  1. That would make us 6-6, my guess is no. I think they have to take the winner of the Mac championship game, but not the loser. They could take BG at 6-5. That would make the second year in a row we were passed over by a bowl for a team we beat. I really can't blame the bowls though, because the purpose of a bowl committee is to draw teams that bring big crowds to a city for a few days so the town can make some money. Does anyone really think Akron would take a big crowd to a game? It would be worse than the horrible crowd Miami took to the Indy Bowl last year. It is what it is....Until the Rubber Bowl is flattened so the people of Akron have a decent place to go watch a game and they draw big crowds, or we can win the conference championship, this will always be the case.
  2. Question....If NIU wins today, Akron wins tomorrow and Akron loses to NIU in the MACC, then do we go bowling? I have no idea how the contracts work with the bowls the MAC is associated, but my guess is there will be a way to get screwed.
  3. That Yenzer Gradkowski had a great game last night. I'm sure he has a hangover of kielbasa, sauerkraut, pirogues, Iron City n'at this morning.

    CFN Topic

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate myself on having the longest arms in the world. It is not through arrogance, but through cynicism, that makes me right all the time.........except for my 28 point win prediction for BG last night (I was only slightly off, the same way Pluto is slightly further from the sun than Mercury).
  5. There is no way that Yenzer beats Jacobs tonight. However, our Yenzer WILL beat K-ent on Turkey Day.
  6. http://www.collegefootballnews.com/mac/200...ictions/MAC.htm Here is a link some of you may be interested in reading from College Football News. The Akron portion is at the bottom of the screen. They said what I have been saying for two years. The reason the Zips win, or at least do well on offense, is because of Biggs.
  7. What time and what network is the game on tonight?
  8. Sadly, it will all be over after tonight. No way does Toledo defeat BG. Jacobs is a winner who will not lose this game. I used to think the guy stunk, but all he does is win games and put up huge numbers. Winners win.... BG will beat Toledo by more than 28 tonight.
  9. Zips Win!, What is wrong with your work e-mail? Everything coming back the past two weeks undeliverable.
  10. As much as I would love to take this chance to pile on Frye for his stumbling around performance yesterday, I am not going to. Interceptions weigh heavily on a passer rating and that interception yesterday was completely the fault of the receiver. We saw him do yesterday what he did at Akron. Make easy completions and dazzle the fans with one chicken with his head cut off play per game. If Charlie wants to survive in the NFL, he MUST throw the deep pass better. Completing high percentage passes, like the eight yard pass on third and ten, only goes so far in the league. He really did not play that bad though. An interesting thing though. If the Browns do not completely dominate a tired Miami defense, a fresh Jason Taylor rips Charlie's head off in the second half. If my Steelers had Frye, they could use the stumbling around performance to make a team name change after that dismal performance in Baltimore yesterday. Instead of Pittsburgh, they could reference the state like the Carolina Panters. They could change their name to the Keystone Cops State Steelers. The best Frye can hope for is to become the next Kelly Holcomb of the NFL. A guy who is somehow loved every city he goes to and the fans scream for him to play even though he has produced no real winning anywhere he goes. If he can accomplish this task, he to can have a thirty year career like Holcomb and make a lot of money while playing for half the teams in the league. If he does what he did yesterday, it will be a short lived career.
  11. This is exactly correct. Sure there has been some poor play calling at times, but for the most part, the players have done well. I have been doing some research comparing last season to this season. If we go 6-5, it will be interesting to read. I'll wait to post it to see if we win on Turkey Day or not.
  12. I love it! Why would a Steelers fan want the Browns to start their best QB? You assume I could give a crap about the Browns....I'm more worried about how the Steelers are going to win another game with that piece of crap Tommy M. starting. I can't believe that piece of garbage makes over a million $ per year. He should be arrested for fraud. Look at the guy for crying out loud, does anything about Tommy M. look like a football player.
  13. It would be nice if UAM or someone from Akron posted something either here or on GoZips.com and clear this up.
  14. Good post CK! Attendance...I surprised there were as many people at the game as showed up. Akron did not play on Tuesday to fill the stadium, they played on Tuesday to get on TV. I wil say this though, it is nice to have an entire section to yourself. As far as the weather, it was a beautiful night for a game. Frank Solich...This guy is in a hopeless situation at OU. If he lasts more than four years I will be shocked. Much better coach than Faust. Hell, three or four years ago the guy was in the national championship game. He was at least a qualified replacement for Osborne at Nebraska. I don't know a single person who would say Faust was a qualified replacement for the Notre Dame coach. Icing the kicker...Your guess is as good as mine. Man, that was a bad decision. We could have used that time out to get closer before the halftime kick we missed from 47 yards. First half play calling...As borring as the first half play calling was, I think it led to an extremely tired OU defense in the second half and we ran all over them running off tackle and up the middle. I'd like a little excitment too, but we have to look at the entire game. Getsy...I wish this kid did not make me half poop my pants in fear every time he passes. On the whole though, he played great last night. He has earned everyone getting off his ass for a week.
