligence--can I really trust what this guy is saying? Not saying it's true, but that's the thought that immediately introduces itself. And bad spelling can indeed make a post hard to understand. If nothing else, it's annoying. If you don't want people commenting on it, take a class and educate yourself. With respect to not saying anything bad about DH, I think everyone certainly agrees that you shouldn't personally attack someone here, but when a potentially key member of the team is AWOL with no explanation, people are going to be concerned, upset, etc. The longer the reason and likely outcome is kept secret, the worse that all gets. This board is here for opinions and discussion.

Given some of the recent court decisions, I wouldn't be surprised if BW3 was able to use eminent domain to expand its parking lot (which, by the way, would be nice).

The Village People's "YMCA" has to be good for some contributory activity from the flag corps and maybe even the cheerleaders. Shoot, that might even get the crowd up and participating.Other thoughts:Bobby McFerrin--Dont Worry, be HappyA-Ha--Take On Me (assuming someone can hit those high notes)Michael Sembello--Maniac

Great article on what the MAC needs to do.

That tournament to me is also a key to drumming up some interest by the local casual fan--and media. -
I liked that comment, but I thought it was followed with him saying "...but that's going to be hard." Not really sure what he meant by that.I liked the event. Someone had to say something about the shot and the snub--we wouldn't have had that event if that hadn't taken place. They acknowledged it and moved on.Here's hoping we don't need another one of these next year and are celebrating differently.

Looks to me like a tournament where we bring home the trophy. -
Letter To Coach Dambrot, Coaches & Team.
BirdZip replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
My kids are finally old enough to enjoy the games, so last year we started going to Zips games again. This year we made it to 14. The kids loved it, and I did too. We painted our faces (and, for the championship game, my 5-year old son's hair). We wore Z-I-P-S tee-shirts (and had to make sure we sat in the right order). I cheered myself into a sore throat several times (and I'm a pretty quiet guy). In the middle of church this past weekend, my 3-year-old daughter started a Romeo chant! We're hooked. We got a lot of joy this past year from the Zips, and we are four Zips fans who can't wait for next basketball season to start.Great job KD, and great job by all the players. Consider this signed.Go Zips! -
Integrity. And commitments you've made. After the contract, then you look.

On the schedule concept, there's been a lot of talk about wanting an even schedule if we play a major, but what about a 2-for-1 or even a 3-for-1 deal. We play twice or 3X at Pitt and they play us once at home over the next 4 years. Do the 3-for-1 with four teams, and it only sways your away vs home schedule by 2 games each year and it's 4 majors. Fill in the home games with mid-majors if you can.If that's not feasible, look at all the mid-majors that got at-large bids or that were bubble teams, etc., and schedule them. If you can't get the majors, get the top of the mid-majors. Schedule Old Dominion, Drexel, S. Ill., etc., or at least contact them and get as many as you can on 2-year or longer deals.I know it isn't as easy as just say-it and then do-it, but is the concept so horrible? Then you've faced really tough competition prior to the MAC starting, and you're ready to dominate the regular season MAC.

Niagara is in the Play-in game (I hate that term). I don't know that that win would have got us much. This whole thing just makes me sick.

I don't think everyone is crushed over just the Miami loss. That's basketball. Last second shots, human errors, they happen. It is crushing but it is sports, and that happens and that makes it easier to deal with (though still difficult). The outrage is over the selection committees, specifically the NIT. Everyone can come to grip about not making the NCAA--we saw that coming. But not making the NIT is a joke.

And if, from your work e-mail in your capacity as a bank representative, you responded in a similar manner, you should be fired.
-
I agree 100%. There is no reason for this guy to not get fired for responding to a fan this way. The original e-mail wasn't exactly roses, but regardless, a person ranking that high can't respond back like a fifth grader. As i was reading that, it was like someone got on his e-mail and was sending a prank response. He has to be fired over this! But i didnt make a personal attack on him. I simply stated what i was hearing from the TV stations and one different message boards about the MAC officials and the MAC conference itself. Yes i did call the commissioner a coward, but that is personal opinion... im aloud to have that. I agree completely. I'm not slamming you TB. The repsonse you got is a firable offense, regardless of what promted it. You could have sent him an e-mail slamming his mother, his kids, his anatomy, whatever--he still can't respond to you that way. hec an choose to ignore it, but when he send s taht e-mail, he's representeing the MAC. The MAC just called a passionate MAC fan ignorant, etc.He must be fired!

4:1 say they deserved a spot so far...Doesn't really matter though. You know, no matter how many times I go back and look at the NIT bracket, we're still not there...
