ZachTheZip
Great game for the Zips. We were very effective offensively. Our defense concerns me however. I thought Jacq lead the offense exceptionally and the O-Line was on fire allowing Kennedy to rush for 150 some odd yards. DK had a great game. He was very patient. I think the Zips can build off this win and hopefully come out with their third win in a row next thursday!I do not recall reading anywhere about an Andre Jones injury. He certainly did not play today. Any one have info on AJ?Seems he was suspended for one game by Mack Rhoades for not attending class.Anyways, I don't think we can win next week unless the defense stops blowing leads. The D was like paper in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Regardless of how well the O-Line plays (and they have been awesome lately.....even the SNAPS were good last night!) Buffalo is too good and they will win next week unless our D plays better. The good news is the 4 man front, with Sewell joining Lively in the middle, was pretty good against the run. Now if the pass D can make a few tweaks to improve, maybe the Zips will finish strong.
ksu sucks
Anyways, I don't think we can win next week unless the defense stops blowing leads.I couldn't agree more. Can't we ever just blow out a team? First Can't, then BG, now Toledo. This whole team needs to learn how to finish a game without giving their fans a heart attack.I guess the only positive for the defense was that they came up big when we needed them to. Last night the game was a blow out. I can't believe any of you expected Toledo to come here, lay down and get beat by 50. Toledo is a not good right now, but they have traditionally played good and they showed some pride in themselves last night. They could have easily layed down but they didn't.Toledo only outplayed UofA for about a quarter between the middle of the second and the middle of the third. Other than that, UofA had the game in hand.I realize winning is strange to a lot of you as you are also Browns fans, but last night the Zips played great. They are not perfect. Jacq looked very good, DK ran great, the offensive line is blocking their asses off, the coaches made good adjustments to turn the tide late in the third quarter, they had a special teams score (twice), they had some really good kick returns, they were well prepared for the game, there were no high snaps, they had an interception and the defense produced some three and outs early that resulted in a quick lead.I was hoping to log onto this board this morning and see some celebrating. Instead, I see the same old sad sacking and general nothingness because most of you were just dying for this team to lay an egg this season so we could go through five more years of building. We should be celebrating. Snap out of it you guys. This is a good team with a chance to take what in reality would be a two game lead in the MAC East next week. Try to enjoy.I'll close by saying this to the team and coaches. Great job!
akronad
Just a little over 10,000 in attendance. Poor for a beautiful fall evening, but that is what you get when your league is making the schools take TV money over a Saturday game.Jaq looked good, except for the interception. JD let him know about it right away as he was coming off the field. If Jaq hadn't forced it in there, we would have scored atleast a fg and been up 24-3. Instead, we allow UT to score a TD and now we find ourselves up by only 11.We looked very crisp in the 1st quarter, but then we slid back to reality for quarters 2 & 3. I think UT ran out of gas in the 4th quarter.Looking forward to the final game at the Bowl next week. It just be a great contest.
zen
I sorta agree with GP1. Toledo isn't a HS JV team. You can't expect decent players with pride and experience to just lay down and let you run the tables on them for 60 minutes. They are obviously going to have some fight in them and make a few things happen. It wouldn't be a game if they didn't show up to play. You never let up (unless you are winning by 50+ in the fourth quarter) against a real opponent, but you have to remember that they're not going to let up against you.I dunno about you guys, but I'm in a great mood this morning. I almost didn't mind going to work. LOL Thanx 2 da Zipz
ksu sucks
I personally expected it to be a close game. The only thing that aggravated me was the fact that we showed we were capable of running all over this team in the first quarter. Then, in no time, we let them right back in the game. But don't get me wrong. Like I said, the D came up big when we needed them to, and the TEAM came up big when we needed them to. If we do beat Buffalo next week at the last game in the bowl, then we will most likely win the East. How exciting would it be to go into the new stadium next year with a MAC East title and possibly a MAC title!
Aaron
I loved the game - it was exciting, but instead of folding when Toledo reared their heads, the Zips fought back! I thought it was one of the best games we've seen from them all season against a decent team. Don't forget that Toledo went into the Big House and won, but we were able to defend the Rubber Bowl. Our offense is really clicking, and congrats to the special teams for the big difference yesterday. The 10 pt. swing they caused made all the difference. I'm VERY excited for next weeks game against Buffalo. I'm mobilizing everyone I know to come out to the bowl, and have people genuinely excited about it. If BG loses between now and Nov. 22nd, I'm planning on getting a carpool together to go to Athens and see the Zips clinch the MAC East that Saturday!Things are looking up for us right now, I want to keep on this high over the next week, and come out for our next 'playoff' win next Thursday. I'm certainly not going to 'doom and gloom' the team for a 1 turnover game where they NEVER trailed! Great job to Jacq, DK, and all of our first-time scorers last night. Buffalo only squeaked past Army 27-24. What that tells me is that their defense gives up a LOT of points, but their offense may be a little higher powered than ours. Amazing how we're in the same division yet have no other common opponents yet. Buffalo's played through the bottom of the MAC East so far, but has hung in there with the West teams they faced, but not pulled out a win. I hope our added big game experience as well as the ghosts of the rubber bowl push us over the top in this one. Great win guys, can't wait to see it again next week. johnnyzip84
I'll acknowledge that the 1st thing I should have written today, was "congratulations" to the team and the staff on winning a very key game in pretty nice fashion. You guys are correct about that. However, I still believe that the team will need to play BETTER to defeat Buffalo. I don't necessarily see that as "doom and gloom". And I believe the Zips CAN beat UB. But I think the D will have to play more CONSISTENT for this to happen. That's all.Go Zips!!!! Let's clinch the New York division of the Big Mac conference
Blue & Gold
This was a good-looking, dominant performance. It was the blowout I've been looking for all year. We were able to get Matt Rodgers some PT as well as the entire 2nd unit O-Line and 3rd string RB. (Good to see Gary Pride out there. I think he'll slide over to take Bruce's spot as a slot receiver after Bruce graduates. It would be very exciting to see what Pride could do "in space.") MDZip
While Toledo is far from the best team in the MAC, lets also remember that they did knock off Michigan, and even if Michigan is in a really down year, that still means something. Next weeks game really means something - who would have thought that at the beginning of the year? And after last nights game, I really believe we can win it! I watched Buffalo play Tuesday night. While they are a good team, they are not nearly at the same level as say a Ball State. I was expecting more out of Buffalo than what I saw. If the Zips play the way they did last night, they win next week.
