We should offer these kids.......
timmyboy replied to timmyboy's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
St Edwards -
We all talk about how akron does or does not offer local kids. We have a crop of very good players in the area who are gaining national attention but i havent heard anything about akron offering them. Below are a few.Deron Brown WR/DB Akron North. 6ft 3 190 lbs and ran a legit 4.31 while at a national exposure camp in cleveland. The kid has very good hands, very fast.already has offers from Iowa, Alabama,Kansas,Doran Grant RB/CB/KR/PR Akron ST V 5ft 11 175 lbs 4.33-4.37 while on the bus tour to numerous college camps.Very fast, Good Vision, Good leaping ability. Can play numerous positions.I had the pleasure of personally watching this kid grow from the age of 8 up until he left our youth football program. He was always winning national champ. in youth track an heard alot of buzz about him, but he stayed humbled. Did whatever was asked of him by the coaches and was a great team player. Whatever school he decides to go to is getting a great football player and a great kid. already has offers from Georgia,Georgia Tech,Illionis,Michigan State. On the verge of being offered by OSU,PSU,Mich.Otis Prunty DB/KR 5ft 11 170 lbs Like to hit. Good feet. Fast to come to the ball . Looks to have pretty good leaping ability.offered by Miami (OH), Ball State, BG, Central MichiganYou can find highlight films for all of the above mentioned players at scoutingohio.com

i noticed trey fairchilds name on this list................a kid that akron was pursuing. Wonder if he will try to make an attempt to come here or not. -
Akron extended an offer to 6'6 310 pound Tackle Eric Franklin out of Youngstown Mooney. I seen him play in a game against steubenville this year and he didnt really impress me. Maybe he had an offday, but i do remember the LB from steubenville (who signed with West Virginia) constantly beating this guy around the edge and getting to the QB or RB in the backfield. Hope that it was just a very bad off day. He also runs the 40 yard dash in the 5.4-5.7 range, which is pretty poor for an OL at the D1 level. Im here at work so i cant check out his highlight film till later, but it is below for anyone wanting to take a peak at it.http://www.scoutingohio.com/index.php/view...p;name=franklinanother local player who i think should be considered for a scholly is 6'3 190 pound WR/DB/KR.PR Deron Brown Out of Akron North. The kid blew away all others at a recent combine with his strength, size and speed. He had a 4.31 40 time which was his best and his worst time was a 4.42. Reminds me alot of a former standout who played for the zips, but is now with the Giants, Dom. Hixon.

I remember seeing the article last year after his arrest for drunk driving saying how he came to Can't, and he had a kid...... well i hope that his son does watch his daddy when he is playing, and doesnt follow in his footsteps because if so he will just be another inmate in the system. its beyond me how a player can get charged with felonies, and still be able to go to school and be a full scholly player!!!!!!!!!!!

LB C. Mixon, the transfer from Michigan was arrested last year for agg robbery after him and some friends forced their way into an apartment and robbed the occupant.

it says OL next to bice's name

This kid is AWESOME. It would be nice if Coach Ferri's Mooney Alum status carried some weight in recruiting him. I'm not getting my hopes up, but I can always dream.IMHO i seen both him and erik howard of North Canton play....i would take him over howard anyday. Howard is a powerback who has some speed. this guy is an all around athlete who can play in all phases of the game, offense, defense,Special teams.

Below is a list of more offers that we made to players, with one local being offered.Tyson Gulley RB/DB Akron Garfield (Seen him play a few times last year and he will be the next in a long line of great players out of akron garfield)http://scoutingohio.com/index.php/view-pro...40sbcglobal.netBraylon Heard RB/DB Cardinal Mooney (also seen him play, he wasent the full time starter, but still managed over 1,000 yards....very fast and shifty)http://scoutingohio.com/index.php/view-pro...ILL11%40AOL.COMalso, a few other players i mentioned before got offers from other schools andre givens got offers from illinois and BG, and his teammate Hubbard also got an offer from BG

Zeke Marshall and McKeesport lost their AAAA quarterfinal 45-43 to Mt. Lebanon on a last second shot Saturday. Marshall finished with 11 points.
-
Kurtis Drummond from Hubbard was given an offer from Big Ten member Michigan State. Talked to a friend who reports for Bucknuts.com and he said that Drummond was the most impressive WR that was at a recent combine up at MSU. if we could grab him it could be the steal of a recruiting class.

will nikki be playing in the game tomorrow. ive been so busy with work and other stuff that i havent heard if she was allowed to play yet.

