GP1 is one of my favorite posters. He's a no nonsense guy. He tells things the way they are.

Remember the last offensive coordinator we hired?.....oh waitIt doesn't seem like there is a lot of interest out there for this job, and that is kind of surprising because all this new guy has to do is win this weak conference and/or get us to bowl games and he can go on his merry way. Is anybody else getting that vibe?

He won't come here after reading zipsnation :(BTW the post made me laugh though. Man I'm terrible.

NCAA College Cup Articles
zipsbandman replied to UAZipster0305's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Well.....Soccer plays at a high level. Football and basketball play MAC caliber ball. Imagine if the football team can get ranked or if the basketball team can advance in the NCAA tournament. Reading stuff like this makes me think what if.... -

Steve French's short list of candidates
zipsbandman replied to zipboy's topic in Akron Zips Football
I hope it's not Paul Winters. He had an 8-3 record last year which is good, but the rest of his tenure looks very mediocre. Plus what would his defense look like? I'm sure he'd be a decent coach for us, but can he take us to where we need to be? -
Can't State Fans are delusional
zipsbandman replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
If Akron is Walmart, then Can't must be the Odd corner. People go there to party. Give them a break. First off, they lost to the worst zips team in a decade. Second of all they're trying to keep up with the Jones. It's not always easy. Case and point. We build the INFO and they respond by building a canopy over their pressbox. -
Proenza has to be mortified by the empty seats in the INFO on gamedays. Where is this vibe that JD is going to stay? I don't see it happening. Also if you read the article closely, Big Tom refers to the win/loss record in evaluating his coaches, and I know for a fact we have a lot more losses than wins under JD. I respect the things JD has done here like bring us our first football MAC title and beating Can't on a consistent basis, but now it's time to up the ante. I would have pulled the plug last year.

I feel bad for Steve French. How much bad football has that guy had to sit through this season?

Three Positives Coming Out of Today
zipsbandman replied to UAZip0510's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I go on the football board and the sky is falling. I come here and the sky is falling. Chill fans or better yet drink some of that zips kool-aid that most of you get high on when things go our way. We lost a meaningless game. If you ask me, we absolutely needed to lose that game. They're human. I know I'd still be hung over from dancing the year before. We get very excited about that stuff playing in the MAC. In college, we know a thing or two about hangovers. But now they know and more importantly their coaches (who will pound it in their heads) know they can be beat and if they put the effort they put in yesterday they will be plastered. This team will be ready to play in March. These nonconference games....they're fun but don't take them so seriously. -
Yougnstown is an arm pit. Now go back to your igloo. This is a forum for 1-A football.

2009 NCAA Football Coaches Salaries
zipsbandman replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
I was referring to the Horizon conference and some of the atlantic ten schools that have no football. Their basketball programs are superior to MAC schools because that is their focus. I was trying to say that football isn't a money maker and requires funding to be successful and sometimes it can take away from other programs. -
2009 NCAA Football Coaches Salaries
zipsbandman replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
Wrong again padre. I'd say our basketball team, soccer team, and track teams are doing fine with one of the worst football teams in the country. Football is a huge financial drain for schools like Akron who don't draw like Big Ten teams, and it will be even more so once Akron drops big money on its next coach. That's why non-football playing basketball schools kick our butts in this conference because all the $$ brought in from student fees go to the basketball program. Akron's main revenue stream is the student fees and it is divided among sports. However, the reality of the animal is a ranked football team will increase our profile and build up our fan base in the long run way more than a soccer team with a national title. But you be right on one thing. We need to win in football.....bottom line. What impresses me about the soccer team though is that they are managing to keep the students and fan base interested in Akron athletics while our football team has been laying an egg. That's huge and with bball season started nobody will even remember football season . -
Paterno does this all the time. Dambrot says this every year at this time. I expect it more this year since his team is coming off a championship season.
-
OU is a joke as it is. They did not impress me. They have no passing game. MAC football is as bad as advertised and we are a big part of it unfortunately.

Hey we're still better than the sweaters Get out the paper bags!

After the drubbing against CMU and Indiana is 16k really that bad when a few thousand was pretty standard at the rubber bowl. I'm not proud of our attendance but at the same time I can't say I'm surprised.

Lowering ticket prices is not the answer. Nothing like diminishing the value of your product even further. No wonder we are on the same level as high school teams in this area. Lets break it down people. Nobody is excited about zips football right now and I cannot blame them. I'm no captain kangaroo or some of the other long time followers of zips athletics but I'd consider myself a pretty loyal fan. I was strongly considering not attending the Ohio game. Sure enough, the zips didn't let me down. Had it not been for the beautiful fall weather there was no way I was going to be there. The football we play is boring. We don't score. It's not IF we turn the ball over but it's when are we going to turn the ball over. We are one of the worst teams in the nation out of 119 1-A playing schools and people are supposed to drop what they are doing and come see this freak show because we have new bathrooms and concession stands? The solution is you open the check book and you hire a talented young winner with head coaching experience at the 1-AA level and you win some games. I don't care if we're a stepping stone. For once I want us to lose a coach because he was good and not because we have to fire him.

A week after getting pasted against OSU. Bottom ten here we come!

Textbook zips loss....textbook. But as I sat there in the stadium and looking at all the empty seats this occurred to me. I'm going to predict that the athletic department puts half a million on our next coach. They must make a statement hire after this season or else and I think they will. The good news is that our next guy will have his quarterback. Not to proclaim him as the savior, but Nicely looked the part and once he gets on the same page as his receivers I think we'll have a decent Qb. I was surprised with his mobility. As for the rest of the team, we can start over for all I care. The fumbles, the missed kicks, the bone headed penalties..... I was not at all impressed with Ohio. They are bad and definitely did not beat us. The zips beat the zips.

I'd say both the University and the city can benefit from the arena. And it gives students another reason to stick around in Akron on weekends if you can book concerts and other events at the facility. The project may be attainable if it's true that first energy steps up as a key sponsor. The question now is whether the city can really justify funding the project and also with the University trying to pay of the INFO how much cash can we really put down on this?

HA I walked right past it. I could have taken a shattered piece of plastic as a souvenir. It was all over the ground. Didn't think to get a picture but if you walk past the info it's right there.
