  1. Keep it up CK and I'm going to have to pass along my "Worlds Most Glib Zips Fan" hat to you.
  2. LF will remain on staff at OSU when the next coach is hired. Jim Fleming will not be the coach. Paul Winters could be the coach. Lots of guys could be the coach and win, but TW can't be the guy to decide who does that.
  3. It's on the internet. It must be true!
  4. "Shaving!"
  5. I think it could cripple many schools. The monster is create and now the monster has to be fed. It's hard to kill a monster.
  6. This is what our society is becoming. Is it really worth the time for people to go watch a game designed to raise money for charity because they are so upset LeBron chose Miami over Cleveland? Breaks his ankle?....Pathetic. Boo a guy raising money for charity?.....Pathetic. Shame on anyone who goes to this game with this in mind.
  7. Link Some interesting reading. Those who think college sports should be eliminated are wrong, IMO. After this PSU horror show, I do think this country needs to take a close look at college athletics at most schools and really being to set some priorities. Maybe elimination is not the thing to do. Maybe deemphasizing is the way we need to go.
  8. IF the Zips look for a new coach, I would at least interview him. Winning at Akron isn't easy. LF at least coached at Akron and understands the difficulties. IMO, the understanding is a huge benefit for any coach coming to Akron. If the coach knows what he is facing, he can deal with it. I don't think Coach I had any idea coming here what he was getting himself into. Can't brought in a no name assistant with no head coaching experience and only a couple of years as coordinator at Oberlin of all places. He is 5-6 with one game to go. That is a miracle turnaround at Can't. LF and a lot of other guys could do the same thing at Akron. As a disclaimer, LF is personal friends with a brother of mine and gives him tickets to OSU games. He would do just fine at Akron. I read on a lot of blogs, after OSU loses...never after a win, he looks like a deer in headlights. Those are just comments by people who don't know what else to say so they all become like dogs barking. It's just noise. I'm not saying Akron should hire him just to hire him, but I would say he is good enough for the MAC and turning around a program like Akron. More than anything, I'm against defensive coaches being head coaches in the MAC. It could be LF or Joe Blow Coordinator.
  9. I'd like to go on record and say I'm against things like this. Seems to me there are better ways to do things and this type of Facebook activity doesn't help anything.
  10. WOW!!! This could be its own topic.
  11. Good points. My guess is they are going to have assistants leaving regardless. The young guys on staff can afford to have a third year of this on their resumes. The older guys know enough people they can get out of town with their contacts in coaching.
  12. So you were sort of like Ryan Bingham? No. I actually worked for the companies I did it for. It didn't happen much, but it happened.
  13. When TW came to town, he made a lot of really bad decisions early (see handling of Reno issue). At the time, I didn't feel comfortable with such a bad manager making a coaching decision (actually posted it on this board) and was concerned about him firing JD and hiring a new coach. Where are we today? The same place we were a couple of years ago only the conditions have gotten worse. Same bad manager, only we now have to live his mistake. If TW fires Coach I, we still have the same bad manager in a position to make another horrible mistake at a point when we need a good decision even more now than two years ago. TW isn't capable of making the decision and probably would fight his being taken out of the decision making process tooth and nail. It would create a horrible situation for the next coach. Before we make any coaching decisions, the first step has to be getting rid of the AD who made the conditions worse than a couple of years ago. If not, a worse problem can be created. Yes, it can always get worse. Dr. Proenza won't fire an AD and coach in the same year. However, if he does, he needs an absolute prick on the hiring committee who wouldn't be shy about asking difficult questions and questioning the conventional "wisdom" of college athletics babble. Secondly, anyone who sat on the last hiring panel shouldn't be back for this one as they are complicit in the current problem. There are people in the Athletic Department who know my number. I would make myself available. If anyone is shy about firing TW, I have experience in firing people (When I worked in corporate America, I was sent out sometimes to fire people who didn't even work for me) and I would be glad to put that experience to use.