Feel Free to leave comments on what defensive scheme you would like to see us run next year. Me personally would push for the 4-3 with Lemon,Sewell at DE and Bain and Henderson at DT, we have depth on the DL so we should move to a scheme that would allow us to rotate guys in and out to use the depth. I also think that our LB will be decent but we must get more pressure on the QB.

He has already said he wants to go to a larger school to get exposure, but with his grades.... that would be very hard unless he is able to get that situation in order.

The Zips have offered Mike Dorsey of Warren Harding. 6'2 205 athlete can play a number of positions. Played alot of RB and SS at harding. Below is his Highlight film.http://scoutingohio.com/index.php/view-pro...&name=mikedThe Zips also offered a pair of teammates from Hubbard Ohio.RB/CB Andre Givenshttp://scoutingohio.com/index.php/view-pro...me=Andre.GivensRB/CB Kurtis Drummonds 6'2 190http://scoutingohio.com/index.php/view-pro...Kurtis.Drummond

do we get a return game? Will syracuse be coming to akron to play in our new stadium. Then Trey Fairchild (kid whos dad came on the board saying how much he loved akron) will see why he shoulda picked Akron. He coulda been with a rising football program, but decided to go with the program that was doing down faster then a keg at a college party.

I asked about it last night. The explanation was that parents shell out a ton of money for their kids to go to Milford. In return, they all want their kids to get playing time. Thus no kid really gets a ton of reps, and none really have any eye-popping stats. He's at 325 now, and his natural playing weight is apparently 310. He's a pure Jerry Ball-type nose guard. You'll like his tape. He played fullback at 285lbs and looked good! He's also 100% healthy. From a pure entertainment standpoint, the clip showing him returning a punt (YES, returning a punt) while he was a HS junior in Harrisburg was pretty outrageous.where can i see that at ha ha?

im shocked. this girl has all the talent in the world..... if she can just get her head on straight.
-
i cant wait to see Bain and Henderson playing together in that new defenseive scheme we BETTER be going to.
-
Mel who..... he dont have sh** on our captain! Thanks capt. All of the info is great appreciated.

I believe charlie was a 2 star coming out of HS. im suprised that didnt go up since Iowa offered him a full ride a few days before NSD. You know since people seem to think that the MAC and Big Ten dont battle for recruits

breaking news: it is jarvis givens from florida. he had offers from other big east schools LOL nah just kidding, but im curious as to who it is. -
OSU gets another QB, looks like nicely is safe and they wont tryt o steal him away from us.Kenny Guiton and his father are supposed to visit Columbus on Saturday, but according to Guiton's high school coach, Ray Evans, Guiton has already given an oral commitment to Ohio State' 2009 recruiting class. How did the Buckeyes wind up with a quarterback they started checking out on Wednesday?Ray Evans, Guiton's high school coach at Eisenhower High in Houston, said Guiton was being recruited by several schools, including Rice, Kansas, and Iowa State. Evans said Guiton chose to wait on making a decision, and then some of his offers started to evaporate as those schools received pledges from other quarterbacks. By Christmas, Evans said Guiton's only remaining offer was from Kansas State, and he said that changed after a new offensive coordinator was brought in there. So by this weekend, Guiton was supposed to visit Wyoming. And Army and Air Force were interested, but Evans said Guiton didn't want to go to a military school. And then on Wednesday, Ohio State recruiting coordinator John Peterson arrived in Houston. On Tuesday, Ohio State found out five-star quarterback recruit Tajh Boyd had chosen Clemson over the Buckeyes. Tuesday night, two-star quarterback Austin Boucher was offered and by Wednesday afternoon, he had decided to turn down the Buckeyes. And then there was Guiton. Evans said Peterson procured a DVD of Guiton highlights and promised a quick decision."(Thursday) right after school, I spoke with Coach Peterson on the phone and he said it looked like a thumbs up with the quarterbacks coach," Evans said. "He said the only one he was waiting on was the head coach. And then they called back about an hour later and made the offer."Evans said Guiton accepted that offer on Thursday.More to come.
