Arrived at about 3:30pm. We're about 10 miles outside of West Point. We tried to check out the stadium, but unless it is gameday, you apparently can't enter campus? Also, it seems like the close, primo lots are all reserved? We located a lot about 1 mile away. I guess the shuttle you to the stadium?Different environment than a traditional campus, that's for sure.Bought some Ommegang Abbey Ale and Blue Point Toasted Lager for the tailgate...but who knows what the tailgate will entail? Flying pretty blind on this roadie, that's for sure.BTW - Guy at the beer store recognized my Akron shirt and reeled off Vic Green, Jason Taylor, Hixson and Blackburn's names. Seems like the Zips are more well known in Eastern NY than I'd have expected?

Nice choice of beers Cap'n. Haven't tried Ommegang before, but wonder how it stacks up with Chimay. Hopefully that will be a part of your game report. Regarding the beer store employee, there aren't 20 people in Akron who aren't die hards who could have rattled off those names. He's either a college football hermit, or you just ran into some sort of Zippian apparition. GO ZIPS!SeeTeeZip

OK, that's truly amazing. Most people in Akron couldn't do that let alone eastern NY. Maybe he's knowledgeable about the Zips since we've played Army a few times now. Or maybe he has some other connection to the Zips program, but he probably would have mentioned that. Or maybe he's an NFL junkie, fantasy league player, NFL video game player etc. that knows all the stats on all the players but it would still be tough to reel off the players from one school like that. I'm impressed. Enjoy the trip.

Well maybe, I think it's great that there was someone who recognized former Zips in the NFL, but Jason Taylor is pretty well known regardless (as an NFL fan I could tell you Tony Romo palyed at Eastern Illinois, same for most of the big name palyers who went to less well known schools) and Green played for Jets for a long time and Hixon and Blackburn both for the Giants so in Eastern NY maybe not quite so amazing. If he could have come up with Andy Alleman and James Black, I would have been really impressed. :) Someday we'll get there - I look at the strides the program has made since I was there and I do beleive anything is possible. Most of the teams in the MAC are exactly what they have been for the last 40 years, only Buffalo and Akron have made big leaps recently.

There's a little fact that I read scanning through the game notes last week: There are 23 teams in college football that have had at least one player drafted in the first four rounds of the NFL draft over the last four years, Akron is the only non-"BCS" team to make that list. Methinks BWill might continue that list....

Excellent points MDZip. It's the NY connection that is the key here. Plus you get bonus points for your James Black reference. I know he was one of Dennison's 1000 yard TBs, but he will also be remembered as UA's "Mr. Universe" from that period as well :D

Since you mention it, he did stick with the NY teams plus Jets rival Fins...and he omitted Dwight Smith, Charlie Frye, Jake Schifino and Ed Kregenow :) If the Captain goes back for more beer he can refer him to this Wikipedia list:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akron_Zips_fo...ayed_in_the_NFLI hadn't realized Matt Cherry is still in the league but has never gotten in a game (not even as a cleanup KR?)