  14. Some perspective.
  15. I'm not certain why we need a guy who has won national championships at any level. KD is a good coach and he basically came from the wilderness to coach the Zips and is doing better than just fine. We need a guy who can coach at Akron regardless of what he did at some other school.
  16. I'm not interested in another Will Muschamp. Give me a guy who can coach, not a guy who runs around on the sidelines jumping into his players. For whatever reason, "high energy coaches" have taken the place of good coaches these days. My guess is it is a product of television, but who knows.
  17. I agree, but for different reasons. Before I do that though, this ASSUMES the Zips are going to have a new coach next year. I'm not ready to believe that is going to happen, but it is fun discussion. A quick glance at the MAC shows it is a high scoring league at the top. We want to get to the top. Bringing in a defensive coach is not what the Zips need. Guys who coach defenese never take offense very seriously and their offenses and teams fall apart because of it. In many ways, they aren't very smart. The Zips aren't even going to hit their point total of 187 from last season. Sad is the only word to describe it/them. We would need a guy who could throw some points up on the board and get some interest in the program again. I'm not even going to make fun of the Zips at this point and I have a serious reason for not doing it. Making fun of the Zips right now is like making fun of a retarded person. There is nothing funny AT ALL about it. It's just mean spirited.
  18. They played on a summer tour together. They should be further along.
  19. Well said CK. Our basketball program reminds me of the VA Tech football program. We are always at the top of our conference, but don't do much to distinguish ourselves outside of the MAC. I know what I saw against MSU and I still believe we are an VERY talented team. However, the talent needs to start winning games.
  20. How would you measure an even game? It appears to me the only way to do that is measure fouls. I don't buy the theory, but this is the logic of the blame the refs crowd. If the only way to make a game evenly refed is to look at fouls, then the only way to have a fair game is to have an even number of fouls. This idea does not look at how one team might have outplayed another or one team doesn't perform the way it should. I happen to believe the Zips didn't perform up to their ability last night. The Zips lost, not the refs. It does a disservice to the Zips to blame anyone but them for the outcome last night. I think too much of this program to do that.
  21. Maybe the Zips shouldn't have fouled so much. I never understand the basketball fan who believes the refs should be looking at the scoreboard and keeping the number of fouls even. In football, when a team has a bunch of penalties, they lose a game and it is one of the major factors in losing and that team is to blame for it. A basketball game should be looked at in the same manner.
  22. After the first loss, I see the usual posts about the refs blowing the game for the Zips. I'm on the verge of throwing up and I'm putting my foot down. Scapegoating goes as far back as the Bible (See Leviticus 16) and it isn't an honored tradition. The WPedia link does a good job of explaining it, but not descriptive enough. When the Scapegoat is cast from the town, the towns people yell at the goat as it is carrying the sins of the people with it. What the people are doing is actually a load of crap and an immoral activity because they aren't taking responsibility for their sins. Scapegoating actually destroys our humanity and is a sin. It is an ugly activity. Those blaming the refs are committing a sin against the Zips. Scapegoating the Zips through the refs is demeaning to KD2.0, his coaching staff and all of the players. I won't participate in that activity. The blame for the loss last night falls squarely on the shoulders of the basketball team. There were 40 minutes of basketball and they could have done more to win the game. They didn't. Early in every game, the tone for how a game will be officiated is set. It is up to the teams to adjust to how the game is being called. It looks like the Zips didn't do that. Shame on them and if so, they deserved to lose. Now, let's go out and win a basketball game tonight!!!
  23. We may not play in that division, but we have played two teams from that division in the past two seasons and we are 1-1 against them. Now, are we D-1A or I-AA? I know what I think.
  24. This program is too good at everything to be losing games like this. I expect much more out of them....no, I demand much more out of them.
  25. Link Andrew Sullivan links to a couple of good articles about the problems with college athletics getting too big. A professional entertainment industry has been introduced into universities and the schools are not showing themselves very good keepers of this form of entertainment.
