  1. i dont know why not. i seen him play a few times and he was an outstanding back. also played some DB.Only so many scholarships and starting to get deep at RB?Then again, raw athletes never hurt a team. You could move him to DB, KR, PR, etc.Huge mistake not recruiting this kid if you ask me. The only reason he wasn't a BCS recruit is because he played at a small school not known as a football power. This one might come back to bite us in the behind. We're set at RB for a very long time. Alex Allen, Devoe Torrence (Offers from Cinci, Pitt, Purdue, Michigan, and Michigan State, not to mention an OSU offer that was pulled due to a legal thing, rated #6 RB in the country for 2008 by Rivals), and Dale Martin (Transfer from Louisville, offers from Michigan State, Nebraska, NC State, Wisconsin, California, Iowa, Illinois, Tennessee, and Florida, rated #19 RB by Rivals, #25 by Scout) mean we will be just fine at that position without having to recruit a guy that didn't get a single BCS offer.he was not only a RB, he was also a DB. and in my opinion i would take him over Randy G from Mentor Lake Cath. but nothing we can do about it now..... except ask how we let this one slip away

  3. i am on the site from my phone and when i hit the back button it sent me back to the main page and i didnt have time to go back in and search for it, so i decided just to start a thread.... didnt mean any harm by it, so you can calm down Can't State
  4. I just looked at the cam of the new stadium, and was curious if they were still working on it in this weather. and if this weather keeps up and we have more storms like this, will they still be able to finish it in time for the first game? looks like they still have ALOT to get done for it to be ready.
  5. Their No. 2 option behind Boyd, Austin Boucher from Kettering (Ohio) Alter, committed to Miami of Ohio over the weekend. He and twin brother Collin Boucher, a linebacker, announced they will both play for the RedHawks. On Sunday night Austin Boucher said he did not see himself re-thinking his choice and said he was not planning to make an official visit to Ohio State. this is the quote from the ohio state athletic site bucknuts.com
  6. I was comparing what he did this year and what he did for us when he was playing here.... and comparing them, he had a very good year ha ha. i would take a 2 star prospect who is willing to be coached and listens over some of these 3, 4 and 5 star players who have heads that are so big from the hype that they got while in high school, that their head wont fit into a helmet.
  7. here are a few stats i looked up.class of 2005 recruits had 5 3 star athletes in it.class of 2006 had 4 3 star athletes in it.class of 2007 had 7 3 star athletes in it.and the class of 2008 had 4 3 star athletes.Kevin Grant : 2 star athlete and he turned out to be a pretty good one for us.Jay Rohr: a 2 star athlete and was also a good LB for us.Mackey: again, 2 star and turned out to be one of the better defensive players we had in years, nobody had more heart.and finally, NY Giants stand out return man Dom. Hixon was only a 2 star prospect coming out of columbus. and from the looks of it, he is doing pretty good for himself.and now on to the 3 star athletes we had.class of 2005:Brandon Anderson: played in certain schemes before becoming a constant in our secondary and did a nice job.Zach Anderson: a decent guard for us and prob one of the most highly touted OL me have ever signed.Jose Cruz: Had alot of potential, dropped some easy passes and ultimately decided to leave us.Carlton Jackson: a great guy, and a great athlete. another one who had a world of talent, but just couldnt seem to get the job done here at akron. Had a very good season for morgan state. ( had one of the top plays of the year on espn)Marlon terry: Who is this, not sure that i ever seen him play for us..... class of 2006:David Harvey: played and had one very good season for us, and has not been on the field since then. world of talent, does us no good if he cant get his grades straight.Andre Boone: he looked as if he could be the best RB to put on a zips uniform when we seen him in the highlight films..... did he ever even get to start for us?Mark Jackson (OL): was ranked as the 5th best center in the country, but couldnt hack it in the classroom and ended up prepping and going to another school.class of 2007:Casey Estrada: Big,Strong. Has a chance to be a starter, but looks as if he will be a serviceable back up.Vince Hill: Never even made it to campus, and it may be a good thing....he could have been a cancer spot for our WR group.Da'Von Moore; Not to sure bout him, but his higlight film was very impressive.Matt Rodgers: could be the best kept secret we have. Has alot of talent and could be the best QB we have on our team.....if he is ever givent he chance.Almondo Sewell: Great defensive player for us. worth all of the hype he gets and more.Paul Simkovich: Was also highly touted out of HS. I believe he is a back up. Bryan Williams: Love seeing the local boy do nice things for the hometown team. was a very good payer for us, and probably the best return man that we have ever had come thru here.my point is... You dont have to have the top notch 3 star athlete to have a winning football team, you just have to have the right players to fit the type of system that you have or are trying to put into place. I hate the 3-3-5 defense and i believe that hurts us because we have guys playing out of position because of it. if their going to have the defense, then get the players who are used to playing in that system and quit trying to play a player out of position and make him somthing he isnt.
  8. Was just checking through rivals and noticed that nicely has moved up the the 26th best player in the whole state. Thats ahead of a number of players who had made commitments to large bcs schools. looks like he could be the pick up of the class for us.
