I don't know how anyone can question Dambrot.....period. He looked pretty animated on the court yesterday. In my opinion, KD was the man and is still the man. We've been to the championship game 6 years in a row, and these tournament games in Cleveland are as good as it gets in March. We are spoiled, and KD is overachieving at Akron. Our basketball facilities are terrible. The seating layout at games is terrible. Our fans are as fickle as can be. Scheduling is tough. Sure we could have done some things better last night but we played well enough to win, and it was just OU's night. When Cooper hit that off balance circus shot I knew it wasn't our night. Yes we lost, but I sure had a great time yesterday.

I am Joe Akron and will not pay to watch crap.....Terry Bowden has got me pumped though IMO

If Bowden and his band of merry men are as good as we believe, they will bring in plenty of Brian Wagners. We're going to bring in much better talent than we have seen these last two years. We'll be fine. We're not expected to do anything next season anyway so what good is it to him to stay through another rebuilding period?

They are part of the Western Athletic Conference. They are a major science and research University though which comes to show you do not have to be some small liberal arts school to be D-III. To the guy who posted the soccer link, I bet OSU fans really lose sleep over Akron beating them in SOCCER.

I agree. In fact, I remember Baldwin Wallace did not field a band for the longest time. We need to focus more on academics. We just blew a million dollars buying out a scrub coach so his successor can coach in front of an empty stadium. Something's gotta give. There is definitely a lot of little man's complex going on here.

There has been a lot of talk of the zips moving down to 1-AA, but I really have no interest in 1-AA ball. Given the play of football and basketball, maybe we are in over our heads in Division 1 athletics. It costs far too much money to compete at this level, and Akron really needs to focus on becoming Northeastern Ohio's premier research University. You cannot do that pouring millions into football and basketball. We have a quality athletic conference right here in our backyard, the Ohio Athletic Conference. Mount Union has really set the standard for the conference, and it might be the best interest of the University to be associated with it. I am really impressed by the game day atmospheres at these schools. They might not be "big time" but the students really get behind their teams, and it is much more feasible to compete for national championships. Lets be honest, nobody cares about soccer. Division III football is bigger than soccer, and I can see us running the table in the OAC conference with our facilities and advantage in budget. We'll have natural rivals and travel costs will be minimal. We need to join the OAC conference.

Then who's pursuing Matt Campbell? Five years ago he was in graduate school. Today, he's already worked his way up to an OC for a D1-A school. Does that answer your question? I think you all are forgetting that Paul Winters was a DI-A offensive coordinator and a pretty darn good one. He would be a solid hire.

Yeah sorry but Matt Campbell would be another project...he looks like a graduate assistant....not enough to get me back to the ticket window. At LEAST he is an offensive/defensive coordinator though. We really need to do our homework on this. What about Terry Bowden? Have we ruled him out yet? Wow zips football has been really disappointing. I thought with the upgrade of facilities and the commitment of our administration to build a program that this was one of the best jobs in the MAC.

Agreed.....if that is the issue bite the bullet and absorb the sanctions. Get him in here if at all possible. If the University is willing to do that, it might also entice Tressel to come here if he wants to get back into coaching. We are a couple of years away from being respectable anyway.

Question.....why in the world did we pass on Waddell as AD? I know for sure he would never have let this debacle happen with the football program.

How do you know he was at Tommy Evan's last night? Was this during the basketball game? That could just be another rumor for all we know. I'll give you that I walked past Tommy Evan's and saw a big crowd inside but I figured it was just Z-fund donors or something. Now I wish I would have taken a closer look.

I don't know that Fickell is the answer. What I saw at the end of the OSU/Michigan game was terrible management at the end of the game when OSU needed to score. This is the biggest hire ever coming up for the football program. They need to get it right at all costs. They need to look at all options.

After watching the end of the OSU/Michigan game, we need to pass on Luke Fickell if he ends up in the discussion. Clock management was terrible at the end of that game.

I would support the hiring of Paul Winters as head coach. Whether or not he would be interested is debatable after we snubbed him a few times. He has head coaching experience which is what we want in our head coach. He actually wore the pads at one point and can probably relate better to the players. He was a coordinator at the D1-A level and was a pretty good one at that. Our offense was prolific under the direction of Paul Winters. More important is that he is one of us and probably would take interest in elevating the program. I remember having doubts about hiring Keith Dambrot after the Hipsher years. And one more thing, his team is actually pretty good. Until we bring someone with competence on running a program, I will refuse to step foot at a game.

This thread needed to be bumped. Fun reading the posts when icoach was hired. It's sad when a bunch of internet posters could have made a better choice than a guy paid handsomely to do so. No more Notre Dame rejects......it drives me crazy reading how icoach will bring in 5th year rejects that will come save the day. We need to get rid of TW and icoach before they can do any more damage.

I gotta agree with Zach. TW's body of work is good and getting better. Every program is on the rise or about to be made-over to get it there. Good grief. Can anyone other than me look at the state of college athletics and realize TW has horribly missed at hiring a new football coach...the most important sport in college athletics. Am I the only one with a television? He just didn't swing and miss, he was standing in the batters box and swung at a pitch thrown into right field. Sorry but this is all on TW. He inherits a brand new stadium and a decent budget in the MAC, something which his predecessors did not have the benefit of. He hires a no-name position coach (not even a coordinator who called plays) at a school who perennially underachieves. Even Zack can recruit at Notre Dame. And he gets paid how much to do what he does? Body of work? Sorry, but college tennis is not what sells tickets. My entertainment dollars will be spent elsewhere.

True, you look at what basketball, soccer, and even track and field has accomplished and then your most visible team goes out there every week and just humiliates the University. ICoach takes a lot of heat, but TW is the guy who needs to be held accountable for this mess. This was his most important hire, and he obviously did not do his homework.

Zips are not playing to win this game. Play calling is so predictable. Ohio State has given them an opportunities but we are being so conservative. You rarely get the opportunity to play an Ohio State team that is rebuilding like this.