  15. I'm no huge Getsy defender, but I'd like to know at what point you wrote this post or even if you were watching the game at the time of the post. On Akron's first drive, it was all Getsy. Eight for nine passing. For the game, he went 22-32 (68.75%) for 270 yards. What else do you people want? Even if you factor out the first drive, he went 14-23 (60.97%) for the remainder of the game. This was a Charlie Fryelike game, only Getsy passed for more yards and the team won. We are in almost the exact same position we were last season. Going into the final game, we have a chance to win the MAC East and a winning season. How many people REALLY believed we would be in this position right now? If anyone wants to bitch about anything, you should be bitching about the overused screen passes that were called last night in the first half. I believe the inability of the team to move the ball was more of a function of play calling than player execution. In the second half, the offensive line took over and the play calling was better. Akron won last night for the same reason we won at OU last year, Akron had better players. Good players win games. I would be neglecting my duty if I did not mention what a great game Biggs had. You are right in that we may not win next season. Not because of Getsy, but because Biggs will not be with the team. The kid is the only winner this team has had in the past two season. Guys like him are too difficult to replace. This Thanksgiving will be the first Senior Day in a long time when I am actually going to be sad to see a player play his final game.
  16. I bet there is going to be a much better crowd than people expect. I know a bunch of old time Akron people who are going to the game just to see another Turkey Day Game.
  17. If anyone has access to college academic/athletic journals, this position will be public notice so we will be able to see the requirement. I don't know how to get in touch with them, but the recruiters should have the requirements for the position and since it is a public position, they would be required to provide that information to you. My guess is that it will say something like "Masters Degree preferred" or something along those lines. They could give MW the job on the basis that he gets a Masters. He could get into one of those Mickey Mouse MBA programs like Walsh and Malone Colleges offer where you pay your money, show up one night per week to listen to a local business person speak and at the end of 12 months you basically pay your way to an MBA. It would not take much time from working for the University. Some of the worst business people with MBAs running around NE Ohio have earned Masters in this low manner. They are just money makers for those schools. I, on the other hand, have a Masters Degree from the Harvard of NE Ohio........ The University of Akron.
  18. I don't know if Mike has a Masters or not, but it will make a difference in the interview process. Colleges like to have people in those positions with advanced degrees. As far as the size of his ass, I have not checked that out and I do not plan on doing so in the future. Not that there is anything wrong with checking out the size of his ass, I will just not do so. In all seriousness though, Mike has EARNED the position. He has worked side-by-side with the best AD the University has ever had and at this point, I do not see the need to bring an outsider in. It may not seem like it, but this is a critical time in U of A athletics. To hire an unproven could be a disaster. We KNOW what Mike can do, and he does a good job. We have no idea what another person will do.
  19. How about three quarters short? Two the second half of CMU and the first quarter of BSU.
  20. Kiki was a Prop 48, so if he graduates this spring, and he will, he is able to have one more year. The question then becomes, why would a guy who graduated with no shot of the NFL come back for one year? If I'm in his shoes, I use my degree and start my life.
  21. How about 201? I wish I still had the ABJ article from the day after or the following. His words were somewhere along the lines of...they didn't ask me what I though or first.....or something like that. That's close enough. Some of you are really good with Google, maybe you can find it. Just to put this topic to bed, on one of the biggest days in the University's football history, he did not back the school and acted like a spoiled brat. His exact words should have been, "I want to thank Coach Owens for what he did for me. Now that the change has been made, I look forward supporting the school 100% now and in the future." Short of that, he should have kept his mouth shut. Instead, we heard a bunch of . Never once have I EVER heard a player respond the way he did upon a coaches termination. It was completely "bush league all the way". Even worse, it was arrogant. Tie all this into an unimpressive winning percentage, and I hope you all understand where I am coming from. THE END* * The author of this post reserves the right to continue with this top in future discussions if the opportunity presents itself by others.
  22. Mostly true and fair. However, I also have a strong dislike for the type of player who believes an Athletic Director must get his blessing before making a coaching change.
  23. Great posts by ZipsWin! and CK. I bet ZipsWin!'s wife had to run the air conditioner all the way home to keep him from boiling over. CK asked the most important question of all. Can we replace Biggs next year? Unfortunately, the answer is...NO. I think many overlook how important this player has been to this program the past two seasons. Guys like Biggs don't come around very often. Without him, the team does not turn around the 2004 season. Without him, this team is looking at two wins this season (even though I can't really prove it). Biggs has been the combination of strength, heart, mental toughness and hard work this school has not seen since Mike Clark. Yes, I just said it, Biggs is the second best RB in school history. Too bad he only had two seasons here. What does this mean? Unless there is a complete let down around the MAC East next season, Getsy is probably not going to be enough to win the MAC East. Kennedy is not nearly the player he needs to be yet to be the difference maker Biggs is. I think Getsy is as good as he is going to ever get (average to below average with flushes of being good), but that does not mean he still can't win. Without a running game, this offense is screwed. I know it's a team game, but the QB has the ball in his hands every play and MUST make plays and is the one player to most impact winning and losing. I just used that word again...winning, which is a close relative to winner. Looking at the QB triangle, there are three separate and mutually exclusive groups consisting of winners, losers and those with a chance to be either a winner or a loser. The QB must be a winner. Since 1987 (the first year of D-1), in the winners corner is the only player to win anything...Butchie Washington (MAC East Co-Championship). In the losers corner is every other QB since 1987. In the waiting to find out corner is Luke Getsy. He has one more year to become a winner. I hope he does not allow the density created from the volume of losers and the concrete at the Rubber Bowl to suck him into the black hole of losers. Luke, get Han Solo to fix your hyperdrive and speed over to the winners corner before you become just another bad memory. As far as defense, one of the biggest tales told is that defense wins championships. Defense is just the mechanism to get the ball to the offense who must win games. It was fun posting this note. I'm on a conference call, and it gave me something else to do while my phone is on mute and I'm not paying attention.
  24. Probably right where we are now. The guy produced less than five wins per year and no MAC East Championships. If we win one more game, and we will against Can't, the production this season will beat the average from the previous four years. The book is closed on that guy, give it up.