  9. ah no worries, i'm sure he will commit a felony or two by football seasonyea, true.... but at Can't state that doesnt meana nything, just look at what mixon (football) and singletary did.... and their both still playing........ Can't doesnt care what you do as long as your on the playing surrface ha
  10. Konz granted fifth yearCan't State senior tight end Jameson Konz, a graduate of Lake High School, has been granted a fifth year of eligibility by the NCAA. Konz, who was expected to be a huge piece of the Can't State offense last season, missed the enitre season after injuring his ankle in the season opener against Boston College. "Obviously, we're very pleased that the NCAA granted Jameson another year of eligibility," Can't State head coach Doug Martin said in a press release. "We were counting on him to be a big part of our offense last year and it¹s great that he'll get a chance to show what he¹s capable of doing for us in 2009."
  11. according to an email that i received. patrck nicely of willoughby south has committed to the zips as of yesterday..... has anyone else heard this also? he had nothing but good things to say about the program and the university after his visit the other day.
  12. AHHHH got ya. but he didnt step onto the field for michigan. he was on a full ride though, so will that mess up his chances of playing right away at Can't since he never suited up for UM Why would you do that? maybe it is an inside joke that went over my head lol.To give them a better chance at beating Toledo, seeing as how his former team lost to Toledo.
  13. Dont forget to think about the soldiers who are no longer with us or are overseas fighting for us on this veterans day. Myself as a guy who is thinking about joining the military. Anytime i get the chance, i thank a soldier for what they have done for me and for this country.... i have lost a few friends overseas and my cousin is over there and will have been there for 18 months by the time he is aloud to come back home. Remember, they are over there doing a job that nobody else wants to do.
  14. Man did anyone see Former Zips standout Chase Blackburn tear up the eagles this past sunday night. On a big 4th and 1 play near the end of the game.... the eagles tried to give the ball to westbrook, but big chase said he aint having none of that.... and stuffed westbrook to get the ball back for the Giants...... he also had a few huge plays on special teams.
  15. ha ha thats funny.... someone should make up a flier for the game to hand out to people informing them ( if they dont already know) about this site. make sure that this is where people can go to get pretty reliable information regarding anything that has to do with the university.
  16. Lets just hope that we can get that placee packed...... these guys have busted butt all summer thru the grueling heat and hard works to be able to put themselve sin the position their in to win the MAC East......... the least we could do is show up, be loud and show them we appreciate the way that they are representing our city.
  17. If the zips do end up making it to the MACC i know last time they had a deal that you could get a ride on the bus, ticket and a small snack for 60$. do you think they will have somthing like that again? i know i would definately be down to go if they did that..... i would probably drive either way, but if i could save a little bit on gas ( i drive an SUV that gets 15 MPG) then id be for it......... more money i have to spend at the game lol.
  18. with the way he has played this year.... we can only hope that they grant him another year.
  19. i was at that great game in 05 against Can't state at the bowl when it was -600 degrees and i stayed the whole game..... so im thinking im pretty for sure going to be at this game. anyone rushing the field afterwards, if so just dont mess stuff up to bad if you decide to rip down some field goal posts ha ha
  20. Why would you do that? maybe it is an inside joke that went over my head lol.
  21. Can't state got another huge boost on defense when it was announced that former Youngstown Cardinal Mooney standout LB Taylor Hill said he will transfer to Can't State from the University of Michigan. I seen Hill play a few times during his Senior season at Mooney and as i said in previous posts about him..... this kid is very good. How does Can't State keep getting these high profile LB from the university of Michigan ( Mixon transfered from Uof M to Can't 2 seasons ago) -------------------------------------------- Below is the Article regarding Hill: -------------------------------------------------------------Big-time recruit joining football teamNovember 7th, 2008 by Jonas Fortune Anyone who is familiar with Youngstown Cardinal Mooney's dominant football team last year will know the name of Taylor Hill. Anyone who doesn't know of him, will soon enough.Recent reports have Hill, who originally committed to Oklahoma then went to Michigan instead, joining the Can't State Golden flushes next season. The 6'2" 205 pound linebacker never played a down for the Wolverines and no one is sure how his eligibility will work out for next season. He is a huge pickup. Mooney had a plethora of players attend major Division I colleges (Brandon Beachum and Mike Zordich joined Penn State, Dan McCarthy went to Notre Dame, John Simon is a Buckeye and Tim Marlowe went to Nebraska) from last year's team and Rivals ranked Hill as the best. This is a huge get for the flushes.
  22. and to add to that............ akron is not a very good team at home this year (1-3) and Buffalo isnt a very good team on the road (1-3) so we will just have to see who has the larger will to win.............in a game that they both know is a must win game if they want to win the MAC east.
  23. maybe the kid has been in some trouble off the field ( im not saying he has because i dont know) a few other recruiting sights that i looked at and seen his profile on say that he is HIGH on akron. not sure why exactly JD and CO. are dragging their feet on offering this one.
  24. Everyone needs to show up, bring yourself and tell everyone else to come also and be loud........ we need to send our team off on a good note in their last home game. Let the team know that we are behind then and appreciate what they are doing.......... none of the "experts" expected them to be worth anything this year and they are proving them wrong.
  25. I just read that both Alex Allen and Cowles Stewart are out for the season with injuries (allen - hip fracture and cowles - knee).the short period of time that we had Allen, he was a beast and was running as hard as he ever has. and Cowles looked like he was on the verge of having a very good year. How bad does everyone think losing these 2 players hurt us?
