There is a time and a place for yelling. Coaches who yell and scream all the time aren't very good coaches. Coach I comes from the background of a coach who yelled and screamed at ND and that didn't work out well. In the MAC, you can't lose seniors and expect to be good.

Hot damn, it almost makes me want to be a Chanticleer! When in Rome......

Interesting story. I've mentioned before that Hunter has his work cut out for him for very unique reasons. CCU is next to Myrtle Beach in Conway, SC. Just drove by there earlier this week and they have a new football stadium that looks great. Facilities aren't all that bad for that level of school. Hunter's problem centers around how to draw people to sporting events in an area where there are a ton of things to do. People move somewhere like Myrtle Beach because they care about things other than football and basketball. There are three types of people who live along the coast of South Carolina (Charleston especially, but it applies to most places): 1. Old money 2. New money 3. No money Old money and new money are typically not from there and could care less about going to a football game. The no money people can't afford to take a crap so they have no money to go to a game. I think the challenge becomes reminding the new money about how much they liked football when they lived in the north. Old money goes to USC and Clemson games so they think it is beneath them to go to CCU games. I do know this. Creating a family atmosphere is not the answer. Beach bums like nothing more than drinking and trying to bang their next door neighbor's wife who spends her days drinking bourbon behind shut blinds like a good southern woman does. Create a party atmosphere and they will turn out in droves. Hooters girls, oil wrestling, wet t-shirt contests and beer pong will get the Myrtle Beach locals out, not clowns and cotton candy.

If everyone steps back and looks at the practicality of the situation, this kid is completely stupid. Here is a kid who struggled to get into college in the first place. He gets in school and must be on track to graduate or he still wouldn't be on the team. He makes it through the worst part of when a new coach comes to town and then quits. Let's say Coach I hates him and he hates Coach I. If you are Lemon, why do you even give a crap what a guy who doesn't like you thinks about you? Even worse, what do you care about a guy who isn't even smart enough to send a text to the right person thinks about you? Odds are, he would have at worst not started next year, but played in every game while finishing his degree at the school he started. Tuition paid for fall and spring. If Lemon was really smart with the text, he would have taken his phone to the coaches office and behind closed doors said, "Coach I, you should have at least had the balls to say this to my face." Then he should have said, "See you in the fall" and went to class. Then, every time he saw Coach I from now until eternity, he could have said, "Having trouble texting?" I know some of you somehow think this was a brilliant move by the coach, but for his part in this whole matter it can at best be described somewhere between sneaky like a mean high school girl and stupid like a mean high school girl. I'm really worried about this guy. Maybe because I'm worried about our new AD and by extension worried about Coach I. Here is to trying your best to keep an open mind. -
Good question. An even better question is, can five MAC teams get to 6-6?

The golden calf ends up smashed to pieces in due time. There have been a couple of near untouchables on this board since I have been reading. Frye was one at one point, but his ongoing laughable NFL career brought that to an end. KD is/was another, but I think losing three of the last four MAC Championships at least has Moses returning to the wayward Israelites to ask a few questions.

Great question. My advice to anyone who considers himself to be a leader on this team would do the following. Show up early for every workout...leave late. Workout when the most guys are there. Work your ass off. Lead by example. Players respect a guy who is committed to winning and doing the right things. Help the younger players. Don't be a verbal loud mouth. Actions speak louder than words. -
At what point when teams drop below a certain number should we pretend these rankings don't exist. YSU = 256? I didn't even know there were that many D-1A teams out there.
-
How long will it take Dave in Green and a few others to get a sense of humor? Never.....If they ever come out with RPI rankings for football, God help us.
-
I wonder whether it was an "accident" or not. Even worse if it was.
-
Why am I the only one concerned that we have a coach who is too stupid to send a simple text?

I love the topic and voted for leaving when another chance presents itself. The history of Akron coaching is it is the "Graveyard of Coaches". The history of the MAC is a coach can win a championship relative quickly if he has the right people and things go his way. Buffalo did it and JD did it at UofA. Coach I, here is my advice. Listen closely because JD didn't take this advice and look what happened to him. Win something quickly and get the Hell out. If you don't win something within the first three years, get the Hell out because this is when the graveyard catches you. Your assistants will start to leave and you won't be able to hire good replacements. Your recruiting starts to fall apart. Leave before getting fired....you're not making that much money compared to the rest of the league so the income shouldn't be that hard to replace.

