  1. Odd...I was told Clayton Moore's passer rating is much better than what we had in 2010? How can we be scoring fewer points? We even have a better running game in 2011?We are not. Please consider the source. In 2010 we scored 121 points through 9 games and in 2011 we scored 138. The 2010 total included 13 OT points. Obviously GP1 was not a finance or math major. There is noting inaccurate about my facts. Are you saying mine are wrong?? I know you are not because mine are correct. You are just manipulating the facts to support your case. You are comparing averages of 12 games against 9 and we both know the 2 "pay" games are in the beginning and would skew the date in your comparison. Since you are wrong and we are on pace to score more...what does that mean to your analysis??The data is the data. If we continue on at our average points per game, we will not score more points than 2010. With only one home game remaining, I could see the Zips scoring less than 42 points in the last three games.
  2. If there is a 1% chance of the deal happening, how much time should TW put into it?

  4. I'm not sure why they need to be regulated. Because a bunch a crappy conferences like the MAC can't play at the same level as other conferences? That isn't the fault of espn, that is the fault of the crappy conferences. They were all crappy long before espn came along and will all be crappy long after espn is gone.Lack of competition would be a good reason, but with espn, nbc/vs and cbs, there seems to be plenty of competition. How would the federal government regulate individual state schools? State schools are a state matter and not a federal matter. Seems to be a lot of work for no reason.Do we really want the idiots who brought us the current state of our Federal government to start regulating college athletics?
  5. I respectfully disagree and it goes to this sentence. ESPN should not and cannot be regulated as they are a media outlet and they have First Amendment rights. All the do is broadcast games and it is up to the consumer to watch the games.
  6. When something like this happens, a person should not lose curiosity with the issue beyond telling his boss. It's not like he heard the guy was stealing pens from the supply cabinet.
  7. Altoona Newspaper ReportPaterno was looked by Grand Jury and nothing came of it. Still makes me wonder if he even followed up with the AD he told. Didn't he think it was strange a coach was caught having sex with a young boy in the team shower and the police never showed up to take away Sandusky? I'm looking forward to an FBI investigation into this matter. The state can't seem to get the job done.
  8. Isn't the question... Have there ever been any good guys in the ncaa?
  9. DeadspinThis is a truely awful story and this Deadspin article recaps the story. Very disturbing read. What a bunch of awful people still in charge at PSU. Paterno knew of crimes against children, didn't report them to the police...this may be a crime. Paterno needs to be investigated by the FBI since some of the crimes may have happened over state lines (also keeps the "locals" from looking past things) and possibly brought before a grand jury to explore criminal charges against him.
  10. Joe Pa should be fired. Telling an AD is not what should have been done. Joe Pa should have called 911 and had the police come to take Sandusky away in cuffs. As for the other AD officials, please see my note in this section on the sleaze that works in college athletics.
  11. What return were you expecting? It's an ongoing building process where results aren't necessary.
  12. Is it really about faith in players or faith in knowing a mac team is more likely to blow a game than win a game. CMU blew the game last night while Can't was in the process of handing it to them. Can't is terrible. Spencer Keith is terrible (46% completion for the year). However, Can't will look like Alabama against Akron. Spencer Keith will look like Andrew Luck against Akron.
  13. If the money is right, I'm sure he will be glad to walk away. Nobody is going to walk away from a $300K job.
  14. Last year, the Zips scored 187 points. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, 2011 rolls around. The Zips have 138 points this year for an average of 15.3 points per game, down from 15.5 from 2010. They have to average 16.3ppg to tie 2010.Why so bad? Football is now a game of QBs, WRs and coaches. We don't have much at all in those three categories. There is a reason we don't score points and we are terrible.
  15. All of us are tired of the losing, but a true Akron fan never gets tired of the "building process".
  16. I look at this excellent post and I think about the rest of the MAC and how it could be. We are terrible in every way, but there are teams out there like Toledo, NIU and OU who have packed stadiums for prime time games...on Tuesday for crying out loud. Those fans pay to see exciting football played by players who are playing at a high level for the MAC and with some of their players who could play at BCS level schools. Even when they have an off season, those fans know it will only be a season or two before they are good again. We can't do anything and God bless our players for trying, but they just don't have anything going for them...mostly. This program is in bad, bad, bad shape.
  17. I don't fault espn as much as the ncaa and its member institutions. There is plenty of opportunity to watch college football on TV beyond espn. For example, VS, NBC and CBS all carry football. The Big Ten Network, ACC Network, etc. also exist. Also, to say the ncaa is not regulated isn't exactly true either. They have a 450 page manual. I'm not opposed to the government requiring schools to pay for lingering health issues an athlete has as a result of playing sports for the rest of their lives. The government is also the court system (a branch of government)...I'd love the ncaa to lose one of these law suits against it so some financial justice can come upon college athletics as well. The government should not be involved in telling schools which conferences they can playing. For me, the question is, "Who is the biggest scumbag?". There really isn't just one. THEY are the Athletic Directors and university Presidents who are making a grab for as much money as possible. They build stadium after stadium, bring in scummy people to pay for them and then wonder why players are getting in trouble with the same people. Nobody likes to look at the sleaze in college athletics and actually call it for what it is, sleaze, because university presidents and ADs are supposed to above it all. They aren't...they are the problem.
  18. The gentleman from Green makes some good points here.
  19. Did anyone notice that at the bottom of the screen, one of the crawls said Akron (OH)?
  20. I don't blame you. My college football experience has been much better since moving from Akron. If Akron was good, it would be different, but that is rarely the case. There are times when I go to a Wake game and I don't care about the fact there are other games being played that day. I don't even think about them. The point is, Winston-Salem is about the same drive from Akron as Lexington. Let me know when you are coming.
  21. You said it, and it goes well beyond the QB position, to the entire team. I don't know how many times I texted my brother last night, "They can't do anything."This team is almost completely void of the athletic ability required to compete in the MAC, let alone D-1A. There is simply nothing there. I don't know much about Coach I personally, but this can't continue to go on. Change is going to be needed at the end of the season. If not, this is only going to get worse. There is nothing to this program other than a nice stadium.
  22. I was texting with my brother tonight who coached D-1A football. He said the same thing.
  23. On Tuesday, USA Today had a cover story on ESPN possibly being the cause of the conference shake ups. They also ran a story in the sports section about what the new Super Divisions might look like to maintain regional games. Having trouble finding the stories on the internet. Maybe someone could give a helping hand.
  24. I wonder if the invitation would read something like this if it was a fraternity party.Dear Athletic Director,You are invited to a party at the Big East house this coming Friday as we are trying to attract more losers to our fraternity. We have been voted "Most Unattractive" by all University publications five year running and hope to extend that streak with your attendance. Please be advised you must bring you own beer and food. However, a DJ will be playing all the classic hits from the 70s on his vintage Sony 8 track player. In addition, you are encouraged to bring a date (if you can get one) and one for our members as they can't get their own dates.Best wishes,Big East Comm.
  25. Momentum is one thing, but what also comes with momentum is confidence. The Zips had to be playing with both at the end of the game Saturday. Confidence is not broken with a break. We gave away a game on Saturday against the Chips. I wouldn't describe any game the Zips have lost this year as one where they gave it away. They are barely in every game and the scores are rarely close. To give away a game, you have to be in the game to give it away.