An interesting thing about Buckeye/Big Ten fans is they always tell you how many NFL players are from the Big Ten, but they never mention they rarely produce a big time difference maker. Most Big Ten players on NFL rosters are easily replaceable. One of the big names coming out of tOSU in the past ten years has been Bobby Carpenter. His NFL career can best be described as a joke. Although last year, he set an NFL record for jumping on piles after the play was over. You would have thought the guy was the greatest LB coming out of college in the past 50 years if you talked to Buckeye fans. For those of you who don't like tOSU, you had better get used to the ESPN hype machine pumping them next year. Their OOC schedule is a joke (no, Miami is a shell of a team they used to be and will get killed in Columbus). The Big Ten is a joke. tOSU will be in the National Championship game next season.

He should fit right in at tOSU then. He should get three days in the bank right now for when the inevitable DUI hits. It will save him the time of serving the three days once he gets there. Signed Chris Jaquemain.... The last time I checked, Chris Jacquemain never made the police blotter. OK, LOL Maybe I should have signed it with one of many other names that I could have used. Which Zip has made the police blotter in the last five years? Every year, a Buckeye graces the pages of newspapers around the country with his off the field exploits involving drinking and a car. It's really OK to admit you are OK with the off the field exploits as long as they win. I would feel that way if I like tOSU, why can't everyone else just admit it? I am not going to start calling out Zip players. Sorry. You certainly have me at a disadvantage. I could sit here and name many Akron players that have had their issues. i could also name many OSU players as well. The thing is I don't do that for my alma maters. Since you are only a fan of one school, you will do this. Ok then. Don't call them out by name. In the past five years, how many were in the police blotter? If you don't know, that's OK. If there weren't any, just say so.

There is a difference in "trying" to compete and the actual ability to compete week in and week out. The further I got away from the MAC, the more I realized how unrealistic it is to believe the league can compete every week at the highest level. There will always be cases when MAC schools beat BCS schools. I would argue that many of those BCS schools wouldn't make the top 40 of my list. The year we beat NC State, I think they finished the season with only 3 or 4 wins. I'd have to go back and look at my original post, but I don't think NC State was in the top 40. It's not about a super difficult schedule made up of the top teams.... that's the NFL! You're right. It isn't about that. It's about competition. The current state of college football does not allow teams within one division to realistically compete against one another. The separation has to be made to increase competition.

Inclusion into the top 40 would be voluntary. Nobody would be forced to join and anybody could leave whenever they wanted. Other could apply to take their spot. I guess one modification could be that if a team finishes last place in their division for "X" number of years straight, they get the boot.

It is for a lot of reasons the BCS teams want it as it is. Instead of a BCS team playing one other BCS level team and three cupcakes at the beginning of the year to fill their pockets, they would actually have to compete against top level competition every week. Look at the winners of the SEC, PAC10 and Big 12....does anyone really think they would want to play one another the first three games of the following season? Close to home, does tOSU want to play USC, Navy, Can't and OU? Or do they want to play Alabama, USC and Texas the first three games of the season. They want the cupcakes because it gives them three practice games played at home before conference games. Is it fun to go to bowl games? Yes, we almost never go so I almost forget how fun it is. The bowls could remain in place for the non-top 40 teams if it makes the fans feel good. From the looks of the stands in MAC bowl games, I don't think people are too excited about the games we go to anyhow. Nobody goes. Is it fun to play Big Ten teams every year? No, it is a complete waste of time serving only to pad the pockets of the schools and giving MAC schools 1-3 starts to seasons. If the NCAA is interested in competition in lieu of money, the Top 40 conference makes sense. Are upsets fun? Yes, too bad they are few and far between and getting worse.

you know what, now that LeFevour is no longer a MAC rival, I wish him the best of luck. How lucky to be able to play for the team you grew up watching. I expect him to compete for Cutler's starting position within a couple years, especially if Cutler has a year like he did last year. I don't understand why guys are making fun of him here. We should want conference members to make it to the NFL. It brings cred to the MAC. We need all the cred we can get the MAC. So do you root for #7 from Pittsburgh? 2x Rapist, 1x motorcycle stunt man, all-time douchebag no, but I don't dislike him because he is from the MAC. I dislike him because of his character. I dislike him too. I also know my Steelers need him to win. I'll take winning over losing...it makes the fall go faster. There is a writer for the Post-Gazette in Pittsburgh that wroted a good article this week about the long term disaster that would be getting rid of Ben. His name is Ron Cooke and he wrote the article on Friday (I think). What day did you readed it? Good catch. I just noticed it. Too much typing while drinking.....

Very responsible response by TW. There is no reason to build a bigger arena if only 3,500 are going to show up. A new arena is a want, not a need. True. But then fixing up the JAR becomes a need, not a want. I agree. There is no need for people who buy GA tickets to have to visit a doctor for back pain the day after going to a Zips game. Less potential crowd size, more comfortable seats is what I'm talking about. Make the game day experience one that at least doesn't result in physical pain.

Please go back in my posts and find my brilliant explaination for how they should divide up college football with the best teams of the past 40 years.
